  1. Thanks Curt. I know you've got your hands full and didn't mean to sound impatient. Ben
  2. Good luck on the pike Gliders. Just don't forget and try to "lip" them. Ben
  3. Here's something you might try Gliders. If your wanting to mix say gold or silver scales with some holo scales then you could stack some different types of foil on top of one another. These could be taped together around the edges so they wouldn't slip. Then take a razor blade and cut out the size and shape of the scales you want. By stacking the foil on top of one another and cutting through all thicknesses at the same time the scale on top would be the same size, and shape, as the scale directly below it. These could then be fitted together in whatever pattern you wanted. It would be a lot of tedious work, but it should accomplish what your talking about. Ben
  4. Welcome to the Homer Simpson club of lure building. Doohhhh!!! Ben
  5. Nice work Apdriver. Those look really good. For a few years the golden shiner pattern really killed them on Rayburn. I lucked out and was one of the first people in the Rayburn area to have some of these. They not only caught fish they caught GOOD fish. Ben
  6. Any progress on getting carried to the first unread post in a thread instead of having to scroll through a thread to find the new posts? Or numbering the posts in a thread? Ben
  7. Hey Ron, Some time ago I tried contacting them to do a custom stencil for me. Sent several emails and made multiple phone calls with absolutely no success. They had some stock stencils I was interested in as well, but the lack of communication made me leery of doing business with them. Ben
  8. You could also try covering the plastic with a piece of Duct Tape. Not sure how it would hold up to the heat required to soften the plastic, but it would be worth a try. Ben
  9. I'm using Loctite General Performance spray adhesive. It's the Lightweight Bonding 100 series. Have been getting it from Ebay. Here's a link. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=loctite+100+spray+adhesive&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xloctite+general+performance++spray+adhesive.TRS0&_nkw=loctite+general+performance++spray+adhesive&_sacat=0 The best way to apply the netting once it's sprayed is to hold the bait in some type of vice, holder, or whatever you have so both hands are free. Just stretch the netting between your hands and lay it over the bait. I had used binder clips, clothes pins, etc. for a couple years before Gene told me about using the adhesive spray. With the binder clips, clothes pins, etc. you have to pull the netting tight. This can be a problem getting the netting to fit tight around diving lips since the netting won't conform to the bait where the lip protrudes from the bait. With the spray you don't have to have the netting stretched overly tight which will allow it to conform to the bait better. If you decide to try the spray and have any problems just give me a holler and I'll try to help. Ben
  10. If your having trouble with the netting wandering around try spraying it with some low tac adhesive spray. Just lay the netting out flat and give it a quick spray. It doesn't take much and creates a good seal between the netting and the lure so paint doesn't migrate under the netting. Ben
  11. Are these what your talking about Rob? Scroll down about halfway on the page. http://www.predatorbassbaits.com/id69.html Ben
  12. On the old software you had an option to click on unread posts and it would carry you to the first unread post of that thread. I can't seem to figure out a way to do that with this new software and it's really annoying. I can either click on the post and it will carry me to the first post of that thread, whether I've already read it or not, or I can click on the latest post and it will carry me there. If there are multiple new posts to a thread it still carries you to the latest post and you have to scroll back through and find any unread posts. If I'm missing something I would appreciate it if someone would enlighten me and if this is just how the new software works then can we please do something about it? thanks, Ben p.s. It would also be nice if the posts were numbered so when a referral is made to a specific post in a thread it's easier to find.
  13. I will say one thing. It's definitely different. There are some things I like and some other things not so much. Probably nothing I can't adapt to over time. I'll hold out on my opinion until the final work is done. Ben
  14. As long as a picture adds to the topic at hand there isn't a problem posting it in a thread Gliders. It sounds like this one will be just fine. Ben
  15. A gravity fed brush will also spray at lower pressure than a siphon fed brush. This comes into play when you need to hold the brush up close to the lure when painting details. Ben
  16. Hey Dale, Here's a link to a thread with several good ideas about how to hold jointed baits while painting. Ben http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/28178-simple-and-cheap-swimbait-holder/?hl=%2Bcoat+%2Bhanger+%2Bswimbait
  17. That's a trick that I think Gene told me about. It was either him or Nate. With my memory being what it is these days it's a wonder I could get it narrowed down to just two members. Anyway, I can't take credit for it. I use the low tac spray adhesive and don't worry about giving it time to set up. It's sticky as all get out right out of the can and you won't have any trouble with the mesh moving around. And don't worry about any residue being left on the bait. You can paint right over it and you can't see a thing. Ben
  18. Tackle Warehouse is having a 20% off Black Friday sale with an additional 10% off selected items with free shipping on orders over $50. Sale ends Nov. 29'th. No special code needed. Ben
  19. Contacting the supplier doesn't necessarily mean you will have to return the blank and therefore end up paying postage. They could very well just ship you a replacement or make it good on your next order. Ben
  20. If you spray the mesh with adhesive it assures you of a good seal between it and the bait. The paint won't bleed under the mesh and mess up the scale pattern. Believe it was either Gene or Nathan that first told me about that trick. Ben
  21. I don't buy and paint blanks, but if it's from a reputable dealer I'd give them a call and see if they will make it good. Most of the blanks you get will come from China, but some have much tighter quality control than others. But even then a few bad ones will slip through. Ben
