    More repaints

These are great! Just curious, are they LC's, Jann's or ?

    threadfin decal

Looks great! Did you paint the seams?
  3. Rayburn, I have been considering the mini blaster route. Can you tell me a little more about it? What brand do you use? Safety precautions? Amount of time it takes to strip a bait when blasting vs stripping? Maybe we should start a new thread to avoid hijacking this one. Thanks in advance.
  4. Not all baits a clear underneath the paint but most are. I usually start with 220 grit wet/dry to take off the paint. Once you are down to the plastic you can smooth it out with 400 grit wet/dry. Run it under water to wet the bait and you will see how clear it becomes. When it is dry, it will appear cloudy but when you wet it, you will see what it will look like once you clear coat it after painting. I sanded a Bomber Square A last week and it was "bone" color under the paint. I actually ended up just applying kill spots with a sharpie and leaving it at that. I just finished my first ever two repaints yesterday. They are in in a ghost table rock shad pattern. I am really pleased with the finish the etex gave them. I'll post pictures in the gallery soon.

    The Ott Jig

The screw lock is an awesome idea! I can't believe I haven't seen that before.
  6. That is exactly how its done. There is a really good write-up on it that also shows how to include the photofinish to it. Just search 'foil photofinish' or something similar and you should be able to find it.
  7. Just curious if plumber's putty would work to fill in teeth marks on a plastic lure before a repaint...?
  8. Thanks Dean! That gives me a lot to go off of. I will try some of these things soon and post results. One such being; not pealing the masking off in an upward direction. That very well may have been my mistake. Right now, my painting has been stalled due to >50 degree temps in the garage. A space heater is just not cost efficient for me as this weather is short lived in NC. I will experiment and post results asap. Thanks again everyone!
  9. How would I know if I have 'adequately' heat-set the paint? Please let me know. All I do is blow hot air from a hair dryer on it until it looks and feels dry. Is that not long enough? Let me know what I can do different and I will try the press-n-seal again and post results. I am just learning and have little experience to offer but am hoping to learn more and more that I can share with all of you that have helped me learn everything I know. Luke KingFisher, It did peal the paint up. I never got to paint over the stencil, I was still trying to align it.
  10. I am thinking this topic got lost in the mix. Tonight I think I will sand the rough spots and then go ahead and start painting the seams. Once painted, I will of course finish with the etex. Someone please let me know if I am going about this the wrong way.
  11. I searched for awhile and could not find anything so I decided to ask. I am working on my first photo/foil bait. The etex went over well last night and seemed to be doing fine as I monitored it for about 2 hours. But this morning I saw some bubbles that had formed around the edges of the foil on one side of the bait. The other side is flawless but the one side has several bubbles that has formed. Now for my questions: Should I try to sand the imperfections then coat again before painting? or Should I sand the imperfections and move on to painting? or Any other suggestions? also What did I do right on one side that I did not do right on the other side, so I can avoid this in the future. FYI: Foil was attached to a lipless bait using spray adhesive then brushed with etex.
  12. update: don't use press n seal on createx!
  13. I was wanting to add highlights to some of my lures without going through the whole repainting process. Things such as adding stripes, kill spots, etc. Can this easily be accomplished without doing a full repaint? Would I basically just scuff the area to be painted and add paint and apply epoxy? Could it be that easy? Just to clarify, these lures I am talking about are not previously painted or repainted but factory finishes.
  14. I ordered a fairly large batch of Createx paint from Dick Blick on 1/13. I have yet to receive this order as of 1/21. I ordered from them because of their low prices on the paint and moderate shipping rates. This is taking too long though. I ready to place another order already, but before I do so, can anyone suggest a place with similar rates (<3.50 per bottle) that can ship a little quicker? thanks!

    Gill popper

I gotta ask you about these eyes too! How are you getting such a realistic finish? Is that a painted-on eyelid? I'm impressed!

    Lipless gill

The eye is flat, correct? Is is just a flat eye or is it a hole punched in holo tape with a pupil painted on? It looks very real.

    3d Eyes

I'm looking at 3d eyes on Predators Bass Baits. I'm pretty new at this but I do know that I will never need a full sheet of any style eyes. I would rather have a large variety than a large quantity of one style. Do most of you order these individually? What is the best/easiest way to do this. I am also curious what some common sizes are. While I'm asking these questions, I also might as well ask where you all get your flat holographic eyes. thanks!
  23. My secret source has been leaked!!! I know that at least the Fat Raps are the regular Dick's price. Buy them up before Dick realizes his mistake!
  24. That is great! Thank you for that! You all make this too easy for us beginners.
