  1. Well.....I'd say the first trial ,4 lures 200mm long x50mm cup face poppers--- fail I am trying to spray a casting epoxy, Supposed features include self levelling, high surface tension and very high impact resistance. Result so far....this stuff is soooo unpredictable ie: mixed samples with varying amounts of thinners to get it to spray, Samples worked great! Sprayed the lures the next day, all lures key sanded and cleaned with thinners, mixed the epoxy exactly as before, sprayed lures- one lay ed up well, three beaded like a well waxed car:censored:, as they gradually went off the beading came together but still left an "orange peel finish". I admit I am trying to use this stuff outside it's parameters and I am still going to try a couple of different solvents. By the way it has NO odours but it tastes really bad (scary ****) and yes I wear a cartrage filter mask. If it doesn't work ? Start again or shelve it:? Unfortunatly the 4 prototype lures have to go off for testing as is (run out of time) I will let you know if it can stand up to big fish punishment when they return in a couple of weeks Cheers Crusty
  2. I am currently using an auto clear coat (2 pac) and applying 4 coats in consecutive days to get the high build I'm after. I find it takes about 2 weeks to fully harden and even then it's not as tough as flexcoat. I have just got a new product in that is suposed to have very high impact resistance and non yellowing. I made a small sample batch yesterday and after only 24 hours it seems to be true, very tough indeed. Now my next challange will be to see if I can spray it on . I will have to wait a couple of days before I can spray it over the auto clear but I will keep you all posted. Cheers
  3. G'day all Just wondering if any of you guys have used Flexcoat rod building epoxy as a clear coat on your lures ?
  4. I am guessing you are trying to get a rain drop effect? A trick shown to me a while ago (that I have not used) is to spray a water mist on the painted surface till it beads, then spray colour over the water ,big wide fan more like overspray than direct paint so it just settles on the water droplets. Then without disturbing the job let the water dry off. The end result should look like its still wet!!
  5. Mark Thats exactly what I was worried about, the 2 pac clears I use now take about 2 weeks to harden fully, I know because I keep the excess from each batch in a container and can see the solvents leaching from it. This may be a good opportunity to go back to acrylic clears for my base coats with pearls and/or sparkle fleck and then apply a good coat or two of Nu-Lustre Does the Nu-Lustre give a strong enough finish to protect acrylics? I would love to move away from 2 pac clears if possible By the way I love this site8) Crusty
  6. Thanks Snax, I wonder if it would have a chemical bond to the auto clear if applied within a 24 hour period, is it "thinners" based ? I am looking at putting the Nu-Lustre-55 on new lures so the coat of auto clear would still be "green". Do you think I would cover 30 lures from a 24oz pack? Cheers Crusty
  7. G'day... sorry to drag this one up again but aprox how many large lures (6-10inch) would you expect to cover with a 24oz pack of Nu-lustre 55. This stuff looks like it could be just the thing I'm looking for to finish my GT Poppers and Pencils. Atm I'm using a sprayable Dupont auto clear (2 pac) which works well for me because I can add Sparkle flecks and Pearls to the first coats but it is just not tough enough as a final coat, think 30-60kg+ fish:teef:. I was wondering if I could apply Nu-lustre over the top of my existing clear coats so I could still use the pearls etc . I have a couple of Amma Bamma lures that I think are finished in Nu-lustre 55 and it is surely the finish I am after. Cheers Crusty
