Here's some pics from another site I belong to. http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r17/jrhopkins_photos/IMG_0683.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r17/jrhopkins_photos/IMG_0684.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r17/jrhopkins_photos/IMG_0686.jpg http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r17/jrhopkins_photos/IMG_0689.jpg Truly incredible craftsmanship. When I ran across the pics I knew this had to be the "baby lobster" this thread was referencing. Can't imagine the time you have into this bait. Nice work.

diemai, I like the look of the felt pen bait. The face you drew looks like the fish is anticipating his future. Refreshing that it's not overly refined cosmetically that is. Build quality looks to be top notch. I like the hook color choice also. You must have a couple hundred baits hanging in your shop.

Here's one I've been messing around with. It's a combo deal, hard bait with a marabou backside. I've always liked the way a cowgirl tails pulse from the big blades. My idea was to simulate this in a hard bait. I turned the body on the lathe, drilled out the rear, did some shaping then I molded two intakes, one on each side where water gets rammed internally through the body and flows back to a cap that bounces and pushes the water against the grain and pulses the tail. After some testing it works pretty good but has room for improvement in the pulse action. Hope you like. Happy Holidays All.

I'm actually putting a heater in my garage at this moment. I have a 3 car garage and opted for a Reznor 75,0000 BTU natural gas low profile heater. The key really as Mark stated is the insulation and ventilation. Flash points from fumes can be ignited from many sources, just make sure you're vented properly, both the heater and the booth. I'm no expert but have a pipe fitter friend who helps me out with the gas lines. Some of the stories he tells confirms Darwin's theories are alive and well.

I've been using the syringe technique with the hole drilled in the cap. Label one of the syringes so you don't draw from the opposite bottle and start a chemical reaction. Works great.

Thanks Mark. I'd be honored if made one, I love the baits you build. The lure is thru-wired and made from red cedar and is 6.5" not including the tail. As far as weight goes, when I water tested it she balanced out and sat perfect in the water with no weight which normally doesn't happen to me. I put about a half ounce just behind the front hook, mostly just for added weight. The action is a medium wobble and runs 3.5 - 4 ft deep. Originally I planned to have a rubber tail on the back end which is why you see the ribs towards the tail. I wanted a integrated look instead of it looking like two different pieces. In the end I opted for the bucktail. If you need better pics let me know.

Nice work. Beautifully detailed paint jobs. I just went through your gallery. Once again I'm amazed at the talent here. Not sure how you guys that build smaller baits do it. I usually end up with more skin on my belt sander than wood. What types of wood do you use for your baits? Do you craft your own lips and do you glue them in after you paint? The baits you build are very clean.

Here's the booth I put together. Thought I'd share a few pics. of it. I based it off of Ed Walicki's booth which can be found at: Ed's Paint Booth I have the motor up in the attic suspended to reduce noise and vibration. The fan is belt driven and completely separate from the motor which is great for spraying enamels. The down tube is 10 inches and then I branched two 4 inch valved sections down to either side of the booth. I vented it right out the side of the house. I works great. I can hold a lit match 6-10 inches outside the box and the flame will be getting pulled sideways. I added 5 air connections which come in handy not only for painting but running others tools from that side of the garage. - bob

I started by splitting this bait in two and then slotting what basically looked like a "U" for the first front two joints and then pinned them together. The rear joint is held together by a slotted "T" and wire bent ("T" loop) to fit accordingly. It takes some time to get the joints correct but they are incredibly strong. Stronger than a standard .092 screw eye. I have used .092 screws then epoxied in, they too are extremely strong. From what I've read here on TU many builders use only screw eyes with no problems.
