  2. I've recently been experimenting with green carving wax aka jewellers wax So far it look the business: - excellent detail reproduction - easy to carve - hard enough to be practical - relatively cheap I use RTV for the mold itself Nick
  3. What are the heat ratings for the RTV you want to use? This is as important as the Shore rating Nick
  4. The method i noted above of painting and forcing RTV into the hook slot will work fine with this if you are doing a 1-sided mold Nick
  5. Can you post a pic of the lure in question se we can look too?
  6. Is it a one sided mold? i.e. are you top pouring so the slot will end up at the bottom of the poured bait? If so you can anchor your master to the mold casing and paint the surfact of the master bait (eh heh master bait ) with RTV using a disposable paintbrush (helps eliminate air bubbles too!) ensuring you force plenty of RTV into the slot, then pour your RTV over the top as normal Easier to do than describe!
  7. Thanks Jim How does this work for some of our current mold suppliers that are selling molds that are copies of commercially available baits? Nick
  8. I know there are a number of topics where users have noted they have encountered issues when selling baits with similar physical styles and simialr names to well-known commercial concerns. But where doe we stand if we want to sell molds based on those designs? Do we still need to alter by 10% before we can escape the copyrighting issues? Just curious Nick
  9. salt adds weight/decreases the natural bouyancy of the plastic used its also adds "taste" and firms the plastics texture POP - Plaster Of Paris Nick
  10. 27 Features : Outstanding release properties High Flowabilty and long woring time Medium Hardness High tear resistance High elasticity for easy removal of complex replica parts Can be made thixotropic (non flowable) for vertical surface replication Cured Properties of MBFG Silicone Colour : Salmon Pink Mix Ratio : 100:10 Working Time : 40-60 Minutes De-Mould Time : 12-24 Hours Mixed Viscosity mPas : 18000 Hardness Shore A : 27 Tensile Strength Mpa : 3.0 Elongation @ Break % : 520 Tear Strength kN/m : 23 Linear Shrinkage & : 0.2-0.4 60 Features: Color - Red Approximate Working Time - 8 Minutes Approximate Demould Time - 25 Minutes Viscosity at 25°C (77°F) - poise 280 Mix Ration - 10:1 Hardness Shore A : 60 High temperature stability to 250° C Tensile Strength die C psi :900 Elongation @ Break % : 120 I'm thinking 27 is better for soft baits? TIA Nick
  11. Thanks I had also considered doing that! That method has the advantage of being able to mold a weighted jig hook into the body as well It would be nice to get the whole fish shape with the dorsal fin but not essential Nick
  12. Hi guys I'm looking for some advice as to the best way to make a mold for this bait? note the complicated belly flap arrangement! I thought of a 2 piece POP mold top pouring with sproes as shown and thin vent holes to allow the plastic to rise to fill as shown in this one: this method will require some trimming but as these will be for me only the minor cosmetic flaws this will create are acceptable Am I on the right track here? Thanks in advance Nick
  13. try lurecraft.com or from france www.bricoleurre.com nick
  14. I have the Soft and Hard plastics in regular and the Medium in "green" The medium green seems to be as soft as the soft regular IMHO Just my opinion and worth what you paid for it!
  15. Mark I'm in Ireland and I buy my stuff from Lurecraft Postage isn't cheap but the service is exceptional some of the molding stuff can be bought from Hobby.uk.com Nick
  16. I thought that was just me LOL
  17. Heres one I did for another site: http://lureandmore.com/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=5383 I have it in PDF format as well if you'd like a copy Nick
  18. Thanks Smallie I also found some on eBay but unfortunately they either didn't post to Ireland, or the cost was prohibitive. Theres a company in the UK where I might be able to get some. I'll do an experiment with vaseline, but if that doesn't work, I'll but some release spray Nick
  19. Hi guys I tried making my first 2 part RTV mold using an SP master over the weekend. 1st layer went as well as can be expected (please note megabass vios material shrinks and absorbs the colour from RTV catalyst!) However after pouring the seocnd layer over the top and alowing to dry, I was unable to separate the layers I had tried using WD40 as a release agent but this doesn't seem to work Would vaseline work ok? or should I bite the bullet and order some release agent? TIA Nick
  20. In Lurecrafts DVD they just suspend the jig within the mold with what looks like straightened out paperclips and just pour liquid plastic over the jig Seems to works ok - nice and easy I'm going to try it myself next time I'm pouring I'll let you know how I get on
  21. Do I just mix the scent in with the jelly? Or do I have to heat the jelly in the microwave until it becomes liquid first then mix? Thanks in advance Nick
  22. Thanks Dave A clear plastic cup was what I was going to use as well ("borrowing" them form work today in fact!) Nick
  23. Perfect thanks! I suppose as well the master will displace some of the RTV as well which should be enough of an error margin Nick
