    7" Cedar Crank

I put a couple of these together a few weeks ago. Here's the last one that was searching for a paint job. I chose a color scheme that resembles nothing I currently have in my arsenal. This bait is seven inches not including the lip. Red Cedar, 3.5 oz., thru-wire Fast action, runs about 4-6 feet deep.

    8" Perch Crank

The ski's like darker baits on this particular body of water I fish so I painted this one up darker than I normally would have painted it. What really happened is that I caught a couple on darker baits so now I think I know what's going on. I'll keep humoring myself.

    10" Shad Jointed Crank

Made from poplar, unweighted. Simple, clean paint job. I think this one is going to produce.

    8" Slim Green Crank

8" cedar crank, shallow runner, great for ripping over cabbage. This paint job is a nuclear green, really glows in the water.

    Solid resin JB's

Love them all. Your work is always clean with fresh looking combos.

    Solid resin JB's

I've always liked this paint combo. Ever since I was a kid throwing the basserino (sp?) with the red/white paint I was hooked. Sounds like you get some nice swimming action with these. The line tie up top probably aids in that wobble. Well done, love the clean shape.
  11. Like the chunky look. Healthy. That smokey paint technique on the sides is killer.

    2nd Batch of Muskie Lures

Been their. Only my bait required some heavy sanding, luckily it was the third coat of etex and not the first. I now use springs on the line-tie and rear hook hanger and rubber bands with paper clips to stabilize. Live and learn. Your baits look nice. Not over worked. Clean paint jobs.

    First Muskie Lures

Nice Job. I like the shape of these two and the color combo's work well. The fish will have the final say but they caught me.

    Walk-The-Dog

Basschamp, thanks for the comments. Sure I'd love to sell a few but lately my time is so limited right now I can barely keep my own life in order. The poplar has worked out great and is nice for some of the crank baits I build also but on this weagle bait I had to play around with a few different pieces of stock. I turned a couple and wasn't pleased with the action and amount of water I was moving. They still worked but there are differences. I've never messed around with maple. When things slow down maybe I'll check it out, not sure of maples buoyancy. Experimenting is always worth it, at least on bait building.

    Walk-The-Dog

diemai, thanks for the replies and always the help you give. This bait I actually wanted to hang lower on the surface. It isn't submerged, but does hang lower and by doing so when you're walking it in it moves a lot water and makes more noise, more than a bait that rides high on the surface.

    Walk-The-Dog

I meant to say, it rides low for a top water bait. Sorry for the lousy write-up. I just proofed my description and it made no sense, it's late, 2:30 am. Not sure how to edit my initial post. Thanks

    Stubby

This is a new shape for me. It's a 4 inch crank bait made from poplar. It was extremely finicky to get it to run properly. I spent a lot of time messing with both the lip shape/size and line tie position. The action is a tight wobble. I put a couple more together after I figured this one out. I'm trying to get some different paint jobs rolling also. Lately I seem to be in a rut with what I know works on the fish, but that gets old in the paint booth and it's nice to have something new that the ski's may not have seen before. What looks good to us doesn't always look good to the fish. At least that's what I keep telling myself when I kick out a mediocre paint job. Got to keep it fresh. Hope you like.

    Topwater

Here's a small 4 inch cedar fire tiger noise maker. I put it together for a friend. After I finished and ran it in the tub for the final check I really had second thoughts about handing it over to him. I may have to build another one. This is the smallest one I've built and I like the size. The first one I built for him was out of poplar and it ran fine until I put 3 coats of etex on and it slowly sank to the bottom. Disappointed I ventured back to the garage and found some cedar and started over and this is the result.

Here's a 9 inch unweighted poplar Bumble Bee. It's really hit or miss with the wood going unweighted. You have to get just the right stock for the perfect action. It rides hangs up on top but slightly lower than normal, if there is such a thing. I also added some rattles to this one. It's been awhile since I fired up the lathe. Sure makes sanding easy. We're getting close to the season opener here in Minnesota, can't wait to throw this one. Hope you all like.

    New Topwater Splash/Popper

I like it. Love the color on the sides. Personally I'd go with your option of the white tail with a little red mixed in.

    First swimmer

Nice and clean work, especially for how small this bait is, tough to do. Find some open water and take it for a test run.

    few prop baits for me.

You've been busy. They look nice. Little jewels. Where do they ride in the water column? High/top water?
