  1. West Systems makes a colloidal filler for epoxy. I'm pretty sure I didn't spell that correctly, but close enough for a web search. It thickens the epoxy while keeping the structural integrity. I think it might be close to the micro ballons someone mentioned earlier. After the epoxy sets it is easy to sand and stronger than elmer's and sawdust.
  2. I thought it should work well in stained water
  3. Thanks Rookie. I can definately see why this could turn into an obsession. I saw your football lure. Pretty sick.
  4. I think unless you are making really good money at it you could file any income under additional tips, wages, and other compensation on your tax form. Also, I think you could write off most of the supplies and equipment you use to make the lures you sell. I'm not a tax pro but that might be how I would approach it. You could probably talk to your tax preparer to get an idea.
  5. These are two baits I think may work well in a few spots I frequent. The photos don't show the colors well but the top is purple to hot yellow to white wth a blaze orange throat. The one with the spotted top has a light black stripe dividing the yellow and white. Can't wait to get more paint & more time behind the gun.

  7. Any suggestions for enamel manufacturers?
  8. I'll have to pick some up on monday. Thanks for the help
  9. I think I'll try epoxy instead of shooting a clear. I have devcon 5 min in my shop, I was thinking if I thinned in a little bit it might allow enough time to flatten out. I've used it for a while on woodwork as a base finish before varnishing, but these are two different types of projects. We'll see.....
  10. It is component systems vinyl lure paint.
  11. I'll try it tomorrow. As a side note.... This site is amazing. I appreciate all the help you guys are willing to offer. It's great to get tips and advice from "been there, done that" guys(and gals). Again, thanks:yay:
  12. maybe the thinner reactivated the purple and yellow?
  13. It looks crystal clear in the jar. I had to thin it out to spray, still looked clear.
  14. about a day and a half. I didn't heat set the paint.
  15. I painted a crankbait the other day. Hot yellow faded to white on the bottom with purple scale shoulder and solid purple top. I just like the look of that color combo. Real basic stuff. I decided to try the jar of clear coat I bought instead of epoxy. It turned the purple to a kind of brownish color and the yellow fade looks terrible. Just curious if anyone knows what happened or what I may have done wrong? Oh yeah, I used CS paints and clear. Thanks
  16. Great info guys. Thanks for the tips.
  17. I've been looking at createx airbrush paints. TCP Global sells a 30 or 32 color set with cleaner and a few other odds and ends for around $120. I got the cs to spray ok using the 1:1 ratio suggested. It is just frustrating because I already bought so much stuff...... and I showed a local bait shop some spoons I painted and he wants some. I think I have to get used to the cs for now.
  18. Can you shoot fine glitter mixed in paint or clear through an airbrush?
  19. Let me know how the water based vinyl works. Thanks for the input.
  20. Thanks. Have you tried the retarder they suggest?
  21. I bought a bunch of cs vinyl paint. It is so thick it's almost un-pourable. It kind of sticks together in a big clump. Is that normal? I thinned it from 20% to 60% and can't get it to spray correctly. Different tips, needles, and pressures - if I was spiderman I'd be in good shape. Is there some trick to this stuff or did I just waste a bunch of cash? How does the cs pre-thinned airbrush paint work? Anyone used it? Thanks....................
  22. I have never painted baits before. I bought some unpainted bodies but am not sure if I should scuff them up before painting. I have cs paint and an airbrush available to me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
