  1. I have been following this thread due to I am interested in dipping and turning a bait vice mixing e-tex or some other epoxy product. I see that some people having problem with air bubbles or bubbles, I wonder if the problem is due to maybe the bait not being sealed properly. The reason I am saying this is because when I first started making and clear coating baits I had a terrible time with air bubbles and I finally figured out the problem, at least with my baits, the problem was that I was not doing a good job on sealing my baits. I am going to try KBS Diamond clear when I run out of e-tex and Devcon2 ton, I love the idea to just dip, let it drip than turn, my two cents Gino
  2. I should have been clearer, the tripod is no problem. What I am thinking is that when working on a bench to get a good camera shot maybe should build a shelf or mount off a wall using the 1/4 screw that camera have with a ram mount, or something in that nature. Remote control for the zoom would be nice Gino
  3. Added the eye loop bender in conjunction with the wire Jig, eliminating the round nose pliers. Muskie bucktail .051 wire easily done, save on the fingers to push and bend the wire Gino
  4. I am thinking on doing some videos and my main question is how to set up a video camera beside a tripod, when filming video by yourself Gino
  5. I like to see a Bait done in DN or some one point a bait in the Gallery to look at Gino
  6. I own a Harbor Freigth lathe, it's been 3 years and runs really good, very heavy duty made from heavy cast iron. I am really happy with it. Harbor freight does not have the best tools and machinery, but this particular lathe it's really good. I make musky size Bomber baits and the Hellbenders, these are baits made back in the 1940 for bass, but musky love them too. Happy turning Gino
  7. Great video Dave, I need to learn how to use a simple graphic software to do the multiple design on the lips Thanks for sharing Gino
  8. I forget to mention that for your balsa baits I recommend to use propionate to seal the bait. Usually they make two batches of propionate a very thin so it willsoak in the balsa wood to give strength and a thicker solution, the first dipping you I let the bait soak for 3 hours after that I dip and take out, because the solution use acetone it evaporates very quickly. I make balsa muskie twitch baits and on the balsa bait I make a wire harness that I installing the belie of the bait and I use epoxy to secure the wire, that is how Crane Baits do their baits. If you go to tacklemaking.com they have all the instruction on the propionate and they have a link to e-bay where to purchase the plastic pellets, acetone you can get at Home Depot Hopefully this helps Gino
  9. Ichdus check out your local outdoor deck builders, that is how I found my PVC deck board, other brands will also work Gino
  10. I know there are some muskie fisherman on this site, so I made a wire twist Jig to eliminate the vice grips and the Jig is slim enough to make the final loop on the bucktail wire. I posted it in the Home Brewed Tools Gino
  11. I made this simple little tool to make the final neat twist for the .051" wire and is slim enough to do the final loop I start my loop with the Knipex round nose pliers Than I insert the wire in the Jig and use lineman's electrician plier to twist the wire How to make the Jig need a piece of 1/4 stock by 1.0 or 1.5 inches and around 4 inches long by 1/4 inches thick Drill press 10-32 tap and matching drill Cut the slot first ( I use a hacksaw and finish up with Dremel tool) Last drill and tap the screw hole use a s/s 10-32 bolt about 1 inch long cut the head off and notch the very end of the bolt Note the notch traps the wire Have Fun Gino
  12. Thanks Hazmail, are the those blades fit Ryobi 18 volt saw? Gino
  13. check out Hobby Link, saltwaterplugs.com and hobby lobby has balsa wood Gino
  14. Thanks Nathan I will try that, I imagine I could use my Dremel tool I do have a diamond bit for it or better yet I have a Fordom too that should work Gino
  15. I looked all over trying to find a small saw like 4 inch blade, After I done an extensive search all the little saw all have bad reviews, I ended up canceling my order for the Hobby Craft saw that has all bad reviews. I cut all my lip slots with my band saw and it works fine but I wanted something else to do it, plus other small cuts which I think it's a lot easier with a small table saw. My solution I have a Ryobi batteries saw and plus I just made a small table which along the two 6 inch board has a slot and the blade fit in there just right , the blade sticks out 3/4 inches that is plenty for my work. I mounted the saw under the table lined up the blade, pretty much se to go, tomorrow I will build the fence and I will have my small table saw. The saw blade is only 5 inches. There is a 4 inch saw but the price is almost 400.00 and I doubt very much that would cut 3/4 wood Gino
  16. I build muskie baits so your larger baits, the 6 inch one I suggest to use Azex deck board is a lot stronger, has some kind of wood fiber in it, the white trim board have broken on me, I did hit shore rocks, broke where the lead ballast was located, at the weakest spot, the wall very thin there due to 1/2 ballast holes, the trim board for the smaller baits works fine. When I ballast my glide baits what I have done that I made a jig out of hardwood with different size diameter holes, I use 3/8 and 1/2 diameter holes for my larger baits. Make the holes deep enough to accept the amount of lead you are going to put inside your bait. Once I know the exact amount of ballast I needI put all the pieces of lead in my small lead ladle, I melt the lead with a propane torch, than pour in one the holes in the jig, than unmold the lead and install in your bait. Note the jig is basically two pieces of hard wood sandwiched together very easy to build. This sounds complicated but its very fast and easy to do The deck boards I do two sealing coats, because the wood fiber they do raise when they get wet, the trim board no sealing required. For sealing I use Deft Lacquer Sanding sealer, it's a great product, the saltwater guys use it, you can get it at Amazon. I love building baits out of PVC Azex fast and easy, very nice when making a prototype baits, My glide baits have caught many big muskie on LOTW Note I learned all of this on TU and I have come up with some of my own ideas fro my muskie baits building Gino
  17. Muskie's would definitely have a snack Very nice work Gino
  18. Did you paint the outer edge of the eye or are the thump tacks gold in color Thanks for sharing Gino
  19. I broke the threads off my Revolution, part of that nozzle or the thread part are still in the gun, if they are there you can jam something in that small orifice and back out the threads, that is the way I got mine out, than order a new nozzle for that model brush. Chicago air brush has a great website with all the parts listed with easy diagram to follow Gino
  20. Some times I use this site to purchase some bait materials, the site is called Salty's and he has a product called Saltys super coat I was wondering if any one here has used it. It say's you can deep or spray, but I think is lacquer base clear coat Here the site www.saltwaterplugs.com Gino
