  2. They told me, but I've been sworn to secrecy. Ben
  3. lol I was just coming back to tell you I tried the email addy and it didn't work. No need to be sorry bud. We all make boo-boos. Thanks for double checking and coming back with the right addy. Ben
  4. Who can resist a piece of watermelon on a hot day? Ben
  5. Thanks Crab. That is a big help. Ben
  6. When I spray DN I use somewhere close to a mix of 20% acetone. I spray it with a Paasche airbrush using their mid-sized nozzle. Can't help you with the spar urethane. Ben
  7. Hey Crab, Is there any way to get in touch with him other than on Facebook? I really don't want to have to go to all the trouble of signing up with Facebook again just to have to turn around and delete all that stuff. thanks, Ben
  8. Lip angle/size/shape all play a role as well as ballast placement. A lip with a greater angle in relation to the centerline of the bait front to back will generally create more "waggle". You talk about developing a deep diver. The drawback to the greater lip angle is that you start sacrificing depth. Lips positioned closer to the same plane as the centerline will dive deeper while lips positioned closer to vertical run shallower. You can also change the amount of side to side action by where you locate your ballast. A bait with the ballast located at the baits center of gravity will have a stronger action than one with the ballast located away from that point. This is of course the center of gravity from front to back. When you get right down to it everything about a lure plays a role in how that bait acts. Some more so than others. Below are links to a couple of threads discussing exactly what you are wanting to know. While there is no step by step list (that I know of anyway) on how to design/build a lure the info below should set you in the right direction. good luck, Ben http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/31268-increasing-roll-and-swimming-action-on-prototype-shad-crank/#entry253952 http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/30530-flat-side-balsa-action/#entry247072
  9. Politicians need to be watched closer than a monkey with a hand grenade. Ben
  10. I was wondering how long that was going to take. They're certainly proud of them. Hard for me to justify paying that price for a buzzbait. Ben

    kentucky shad

Not sure what a Kentucky shad is supposed to look like, but that is a good looking paint job. If it won't catch in the lakes you fish send it to me and I'll send it back with battle scars. Ben
  12. Has anyone checked the wall thickness of the baits that are blowing up? If they are thinner they could be significantly weaker than baits with thicker walls. Ben
  13. It's not really about the dog Chuck. It's the whole "friending" concept that drives a huge portion of the Facebook users. When I first joined Facebook I heard from people that I haven't seen, or heard from, in years. I thought it was great at first, but as soon as I accepted their friend request that was the last I heard from them. No replies to messages or anything. That told me that all these folks were wanting to do is increase their friend total. So much for being an actual "friend". I'm exactly like you in one respect though. The more I learn about people the better I like my dog. Ben
  14. Unfortunately common sense is becoming less and less common these days. Ben
  15. There are quite a few guys here at TU that use the taxidermy paints. You might ask them what colors they recommend. Ben
  16. Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. Only problem is I closed my Facebook account. When I got a friend request from a dog I knew Facebook was not for me. Ben
  17. Have you looked at any of the taxidermy paints? They offer a lot of colors that are more closely matched to the critters in nature. Ben
  18. Thanks everyone. I'll try a search on Facebook and see what I can find Nate. It sucks to get old and accumulate all the maladies that go along with it Pete. It's gotten to where I need glasses to find my glasses and my hands shake worse than a chihuahua trying to pass a peach pit. That's why the search for some gill templates. I'll check out the erasing templates JW. I've tried making gill templates many times in multiple ways Chuck and they always end up less that stellar. I was looking for some ready made ones for the reasons mentioned above. thanks again guys, Ben
  19. I have no experience with powder paints, but have used a good amount of epoxy and can't think of a reason it wouldn't work. I've mixed flake in with epoxy and have even added a few drops of water based paint to color it. I was a bit surprised that the paint worked with no ill effects, but it did. Ben
  20. Hey guys, Does anyone know where I can get a set of gill stencils in a couple different sizes for bass sized baits? I suck at trying to cut them myself and there's nothing more aggravating than screwing up a bait at the last step trying to add gills. I've tried calling and emailing LureLayouts, but can't get a response from them so would rather not go that route. thanks, Ben
  21. I agree with Dave. All my wood baits get a coat of thin super glue and as long as I keep my finger moving it doesn't stick. Any residue left on the finger gets a quick plunge in acetone and is wiped off. If any dried glue remains I rub the fingertip on a piece of 120 grit sandpaper. Ben
  22. You guys do realize this post is almost 6 years old don't you? And Chuck, I hate to tell you that lurechica hasn't been logged in since September of 2010.
  23. I'm no expert when it comes to hydrodynamics, but it seems to me the angle of the lip is intersecting the bait much too high on the body. This, along with the size of the lip radius where the lip joins the body, leaves very little of the lure body for the flow of water to interact with. If the flow of water has nothing to push against you won't get the desired loading and unloading which drives the action. Just my . Ben
