  1. Got ya I couldn't figure out how you were doing things, that's allot of plastic! Chris
  2. How much of a hurry can you be in that pre-heating the pot and then adding the goods than it is directly in the pot? The recipe can't change between the pot and the micro if you already know the ratio? I'm confused?
  3. I'm tryng to understand the advantage over say a presto pot? obviously it can't be cost, a presto pot cost $30 some odd dollars and the valve another $5 and holds at least up to 1 gallon of plastic safely. How long does it take to bring the plastic up to temp? I guess with a little experimentation you could find the right distance from bulb to pot to maintain melting temps and I could see not needing a presto pot for small pours say up to 2 cups it just seems like overkill for less when a cheap microwave and a pyrex cup can achieve that. I can see you would be able to maintain plastic at pouring temp for the full batch instead of in and out of the micro after every pour. Very interesting though thanks for sharing. Chris
  4. O.K. that explains what the pouring pans are sitting in. Great idea thanks for sharing that. Chris
  5. Longhorn just curious are those the high heat red bulbs you see food under to keep warm? Interesting setup it appears you hand stir? How do you adjust the temps move the light up or down? Chris
  6. Bass Whisperer, I've only been pouring for 5 months now and I made a presto pot and use it but found I go back to a 2 cup Pyrex and the micro more often then not, if you plan on pouring in the hundreds at a time the pot is great but I found out real quick its cheaper to make smaller batches until you get the color recipes the way you like them. Plus 1 mold to start will get red hot and demolding times will increase so your plastic will be in the pot longer with a higher chance of scorching. Either way good luck and I'm sure some folks will chime in with their experiences some of these guys can make killer baits with just a cup and micro.
  7. Wow I go to work and bam LC Watermelon on the brain. So to stay on topic has anyone figured it out yet? How bout a rash of e-mails to LC and see what can be done? Sorta like an electronic petition? Justa thought and my
  8. also do a search you may also find new ideas: http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/soft-plastics/17165-plastic-reheat-discolor.html?
  9. Don't be sorry thats how we learn here by asking. But I'm sorry cause I can't answer that yet as I have not poured a clear run yet. Someone will chime in I'm sure. Good luck.
  10. Del has it so does Lurecraft and Bears? are you looking for something special? Not trying to be funny but it does just that, helps prevent scorching when you pour hot (the upper reaches of your plastics range) some folks like to pour hot when they have small details to their bait also when pouring a large batch that will be cooking in the pot for some period of time helps as well.
  11. Wow didn't know that now I know why some salted baits still look translucent. Well I would figure that sand would be pretty hard on the presto pots finish so hand pouring sounds like the ticket. Wonder why salt & sand are needed then the bait that I'm talking about is only 4 inches long & 1/4" in diameter. Thanks for the link vodkaman, I do searches but for some reason I never seem to hit on the threads that have the info i'm looking for:huh:
  12. O.K. so without giving trade secrets away is anybody using sand and salt in their baits. Sand sounds like you would have to stir every bait poured? is there some type of "floured" sand? I'm looking for additional weight and have seen this advertised. Chris
  13. Welcome aboard Flyman. I too have only been pouring for about 3 months now and the wealth of information provided by the members here is outstanding, good luck and hope to see some of your creations. Chris
  14. Hey Dave no your on I was trying to understand for instance GY senko's have salt added but some are translucent and some are opaque so I figure the translucent one's do not have salt, or is there a trick to salting without the opacity. Which brings me to another question how in the world can you impregnate sand in your pour? I've seen this advertised by a hand pourer I mean you must have to stir like crazy and even then I would think it would sink to the bottom of the mold making one end heavy. Oh well looks like i found my next experiment P.S. thanks for the link going to read right now! Chris
  15. O.K. so salt is added primarily for weight right? So using stick baits and Tackle Warehouse as an example I see some sticks are translucent so is this an indication of no salt? I poured a batch the other day and added the salt first to incorporate and the plastic became white, so it stood to reason that color adjustments would be in order to compensate, but I would never get the plastic to become translucent again. My question is obviously this is two different types of fishing techniques since fall rates are much different between the two? Chris
  16. Thanks Nova and yes I did check out your site that's when I realized I was on point with the 8 ozs my pour matches your sticks almost perfect, nice site by the way and nice work. Since this was my first pour with it I didn't add salt but now I'm confident with the recipe. Thanks again. Chris
  17. I just poured a batch but it was almost black? I'm wondering if my pour spout on the bottle is twice the size of yours I added 4 more ounces of plastic and here's what I got the pic is darker than it is in person: Also used LC Golden Yellow as I did not have plain LC Orange, but I like it it looks just like the picture on Tackle Warehouse:) Thanks for the recipe:yay:
  18. Thanks Bear I figured that after my disastrous results I have red on order guess another order is due.
  19. Trying to match blue glimmer can someone tell me if they use blue highlite instead of blue colorant, I tried with the colorant and some pearl white now I have another batch of black to make:angry: Thanks, Chris
  20. I googled them and it states that they are in the process of moving to another server says if you know what you need to just e-mail. Chris
  21. Thanks for the confirmation guys just wanted to be sure! Chris
  22. Is it safe to say that bleeding between two different color baits is a thing of the past with the colorants in use today? I've had some not so perfect baits lying together and it's been quite some time and I don't see any bleed occuring. Also does plastic still react with certain materials and melt? Thanks, Chris
  23. Are you de-molding too soon? That's the only time I have had a dent.
  24. I save my tops from my stick bait mold, when I make a new mold I simply take a toothpick and put it through both the new bait and the top.
  25. I don't like getting into the frey but the exchange between the two was obvious from the get-go, hence the smiley's that were posted! Loosen up don't be so tense. If vodkaman needs clarification before you condemn try to clarify first. That's why a P.M. is in order. Chris
