    Gizzard Shad

10" slow sink gizzard shad. Working on different paint schemes, this is beta version 1. Thankfor looking
  2. I will also say that being an engineer has its draw backs as well... you tend to overthink the problem, try to be too perfect and you have a day job that takes a lot of your time away from the building of baits
  3. Only things I can think of that help as being and engineer are knowing material properties (IE shear and tensile strength of different materials), understanding of fluid dynamics and boyancy, understanding of the R&D and problem solving process and most importantly that everything you do costs something no matter how small.
  4. spend a week or so just browsing this site. I can promise you that you will find about 75% or more of the information you need to get going. What are your plans? Do you just want a 1 off bait or are you trying to reproduce?
  5. are you just looking to paint a swimbait for re-sale? If so your not going to find many. Probably be better off asking around for people wanting custom paint. And be very careful of blanks from the off shore producers b/c odds are they dont swim correctly
  6. Awww come on now, they dont take that long to make
  7. I'm a structural engineer. I make baits as a hobby/addiction and it gives a little side cash to continue the addiction
  8. Come on now mike...I cant give away everything on how I pour my baits. But honestly I dont have to wait
  9. Can you post a photo? Is the lexan tail fixed to the segement or pinned? How long is the tail? What is the lexan thickness? If your lexan is fixed to a resin segment that can rotate 180 degrees then you have a very long fulcrum that would be easy to break the tail off 3/32" thickness. If you make a thicker tail to be stronger the next weak link will be the joint itself. Need pictures to better address
  10. Your nuts man...Call it the whisker rig

    Alabama Rig!

lol if i was a rod building guy id have an alabama rig rod ready to go..because the next thing is going to be these guys are going to have worn out arms trying to throw it on flipping sticks...if they are willing to pay $100 for a 5 dollar rig...who knows what they would pay to throw it comfortably. by the way i claim a design patent on the idea

    Alabama Rig!

Totally argree! This will be the next great thing until people get tired of getting hung or dont catch 10 fish on one cast or cast it off using inadequate gear lol. Elias is just lucky he wasnt marking a school of hybrids or stripers. Oh well im good with my solo rigging for now
  17. Why did you do that! Now my mind is racing thinking of how I can use something like that. Pretty nifty little tool

    Ready to get bit

I got a lot of fishing to do this weekend lol got two dozen to throw. Thanks for viewing
  19. I have no issues slow or fast, sinking or floating
  20. If it was easy everyone would do it lol! It's always easier the second time around lol
  21. ive never used featherlite but alumilite has varies cure time resins. the typical alumilite cures in like 10 minutes. just look at thier site they have all the info. im sure it was trying to set if your pouring a multi-piece swimbait in one shot. i can almost gaurantee you thats why your sections are not coming out with any consistancy. if i were you i would make a two piece mold of each section, properly vent it, and see where that gets you. from my experience the more steps you skip trying to make the process faster, the more likely your going to mess something up
  22. All i can tell you is your going to have to play with the mix. Ive never made a waver style bait so im not sure where your ballast is or how you plan on putting it in. I dont use any lead/weights to ballast my baits, its all in the mix. So i may be no help there. You will go through some resin at first but I think you will figure it out. PM me if you need some help
  23. Spoken like a true baitmaker. Very commendable. Yeah I saw your video on the other site. Looks like a great distressed shad/herring bait. You prototype was PVC right? You are really gonna have fun when you try to get it to work with resin but you will get it im sure
