When I joined this list a couple months ago, swim-baits were all everyone was talking about. I decided to take a run it. It was a tedious endeavor but rewarding. I fish Mille Lacs in Minnesota quite a bit and in the fall the toothy critters really move on the cisco. From lip-to-tail this one measures in at 10". Nice action, but the last section could have been spaced by maybe an 1/8" more. I still get action on it but would like a little more. Overall, good action and runs about 4" deep. I need to built a deeper runner for the late season. Paint is silver pearl with light hit of blue/purple along it's back.

I was having so much fun I made three. Actually I learned that when you everything set up it sure is easier to make a few rather than tear everything down and move onto finishing. Here's a trio of perch all weighted differently to hit particular depths. If you know "Yakebait's" work these should look familiar. All made from cedar and quite buoyant. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Here's a glider I put together. 7" inches long made from birch. I weighted this one to suspend and ever so slightly sink. Decent action. I recycled my wife's luffa into this bait under some silver foil tape. She looked somewhat puzzled when she caught me taking it out of the garbage. I'm doing what I can for the environment. Thanks

Not sure what inspired this body shape but it sure swims nice. The bait itself is 6.75" long Shallow runner, nice wobble. Just learning to airbrush so if some paint jobs look familiar I've been studying others work here. I'm in Minnesota and the sad thing is most of what I built this year won't hit the water until next year. The ice is already moving in.

I love the way this things runs in the water. I got lucky straight out of the gates when I weighted this critter. I boosted the body shape from one of Tigger's masterpieces. Weighs in at 8oz. and runs about 8-10 feet. Thru-wire construction and made from birch. I plan on crafting a few of these. Thanks for looking.

Hello All, I've just started building baits, this one is my second. A big thanks to all those here. Here's a 8" thru-wire crank I put together. Runs about 3.5-4 deep with a nice action. I used cedar on this one, it backs off the weed tops in a hurry with a nice little wobble. How do you load the smiles? I wanted to add a "worship smilie" but couldn't.

Thanks Hazmail & Diemai for the replies. I'll give the nail technique a go. If that doesn't work I'll stick with splitting the baits down the middle, it's clean and simple just a little more work. Hazmail, your tutorial on the thru-wire is what I have been using as a base to work from and more than likely will continue to do so. Diemai, I have to say I love your paint jobs. I can always tell your baits when I see them. I started building baits about 30 years ago as a kid, just me and my pocket knife and some Testers model airplane paint. Now, while I still feel like a kid, it's me and a boat load of tools, paint booth, drying wheels, compressor, airbrushes and the list goes on. I think I caught more fish on those crudely made baits than what I craft now. I haven't been building lures all that time, I'm really just getting back into it.

How are people drilling baits through with accuracy on larger baits? I've been splitting the baits I build then routing a slot for the wire. This works great but adds a few steps. I'm not looking to set a land speed record but if I didn't have to split the bait and then do a glue up I'd rather not. Most of what I build is in the range of 6" to 9" long. I build jigs and level/square everything up but inevitably the bit wonders off. On smaller baits It
