    Ca. swim bait

They do not have an insert like that and would probably tear off without it.
  2. In rehab they give you crack to get off the molds. Frank
  3. I have that mold and at a kwik glance it looks the same it is not near as fat as the rago. The mold for the rago is very differant. That thing is very wide at the bottom. Dont know of any mold that is that wide. Unless you make your own. Frank
  4. Yes I suppose you can if you have the right equipment. Frank
  5. He said it was but mine being a prototype does not have that. Frank
  6. You want my old one?
  7. Just to let people know if you have been reading post on injecting and saw a post that contained a comment I made about Jacobs Baits injector, I want you to know that he contacted me and sent me a prototype of a new one he was making. This injector is the real deal and many improvements have been made in design and function. The tip has a long taper and will fit any mold I have. It also has a locking pin so it wont fall off when you dont want it to. The barrel is longer and easier to handle, also has a sleeve to keep the heat in and off your hand. The plunger handle is large and fits the palm of your hand better. All in all it is a real pleasure to use and if you are looking for an injector with a smaller nozzle this is the ticket. I have used it on molds from all the major suppliers and had no issue at all. Nice to see people can improve on a product. I am glad this is a learning board. Hope this helps anyone who is looking to get a real nice injector. Frank
  8. Hey Dave , jacobs has an adapter for his molds now. Pretty easy on the old wallet also. Frank
  9. Pete is right on the opening size. As for bass tackles if you want to inject one of his molds even if it is not an injection mold just ask him to make the mold for injecting and he will set you up. This just means the top has a flat on it and not a taper so your adapter will set flat and not wobble. He has done this for me countless times and it still can be hand poured. Actually the sprue is larger and requires less topping off after this is done. Frank
  10. Good to see some young views on this board and glad to see a young one with work ethics like you. As for the molds all you have to do is ask the mold makers to make a bigger one and most can and will do it for you. At least the ones that actually make the molds. I have done this and had good results. But they do shoot differant in some ways so it sounds easy but it can be tricky. Great subject Jim Thanks Frank

    Rainbows

They are 5 and 7". Molds are from basstackle.com. This is kind of a universal shape and works well for many types of bait fish.
  12. Well Jim I have been working on a mold with Kevin with 8 cavitys. And it is a differant animal totally. He could not get it to shoot without some defects so he sent it to me and after some time I finally got it to shoot good baits consistantly. I though it was the venting also but I am having him make another one without vents at all and try to shoot it like I did the first one. I have the capability of venting my molds at home so I will try and see what I come up with. One thing that I have found out is that all molds shoot a little differant and have there own personality. Hope it work out for you. Frank

    Rainbows

Finally got some time to just mess around with some rainbow ideas.
  14. Try this it seams to work better for me. After you pour your bellys hit it with a heat gun and close the mold and pour the second color. It seams to me that it bites better and gives more of a blended look. Heat it enough to see movement in the plastic but not enough to make it run. I do this on my open pours also and it give it more bite without heating the whole mold. Frank
  15. You can tell this post is from some one that uses one alot, Good info. Let me add one more to the list, my cordless chaulking gun at 100 bucks. And yes it is real easy to use. One thing about this is if you hesitate even for a few seconds the tip will start to cool and the dreaded tip bugger will be in the next shot. Frank
  16. I know what you are talking about colors and it really is all in the eyes of the beholder. I posted a pic in the gallery with a blue gill and a top pour swim bait. Same colors but I really like the blending that comes out of the two color injectors. The more I use it the more I think of differant ideas to do with it. It also has not ever been about production for me. I want a bait that in my mind is the best I can do. And I know it takes more skill to hand pour cause I am not happy with my results. Frank
  17. Funny thing that you tasted it cause i do it to but on mine only. I would have bet you that it was not salted. With a larger batch you will have more control of the color. Be gentle with the blue it dont take much. Let me know if you get it. One other thing I thought of is watch the temp of the plastic and dont let it get to high cause if it yellows it will throw off the color. Frank
  18. I do not use two microwaves but it need two. I commonly heat two two cup pyrex containers. This takes along time to do, like more than ten minutes. And when they get close I pull out one and stir then switch then put both back in . A real pain. But it can be done. The colors dont heat up the same either. and the amount in the cups needs to be real close also or you will need to watch very close. I use a infrared temp guage to ck to see that they are the same or close. Frank
  19. Hey no hard feelings we worked it out like humans. Sometimes things get out of hand with words. This is a learning board and every day I learn something new. Sometimes it works for me and some times it does not. The day I stop wanting to learn, they will be putting me in the ground. This Injection thing is just beginning aren't we lucky. And again No hard feelings. Frank
  20. No they are not salt impregnated. They are between soft snd medium plastic. I use mf plasticand on this color I used lc black and mf blue to get that color. If you add salt you will need to add alot more color. Oh and I am talking about the flick shake worm. You know I have worked in a body shop for almost 30 yrs and making colors is a real art so I talk like it is easy but to me it is. Toners and bases are just second nature to me. Most of the time if I have to match a color it takes me 15 to 20 minutes. And I usually dont right it down. But there is a few that I do and this is one. As for the amount of plastic it truely is easier to make a large amount because it takes more to screw up the color. When you use your colors make sure you shake them up real well so it is always consistant. I am guessing you dont have any of these at your disposal. I just sent Amistad tackle the last ones I had done. Or i would send you some with the color recipe. When I get home tomorrow I will look for what I have and let you know. Hope this helps Frank
  21. Not saying you are wrong on the miltiple cavitys but it does work for me. I have quite a few two cavitys and they are actually better and more consistant from bait to bait. One eample of that is a two cavity brush hog mold, the tails are actually two colors. I am sure that there are limitations but not with mine. I have a two cavity worm mold that is so consistant it is scary. When you hold the bait in the light it is dead nuts half and half. Frank
  22. I do have this exact bait in my copy color box. It is my friends favorite color. And when I matched it you could not tell where the original is in the order. I added a small amount of orange flake just to see if he would notice. He did and liked the suttle differance. So I am going off the actual bait not a pic on the internet. Frank
  23. I am not an epert but in 1/2 oz of plastic it is pretty hard to get a small amount of blue to match the ratio. In a larger batch there is more room for slight color changes. Frank
  24. I have one of yours and the thing about the tip sounds good but( there is always at least one of those) the hole is tooooo small and cools plastic to fast. The only way I could get yours to work well is to pull the plunger out and fill then inject. The insulater seems great till it gets hot plastic on it and melts. I know that this sounds kinda crazy but if you want to build a better injectoryou have to know what you are up against. Buy a Bears and a Bass Tackles then you will know what a real smooth injector is. Two differant brands but they are both a pleasure to use. By the way your molds are real nice and like that you are here now to add to the knowledge that is shared here. Frank
  25. I do have a Bass tackle Twinjector and find that it will give you a very nice bait without a large learning curve. I have had it for as long as it has been out. Yes it looks bulky and seems like a hand full but it does the job it was designed to. I will not coment on Bears because I do not own one. Let me give you a few tips that I learned myself. The temp of the plastic needs to be within 10 deg of each other. Mine shoots best at around 330 deg. The design lets you fill both of the injectors at once, with the cups next to each other. I put mine on a griddle set at 400 deg just to keep it warm for a longer time. Dont try to pump the plastic back and forth as you will introduce plastic chunks that hamper the laminate consistancy. Draw the plastic up shoot and evacuate the molten back in the cups and stop. Set it aside and clear the adapter(it comes with three wing nuts I just use the middle one) tthen clear the injectors and by then you should be able to demold. Then start again. After a while it becomes as easy as breathing you will do it without thinking. Another nice feature it has is the pins that hold the tips on. A slight twist and off it goes. I twist both and push the plunger and both pop out in my hand. I know that it is not important to some but for me when evacuating the plastic back in the cups they had a tandancy to pop off in the cups, you see they are together and you dont have three hands. This was a modification that I did and when I showed Kevin he adopted the idea to his line up. This is another good thing about dealing with Bass Tackle is that he is all ears when it come to your needs. And things will continue to evolve into something better and better if you enter this with an open mind. Do not let it get clouded from those who believe that this is as good as it gets. Your ideas might be the next big deal, you just need someone to listen. From what I have learned this injecting thing is not that old and this is just the beginning. I have a video here in a post that shows the twinjectors use. One thing for sure is that there will be more to come so if you dont get one now there will be a newer better one out soon. It is just a matter of time. Hope this will help you make the right decision for you. Frank And injection all the way.
