  1. I have also found it on Ebay ... not sure how the price works out having to pay for shipping.
  2. Thanks for all the info. I have been thinking about getting some DN to try out. I did finish painting my first lure (Rattle-Trap) and put 1 coat of D2T on it. No problems ... everything came out. Shiny ... but not as shiny as I have seen some lures. How many coats of DN do you need to put on?? BTW ... took my first lure out to the lake and caught several fish with it
  3. I just started painting and have been playing around with Devcon 2 Ton on a couple throw aways to learn how to apply it. I finished my first paint and clear job. No problems But was wondering about the glossy look of D2T vs. Dick Nite's. I was wondering if anyone could post some pics of 2 baits side by side ... with one cleared w/ Devcon 2 Ton and the other w/ Dick's. To compare the difference in glossy look between the two.
  4. Found mine at Ace Hardware. Brother found some at Bass Pro Shops in the marine dept. but he paid almost twice what I paid. I believe you can order it off of Ace's website and I believe you can also order it in 50ml size.
  5. I know this is a stupid question ... but here goes ... Any tips / tricks on taping off the the lip on a crank? I put my lips on before I paint and tape them off. BUT it seems I spending ALOT of time taping these things off. Trying to get a straight line across the lip, working around the hardware on the lip and trying to get a straight edge on the side of the lip to match with the top and bottom taping of the lip (if that desc. makes sense)
  6. Rob, I get mine from Hobby Lobby. Go online to Hobby Lobby and they usually have a 40% off coupon. Tulle isn't much a yard to begin w/ but 40% off allows you to get more for your money
  7. BassinMaumee, Something I did to give me something to practice on or to try a skill out before I apply it on a crank.... I went to Lowes and bought a small/med size piece of latex/polycarbonate sheet (cost about $4) and painted one side w/ white primer. Flip it over and the primer shows through and I practice on the clear side. Practice techniques, mixing paint colors, shading, etc. When finished just wash it off and you have a clean slate to work/practice with again
  8. With your single action your AIR and Paint were being dispersed at the SAME time. With your new dual action you are now controlling the amount AIR and Paint by how much you push down (air) and pull back (paint). I have a dual action Iwata and my brother has a Aztec. He can do fine lines better because he has different tips that do the controlling. But I have better control over the how the paint is applied. Nothing wrong with using your new airbrush for coverage and your old for your detail. A lot of guys here have an AB just for detailing. I'm currently looking a getting another AB just for detailing. Hope this helps.
  9. I got most of list together for the order but still wondering about yellow and orange. What Yellows and Oranges of Polytranspar and Wildlife do you suggest or get? What about reds ... deep red, burgandy, etc. Thanks.
  10. I'm looking at buying a 2nd AB and was wondering what the difference is between a Side Feed and a Gravity Feed AB is. My current airbrush is gravity fed. Thanks.
  11. I'm going to put an order in to WASCO for some paint ... Polytranspar. Definitely going to get the Superhide White for base coating. Any suggestion for other colors? Not painting any one type of fish. Going to be all types and some creative ones Thanks.
  12. BobP... Thanks for the info. From my reading I assume that you can only get Dick Nite from his website. And it seems its hit or miss if you can get an order in. I looked on Dick Nite's site .... is 2 oz. the only size the topcoat comes in?
  13. I've read a bunch of the posts on finishes. It seems the Dick Nite's, D2T, and ETEX or what are used the most. My questions are: 1. I'm I correct in that ONLY D2T requires a drying wheel? The others can be hung? 2. Does anyone have any experience with any of the finishing clear coats that rod builders use?
  14. What Airbrushes do others use for the fine detail work on cranks? I currently have a Iwata Revolution CR that seems to handle just about anything I want except a find lines. I'm wondering if I just need smaller needle size?
  15. New here and new to creating my own cranks. Had a few ? if that is ok. 1. What paint (type, brand) is mostly used? From looking around it seems most people are using Createx? 2. Is everybody using a double-action AB? Is it gravity fed or bottle fed? 3. Where can I find unpainted lures? 4. Coat the lure with a clearcoat (2-part), polyurathane, etc. 5. HOW DO YOU HOLD THE LURE WHILE PAINTING Thanks for the help
