  1. Mainbutter, Above all make sure you buy the proper safety equipment, first is to get a good respirator. Also get proper safety glasses, gloves, fire extinguisher etc. Lots of good info on this web site, use the search function. PS: One of the better items I got was a Laser Thermometer to measure the Plastisol temperature, no guessing anymore. Good Luck Jake
  2. Hi BobG, I have the AO Safety Quicklatch Pro Respirator (Half Mask) from Sears. It cost ~$40. With that I used safety goggles. "Description Respirator with an easy-on, easy-off feature. Comes with high-efficiency P100 filter cartridges (replacement 95061 cart.) that contain charcoal to absorb organic vapors and acid gas. NIOSH approved TC-84A-4005. Recommended for protection against paint and pesticide sprays/vapors, chlorine and muriatic acid, lead and asbestos dust/fumes, fiberglass insulation, solvents/glues/thinners, lacquers and enamels, sanding dusts and particles." Later Jake
  3. Bob G I hope you don't mine me asking this question on your thread, I thought it might be relevant. I too have the similar bubble issue when pouring sluggo's, just poured with this mold the first time today. I have a POP mold and sealed it with glue/water mix, this was all done sometime in May. I must have used 4 coats of the sealer mix at the time Since I already sealed it with this mixture, can I reseal it with something better? Or just add more coats of the same? Is there something better to reseal with? BOBG, I was curious what you sealed your with?
  4. All rightie then 5 gallon it is! Thank you all that have responded to my thread, having the support and direction really makes this an enjoyable hobby. Regards Jake
  5. I'll be making between 12" inch to 14" Sluggo style Baits, so based or your info I'll guess on making conservatively < ~200 baits? with a 1 gallon? Does that sound right? This is a really great message board lots of help here
  6. I'm a newbie at this, I have made my molds (POP). I have been reading for a while and feel ready to give it a shot. Since reading about the shelf life and also looking at the cost, I'm just not sure if I should buy the 5 gallon or 1 gallon plastisol? For now I'm just interested in making ~14 sluggo type lures, basically to minimize the cost of having them chewed ($4 a piece) up by marauding Dog Fish. It would help to have a general idea of how many of these I'd be able to make for the 5 gal vs the 1 gal. General cost: 1 gallon = ~$40 + ?? shipping 5 gallon = ~$108 + ~$26 shipping Appreciate your feedback regards Jake
