  1. Thought I post an image of a relatively cheap but effective way to store baits. I had a gift certificate from a local hardware store burning a hole in my pocket and decided to add another bait box to bring in the boat. It's basically a semi-soft-sided tool box with 2.5" rain gutter sleeves. Pretty simple. I have 45 baits in this box and the pockets on the outside are handy for tools. Works great for me. This idea is nothing new but thought it would be nice to see what others have come up with.

    5 - segment trout

Tim, You don't need to send out for paint to anybody. This looks nice.

    New smaller 2.5" prop bait.

Another good looking batch. The layering of the stripes/bars opaque over the solid black works well and the colors overall look nice. Well done.

    Shad from the tutorial

Nice work. I like them all and the paint looks great. The tutorial you mention, is this the John Hopkins video?

Predator or Prey? This one has attitude and the eyes of a shark. Nice addition to your arsenal.

    The Trio

Thanks for the words guys. Jacob, Vince, a.k.a. fatfingers has helped me out from the very beginning before I actually tried to build a bait and has been an a great influence not only in how to build a bait but also in the painting part of the world. Even being compared is a compliment I'll humbly take. Thanks. diema, The rapala I based these baits on, loosely I might add is the Shad Rap. I've simplified the head area and towards the tail mine run a little thicker. If you see the shad rap you'll notice the resemblance. Pete, I used a tape, specifically WitchCraft glow tape for the sides. I cut and stuck it down and then feathered in a glaze so the edges were seamless then shot a white top layer just over the glaze. The sides are the part that glow. Even without the glow I really like the texture and how it grabs the light. It was a lengthy process but I'm pleased with the results and it glows quite bright. My kids keep taking this bait and running into the dark with it. That will end as soon as I put the hooks on. One way or another they'll learn.

    The Trio

Here's a group of crank baits made from cedar. I modeled them after some Rapalas that I like only they were a little small. These are 7/8's wide x 6" long. The action is a wide wobble with the blue and white bait running about 4'-6' deep and the magenta running 6-8' deep. The white/iridescent bait glows in the dark and has a lot of texture to the sides. This one still needs a little paint touch-up and one more coat of etex. I just finished a batch of jumbo 8 inch baits waiting for paint in this same style that I'm hoping to have done for the opener. Thanks for looking.

As always they sure look nice. Good luck on your opener.

    7" minnow crank

I like this one a lot. Bet this thing runs really well. You've been busy.

    "Rolf's Wiggler" jointed

Nice. When testing this one, specifically the line tie positioning did the bait want to roll? Was this the sweet spot for positioning? What happened when the line tie was more towards the top, away from the nose? I had a bait that had a similar shape (your bait is much better) that I could not get to swim correctly and would roll. It now resides on the wall of shame in my garage.

    sinking wiggler

As always you have come up with a new shape, somewhat old school which draws me in every time. This one sure gets down the water column in a hurry, no messin' around. The paint job looks great, worth the effort.

    three sections bait

Well done on the hinges, not only do they work but they look great. Very clean. As far as the buoyancy issue goes I have a few that sit a little funny but this sometimes adds to the action and offers the fish something they aren't us to seeing. Could be a plus. The paint job works also. Nice bait.

    My first swimbait (with lip)

I hear you on the tedious connections. Can be a real pain in the backside. This bait turned out nice though. I like the look and the solid orange tail, works well.

    First Four Segment Bait

John, That bait swims really nice. Starts the swimming action with very little retrieval speed. Love the "s" movement, well done.

    Fatfingers Slopehead

Elegant in it's simplicity. Nice touch with the purple around the eyes.

    Half & Half Series II

John, looks good. I agree with Mark regarding the alternate tail. I think it would give the bait even more action. The gill paint is awesome.

    Smaller sized cranks

Agreed on the color comments but also the slight variation in shapes, I like them. Solid group of baits for sure.

    1 1/2" balsa cranks

Can't imagine how much skin I'd lose trying to craft a bait this small. Fine looking bunch a baits. Great detail also.

    Very Nice!

Looks great Pete. What did you use for hinges on this one and how are your hook hangers tied in? Just curious. Super clean work.

    Swimbait Video

A couple of you were asking for some video of my latest swimbaits so I uploaded a some footage to youtube. I have both baits in one video, the first is a 6.5" red cedar hi-rider and the second is the reverse joint 6.5" red oak swimbait. The red oak bait having more weight takes a little more to get swimming but once the action is started it glides right along. The black red cedar starts to swim immediately and is very fluid. Should interesting to see what produces this year. Hopefully one will get scratched up...by toothy critters not just hook rash. Hope you like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGmu1hQ85E4
