That being true then there are a few really talented people out there making mold for us. Are we not lucky that they fish instead of some other sport. Got to love that. Frank

My son does some parts designing for his company for there cncs and he sees the molds and says his programmer in no way shape or form can even come close to what is in those molds. You being in that part might know is that a program or is it the person programming those details? As many people already know Kevin can produce a mold from an email in just a few hours. How I dont know but he has done it for me and many others that have told me. Bears mold maker has that talent also just take a look at his hollow swim and you can see it. Getting X Y and Z to flow like that is a great thing for us to make some of the best baits out there. Like I said before this is great for all of us. Frank

Welcome it is nice to have someone who can add input and maybe even learn some thing along the way. Frank

Hey I just got my egg mold yesterday and shot them. Great idea. You know everybody has a reason they want a mold may I ask what is yours? I was on vacation when Kevin came out with those but they were on my first order when I got back. Frank

Tough to answer but I have to say the fat hog with wings from Basstackle.Frank

I guess no one wants to respond. I will and take it for what it is worth. Molds out there are of such great quality that, it does not matter who you get them from they are top quality( Basstackle,Dels,Bears Baits, Bobs tackle,Lure craft and Jacobs baits) If I missed some one sorry. As for injection you can inject a hand pour mold but you cant pour an injection. Most of the injection mold makers have settled on a 5/8 opening to inject. Most hand pour are of a taper design. An injection mold will fill all of the cavitys at once but if you inject a hand pour mold you will have to do one at a time. This is good if you want to inject laminates so you can put the colors from top to bottom or side to side. A good way to look at a mold is look at what it cost per cavity then compare. The mold out there are a little differant Bears has a hinge so you just clamp it and shoot. Dels has pins and nuts so ther is no need to clamp but more parts. Basstackles have wing nuts and alignment pins so you can put the nuts on and inject or leave the nuts off and clamp many together and shoot. Jacobs baits have pretty much the same as BTs but smaller bolts. Bobs are the same as BTs(he and BTs are cousins so they share ideas). So there really is no good or bad from any of them, they all make great molds. You will not go wrong with any of them. Injectors now here they all do the job but the clean up is a little differant. Dels have threaded on tip and require a little more time to take off but work great. The tubing is 125 wall. Another 125 wall injector is Basstackles but the tip is held on by a pin that can be turned slightly to remove. Very fast unit. Jacobs injector has thin wall construction with the same pin to lock the tip on. Another very fast and easy to use unit. Bears injector has thin wall construction but the tip is a push on and cleans very fast. I have made this review from my own experiance with these products and like them all. I have had the pleasure to own at one time or another all of the products in this review. So I am not talking about something that I read about,I have actually used all of them. You will have to make your own opinion when you get started. We all are very lucky to have all this talent making products for us. Frank

Keep us posted this is a great post. At least it is from some one who actually had one done. Frank

I would say go with some blue pearl to get a real bright blue hue. Then you will see the color differance well. Frank

I dont think it has ever been in question. Bears is a stand up guy and resovles issues asap. Others do the same also. Frank

I have had the Basstackles Twinjector since before it had pins to hold the tips on. Now that was a pain to eject the plastic from two at the same time, one always came out. I posted the fix in an email to him and he imediatly saw the advantage of this simple fix. From then on he has incorperated it into all of his injectors. It takes no time at all to get use to the tip, with the slight turn it comes off and a slight turn back and it will never fall off. Yes his two color system has more parts but the convinience of filling two colors at the same time saves alot of greif. Kevin does listen to his customers and is willing to make changes to his products, for us the end user. You can see by the molds that he is producing he is listening. That is good for us all. Frank

The custom stuff in 7 days is priceless. Frank

Dont let this guy fool you. I have one of his baits and as far as below average he is full of it. Now you are in Ca and so am I. Now your area was the last area that I knew that could actually sell solvent based products. If you can still get them it wont be for long. Where I am at in Ca it has been two years since they changed to water based for the Auto industry. Not top coats just the base coats. So if you fill your cabinet with a product that will not be available soon that is up to you. Water is going to be the future. I have used most of the products mentioned in this thread and for me Auto Air has the colors I need and beyond. The Auto Air has uv inhibiters in it for out door use and does not come in less than 4 oz containers. For me it shoots better in a 5 or bigger tip right out of the bottle. Detailing can be a bit if a challenge but you will have to find your comfort zone and it will be very rewarding. Just my Frank

I second that. Good service is hard to come buy. And the injectors are great. Frank

Good Luck on this journey I think you will find it a kick in the pants. Looks like you got a good start with your supplys. Frank

That would depend on the recovery time to heat the plastic for the next mold. In theary it seems to be better but the machine might not be able to keep up with that demand. Did bear not say he was not going to make bigger molds in the last video? My sound on my computer is not that great. I wish He would visit this site and maybe answer some of these questions. Frank

I have a few Basstackles so if you post a pic I will be able to tell you if they are his. Thanks Frank
-
Pretty easy decision when you have as many molds as you do. Frank
-
Could you post a pic I only see one cavity molds of the skirt. And what size is it?
-
What skirt molds do you have?
-
I have both the mold and injector and you can shoot without modification. I also hand pour it without problem in white pearl. Dont add vents until you shoot it with an injector or you might get to clean the vent sprues also. You will love the injector. Frank

There is a new injection machine that looks pretty impressive. Bears Baits just revealed the new machine from Britt his mold maker. Looks like a winner. Check it out he has some videos out with it working and some final baits. Hope this is not considered spam cause I have no afiliation with Bear just want people to know about a new product that can put the small guy up there with the big guys. Frank

Injecting it is a good way to get the plastic in fast and in small extremitys(that is not spelled right). Frank

Earthworm is right on with the list a great starting point. I have over seventy differant molds and three are one piece. I am with you on the flat top baits. Heck I even have some two piece open molds that I pour but dont like the out come. Molds come from alot of suppliers so look around and start with a bait you can be proud of. Bass Tackle, Del Mart, Bobs Tackle,Bears, Jacobs Baits And Lure Craft all have a great selection of molds. If you decide to go the injection route remember the hand pour can still be injected. All of the above suppliers have Injectors and good quailty ones I might add. Try and get the most bang for your mold dollar. Frank

Welcome, Your question on a starter kit is good but what direction will you be going? There are three differant type molds you can get or make, open meaning one piece, two piece meaning full round baits and injection meaning full round but you will need an injector to use the mold. So when you look at the kits from differant suppliers you will see a differance in price and you will know how to compare. Now a two piece mold that is for hand pour can be injected with great results so if you see one you like dont write it off if you want to inject. I started out with hand pour and love the versatility of using the molds both ways. I do alot of laminates and when I buy a mold that is always in the number one reason I buy it( how well it will do a laminate ). You picked a good time to start as there is alot of great products out that will give you a variety to choose from. Good Luck Frank

I have this mold just make sure the plastic is around 330 deg and you will have no problem. If you dont have a temp gun get one it will save alot of frustration in the future. But for now when you think the plastic is hot enough put another 30 seconds and pour. When stirred it will be very noticably thin. Here is a link to some temp guages. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result/?category=&q=infrared+thermometers
