    Fish tails

I need to come up with something to make fish tails for my home made slammer type baits. I want my tails to be a bit different than the slammer ones so I'm looking for my own mold. Does anyone know of an existing, purchase-able mold of a fish tail? Would it be possible for me to make my own? (My buddy is all set up for pouring so I can use his pouring room but would need my own mold) Thanks
  3. We run a trip every yr on BassResource also. I can give a bit of input about locations from our experiences for you guys. Lake Fork- -Central for everyone, whether you are coming from Cali or New England -VERY AFFORDABLE -16'/40hp Aluminum rentals -Covered boat docks w/ electricity!!! -1.5 hrs from DFW airport (Not bad) - Specoal note- Fishermans cove Marina was VERY accomodating for us. We had assigned meals. Guys offered to cook their specialty meal, you could volunteer for a night. We had meatballs from Brooklyn one night, Chili and Hoagies from Tenn another night , Jumbalaya from N'Orlean's another. Dan and Linda from the cove, not only let us use the kitchen and grills (It's also the main hot spot on the lake,....the only bar!!) but they gave us the whole top floor for dining. awesome folks. Guntersville- -"Nicer" yet more expensive accomodations but you can always camp in the park too so it can get as "Low Budget" as you need -Not as accomodating as Fork, meaning, more of a cusiness feel where Fork was a family feel. -NO BOAT RENTALS!!! Team up boys, pain in the ass -Definitely a more expensive trip. Almost double and that's w/o a boat rental -1.5 hrs from airport (not bad) Kentucky Lake- -This is where we are going this yr so not much to report yet although it seems to be coming together nicely -Lots of places to stay and eat -City nearby in case anyone wants to bring family and will need other stuff to do. -close to airport -Boat rentals -Affordable accomodations

    Thanks Whittler

    Which bit?

What type of bit is used to make holes for the eyes on a slammer?
  6. Not if Dad/Grandpa says "Ain't NOONE using it till it's BLUE"
  7. JSC, regarding being too lazy, we just did my buddys 1236 which has the factory mossy green paint. We used a chemical stripper and the boat was shiny metal in 2 hrs. Messy to work with, but what a time saver!! My boat had glue, thicker paint, decals etc . That's why I sanded the whole thing instead of using a liquid stripper but for yours it would work fine.

  9. small side note for vodkaman. If your poly resin is curing too brittle, try using a little less hardener.
  10. You won't notice a weight increase with a gas motor but mine is elec only and it made a HUGE difference. Keep in mind, mine is on the "outside". We have to drag the boat over some rip rap to launch, this was why I went with this. It did not hold up. We ended up building a roller system to launch, much better. A big factor about having carpeted decks inside as opposed to liner is .................... A.NOISE!!!! - Although as lined bottom is quieter than a non-lined bottom, neither compare to a carpeted deck. B.With the decks, water from anchor, swimming, etc, all runs UNDER the decks as they sit on the ribs of the boat. This keeps everything on the floor nice and dry. C. Carpet is just plain nicer to walk on, especially for the kids. Even if you applied liner to prevent leaks, I would still make some carpeted decks. It costs about $30 to do a 12' boat. BEYOND worth it. I used 3/8 cdx to keep it lighter and to allow it to countour a bit to the hull. Urethaned and carpeted, they are the nicest part of this rebuild and will be in every boat I do from here on out. Hint- If you are sold on lining the bottom inside, be aware that the liners now come in colors. A tan or soft color is your best bet. DO NOT USE BLACK!! The inside of the vessel gets extremely hot, both to the touch and in general. Another liner tip- Prep work is key. The liner everywhere other than on the V channels,...is bulletproof,....Greeeeat,lol....it ain't coming off anytime soon, ugh. Also, did y'all know............. If you have an old, beat up looking trailer, even galvanized,...the liner will cover it. It makes for a nice non-skid surface for walking on the trailer also. Gas emitting metals can be covered with this stuff, pretty cool. ("Herculiner" in particular, not sure of other brands. This is the brand they use at my brothers shop)
  11. Actually no, the one thing that was a flop was the rhino lining on the bottom. Created a ton of drag (its an elec only boat), added weight, and eventually did not hold up where it was needed most, along the bottom "V" channels. Junk, scrap that idea. Some folks use it as a sealer on the inside, another bad move, eliminate your leaks, don't compensate for them. Just my .02
  12. Figured I'd post this for anyone looking for jon ideas Bass Fishing Forums - 1964, 12' Jon Boat restoration
  13. I am basically resting "shapes" and many of them hit the water w/o paint. For this application, it seems to be a decent, low cost fit. Thanks for the replies guys! and.........HI WHITTLER!!!! Long time no see bud, hope all is well.
  14. Anyone use something like this to seal woods? I did a search, found nothing. Pros/cons please
  15. This was the 2nd video from '08. My first swimbait fish. Funny, first 2 fish on swimbaits each cost me a rod. First one, a Tech AV, tried to swing a 6 in the boat,....snap. Second one, casting a slammer in the dark, was wrapped on tip. Snap. 2nd swimbait fish was caught with 5 ft section of broken rod #2, .....hence the name,..."Ghetto" lol. Enjoy Ghetto Bassin'
  16. This is the latest, pretty cool. Ghetto Bassin
  17. 1. That was my very last one and it got donated to a fish THAT DAY!! 2. Not a video camera, it's a fujifilm s5600 digital camera set on the "video" setting. Not bad huh? It is one of the very few digi cams that records it's video at 640x480. Most use 320x320. Canon now has one that records at 640x480 also but costs a bit more for the same functions. I also have video of the Jr's pouring your plastics if you ever need it. Your sign is in the background I believe.
  18. I think you'll like THIS and THIS and THIS Better? lol Who does "mouth of War"?
  19. Link fixed Mid Season 07 video Would this be Del from Del-mart? I believe we have worked together via the RI Jr Bassmasters,....they poured the plastics you donated for breast cancer awareness. I helped Mike control the arts & crafts day, lol. Small world
  20. Thanks, here's another...Mid Season 07
  21. Ok, time for an introduction My name is Russ Thetonia and I am a new generation bait builder. I am the Eastern Events Director for the C.A.S.T. For Kids Foundation, a staff member on BassResource and a UPS driver in East Greenwich, RI My Bio- http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1215736770- scroll to "Low Budget Hookers" I build lots of videos. They are linked in my signature I also have a thread in "Hard baits" where you can learn what I am up to as far as bait building goes. Thanks Looking forward to getting to know many of you better. This site is a tremendous resource and has a very nice family feel to it. Kudos to the staff. Catch 'em up!
  22. Ok, many of you don't know me too well yet, but I make videos. Lots and lots of videos. I'll link you to one that doesn't have any ads for my sirte in it so we don't upset admin. (at end of post) But for now, a brief intro. I have been making these baits for about a month and a 1/2 now. I'm up to about 25 proto types, different shapes, hardware mountings, etc. I was missing one piece of the puzzle. Example. Last week I went out w/ 4 new baits. 2 worked, 1 was "so-so" and 1 was junk. So I thought. A friend on another forum started discussing line tie placement. I started playing. Long story short, 4 same baits each caught a 2.75-3.25 lb fish, all within 1.5 hrs. That's 4, 3 lb fish in 1.5 hrs, each on a different bait. With this new knowledge, I have now been able to see what the different body shapes actually do. I have some SICK baits!!! lol. I have them broken down into 4 categires of wake baits. Chop slow, chop fast, glass slow and glass fast. Below is a small testament. A big thanks to all who helped with tips and great info YouTube - figuring it out still One of my real videos http://hawgz2.com/video/lbh/fall07.wmv
  23. Just my 2 cents on this. Mike originally made these so he could teach the kids in his proram to pour. Mike has a full time job already, he's not making these to be a business, just doing the legwork for guys ho may not have the time/talent or tools. His kids have poured worms for our CAST For Kids Program in RI and also to promote breast cancer awareness in Massachussetts. I'm just saying, if "character" or "integrity" are in question here, I'll GLADLY vouch for anything with his screenname on it. Russ Thetonia Eastern Events Director C.A.S.T. 24. Excellent reply Bob, thank you. So, if I go a little "longer" on the lip, it will give it more walking dog type action?
  25. I notice with the slammer type baits, the first section does not have much side to side action. The usual waker uses the square bill. Is there a reason for this? I was thinking of using a triangular bill for the next one and seeing if it gives the first section a bit of swagger. Bad idea?
