  1. Thanks soo much for your reply Sagacious, I will try my next mold out of bondo,I have some that I purchased from Wa-mart some time ago. It is for car body repair.I have never used any before, but will give it a try.
  2. I have read everything I could find about making a water putty mold.I have read that it is a good idea to seal the mold also. Is the reason for sealing the mold ,to keep out any moisture while setting around in storage,or does it need to be done before it is ever used? I baked the mold at 225 degrees for 1 hour in my convection oven, but do I need to seal it before ever pouring any lead in it? I hope to find out how to get the most life out of it. The mold is of a bait simalar to the fish head spin. The first mold I made of a spinnerbait that I like, turned out fair ,but after pouring only a few times it crumbled in a few places. Will sealing it stop that?
  3. Heating your hooks and wire forms are very important,a very handy way of doing this if you don't have a hot plate, is to use a crock pot. My wife recently broke the bowl to her crock pot,I latched on to the bottom part of the pot, where the pot heats up from, basicly just a hot plate ,and it works great to heat up you hooks or wire forms. I just set the temperature to low, and you can handle hooks or forms with your hands, and it's still worm enough ,not to draw down the temperature of yor lead. Most every one has one of these setting around, some where.
  4. Cadman, do you still have any more textured powder paint left? Saugarman

  8. Hello, I recently found this site, and really enjoy reading about the baits that are being made, I've been making tackle for 25 plus yrs. Mainly lead baits. I am really interested in making my own molds, something I've wanted to try for some time. I have not been able to find Durhams water putty around here, but did find Dap water putty. It has some health warnings on it about breathing the powder, also about wearing gloves. It has silca and other known carcinogens in it. Has any one tried this product? Does Durham have the same warnings? I would really like to hear from some of you about this. Thanks alot Saugarman

  10. I.ve been reading all I can about making 2 part molds. I'm very interested in trying to make some, to try to make a few new style baits. Could not find Durham water putty where I live. Did find Dap water putty, has anyone used it? It has some precautions as far as wearing a mask and gloves to use it. Does Durham have the same directions?
