Was fooling around today with my new scale and tested the weight of 2oz unopened bottles of my paint all the same brand in same bottles, now although I would agree that they are not precisely filled at least probably not I found that for instance white weighed in at 92 grams then I compared it to another unopened white that came in at 91 grams but was surprised to see that unopened colors be it transparent or opaque were all over the place all the way down to 64 grams so I'm quite sure that pigment is playing the role here and can give an idea of how to go about reducing your paint. Also I weighed an unopened craft paint and was surprised that it weighed, you guessed it 92 grams and craft paint is as thick as paste so that was a surprise for sure. Just some observations while I get involved with this.

Well there is no doubt that reducing paint can be a PITA but best advice is to find a medium your comfortable with at a good price then learn to test each color and what it takes to "break" the paint make sure you note ratio such as how many drops of paint to reducer, I would not jump into homebrews until you get comfortable with the finite issues with different colors. do yourself a favor and search youtube and view as much as possible there's some really good advice and explanation of many of the common questions you may have.

The new water based paint for soft plastics would still need to be dipped in hot plastisol or clear coated as a top coat if that's what your referring to but yes it can be used as a dip, per the web site: CoLure Coat2O™ Clear 5800 The new CoLure Coat2O™ is a safe, water-based coating for painting PVC soft plastic lures. It can be applied with an art brush or airbrush and can also be used as a dip coating. It only has a slight odor, is not flammable and is easily cleaned up with water or rubbing alcohol. The painted lure requires a sealant coat before packaging of clear CoLure Coat™ soft plastic paint, VPI or (recommended) can be dipped into heated soft plastisol (LureWorks™ Clearasol™ is best) for a high-build 3D finish.

Well I have just gotten into it myself I bought the iwata neo and love it was around $50 but you'll need all the goodies like hose, compressor and things, I also bought the talon TG3 and I'm satisfied so far it came with three different tip/needle sizes and was around $119

Gotcha I've often wondered if the hollow wood could be turned into torpedo baits like a zara spook. We actually have had a rash of thefts here in our park system and along the rail lines where they were actually cutting them down to sell.

I'm new at this as well but I'll share what I've learned along the way. As a rule siphon fed airbrushes require a higher PSI in the neighborhood of 35-50 PSI in order to push the paint up out of the bottle and to the tip, low pressure works best with gravity fed airbrushes down as low as 15-20 PSI as the paint is right there at the tip. the higher the tip size the more consistent you'll be with paints such as pearls, glitters and definitely craft paint. Craft paint will and can work with good results but needs more attention while reducing and straining as the craft paint is not milled down to the fine particle size needed for consistent results. these are rules that I've gleaned while doing countless hours of research but as with anything there are exceptions to those rules its a lot of trial and error. You didn't mention if you were experiencing tip dry, you don't have unlimited open time with acrylics and may be experiencing dried paint on the tip interfering with proper atomization. Some guys will remove the crown cap or tip guard for better sight of both the work and tip but I don't recommend this if you are still learning as one drop of the brush or contact with a solid object and your needle is trashed. Good luck and let us know what worked out for you.

Water shoots can grow up to 10 times the annual growth of the parent plant depending on species. are you going to use the hollow parts or are you after solid wood sounds interesting.

Well I will agree with you that your posts are far from the norm and provoked many so not sure you're in the right place anyway as Rich stated the site is not a business how to site, some will gladly offer their experiences but it's more geared to the hobbyist and fisherman who like to come up with the next best thing and some have. If you come off strong headed I just don't think you'll glean much info here as people steer away from that type demeanor. Good luck with whatever it is you're planning to do.

Way to keep it going Mike I'm loosing faith in your continuance of this thread. But it takes moderation to stop it.

Thanks for the tip Ben it's appreciated, the reason I decided on using blanks is I need to learn some controls in tight areas for shading and such and figure the real deal will give me a better understanding of my brush's quirks, I Actually have 2 I bought the Iwata neo and the Paasche Talon TG3 for it's versatility for the money my little neo is very nice, the Talon had some quirks I had to work out but overall now that I have them worked out I can see this brush as a workhorse as its built like one. Thanks again and I'll keep you folks posted when I receive the blanks on the off chance that things turn out better than expected

Straying from my original question a bit being that I indeed intend to use them for painting practice is there a limit of how many times you folks will paint over the same lure?
-
Thanks brad when you say "Him" are we still talking about wlures or are we talking about Predator lures? Yeah I would think after several coats dried and heat set then a thick coating of D2T it would be good but at least they are honest which is rare these days so I'll just keep my eyes out when they come in to see if there is a noticeable gap in them. And yeah I hear ya on the shipping times kinda long but I have enough old knockoff's to mess with while waiting

That may be true for virgin lead but who the heck really knows what other nasty things are in there, I don't think expecting you have quality lead is an open invitation to deviate from safe handling practices.

Thank you sir I knew someone would hook me up! Thanks again.

I'd be really careful sending a teenager equipment that can possibly harm and injure him in today's,litigious society. Can I get an Amen!
-
thanks rich yep I pulled the trigger on 5 of each crank, minnow and popper just to get the feel for different baits plus if they do float I may even be able to use them fishing.
-
Thanks for the speedy response guys yeah I'm not expecting to much in the way of quality and figure I'm not wasting good baits during the learning curve.
-
Anybody use them here, I'm just dabbling into hard baits for a hobby not for resale and they were pretty cheap so I don't expect much but figured they were a reasonable price for learning.

Oh I hear ya Al I'm thinking that he's discouraged about posting anymore on the site not the business argument that's going on. Ya know I will add something that may be of help, Texasfisherman1 take a look at http://www.bigboybaitco.com/ I believe when he started he was your age and appears to be doing quite well give him a e-mail he may offer some direction for ya.

wow a good ole TU Donnybrook going on how'd I miss it Wonder how discouraged he is now

Lead is dangerous as soon as we break it form its bonds from the ore Galena as it is rarely found in its metallic state, lead miners never have lead health issues for this reason so reading a bunch of know it all's on the internet (it has to be true if its on the internet) mentality is flawed, mark my words deviate from the safety precautions that are warranted and you will find out the hard way. Psilvers how much and often do you plan to pour I mean is it possible to find and off site location better suited?

Gst International Lacquer Based Concrete Sealer As A Topcoat
gone2long replied to Mad Moose Baits's topic in Hard Baits
Sounds like some type of chemical reaction you would think if this stuff is designed to walk on that there must be some other interaction going on, possible that it's still outgassing? -
Yeah I also use a rolling motion with an exacto knife works great.
-
Have you tried hilts molds looks like some are similar.

Maybe a silly question but what do they look like without the black? sounds like allot of black for such a small batch.
