  1. Pirkfan Great reply, I never have heard about Tin Pest looks nasty.I also looked up Tin pest on the wikipedia website and at the end of the contents it said, Tin pest can be avoided by alloying with small amounts of electropositive metals soluble in Tin's solid phase e.g. Antimony or Bismuth, which prevent the decomposition. Silver, Indium, and Lead have also been used, but Lead is not soluble in Tin's solid phase. I was thinking that the ALLOY-R-92-PEWTER Casting Ingot 92% Tin, 8% Antimony would eliminate Tin pest. What do you think? Thanks again for responding Flatsrat76
  2. Well I contacted the guys over at panfishpro.com and asked them what they were made of and I got this e-mail Thank you for writing to us. Currently, the Mini-Mite™2 jig head is made with a metal called bismuth. Similar to lead in mass and weight, it is not toxic like lead and is considered to be environmentally safe. We use the word “currently” as the price of bismuth has increased about 1000% (one thousand) in price over the last few years. The reason for the increase is that the metal is being used in more application where lead once was. It’s that old supply and demand rule I suppose. Should the price continue increase, that either has to be reflected in the finished product, or, the material of the product must be changed. We sincerely hope this email has answered your questions. If not, please do not hesitate to write us back. Best Regards, Steve Meyer

  5. GCD I think your right when you said that it will need to be flux/clean before being used. The description kind of turns me off when it states, Still might have a tiny amount of foreign objects in it.
  6. Hawnjigs I agree that 1.29 lb. for scrap is expensive. I have been doing some research about lead alternatives and seen your post about bismuth and tin. Would you mind if I contacted you via pm to pick your brain?
  7. Fatman I think you are right that the pig would be the best bang for the buck for soft lead
