  2. Hey Ben I realized that right after I posted The Macz1 the scales are 2 mm wide by 1.5 mm long the Macz3 5 mm by 4 mm. I would think the Macz2 would be some were in between the 1 and 3 Hopefully this helps Gino
  3. Hey Ben The tool would be perfect for bass baits due to the tool roller is only 1-3/8 wide by 3/4 diameter. on muskie baits that are not wider than 1-3/8 works fine, the length does not matter. I found that to make very good scales I put the handle of the roller in a vise than press the foil with my fingers ovr the roller and keep on rolling forward until the entire foil is done. I cut the shape of the foil first before I roll the scales Gino
  4. I think the mistake I made is that I used a paint reducer instead of a transparent base, I taught that the reducer would do the same. I do have a transparent base, I also will try a lighter color bait. The wall eye I basically use pearl gold than I shade it with transparent black very lightly until I get the right shade of my golden walleye I do not mind at all to share some of my secrets, after all this site is always sharing, I learned a ton from you guys when I started three years ago Any way the tool is called MAC-Z-SCALER there are a all bunch do not get maczi or macz2 the scales are to small and will not come out clear. The one I use is the macz3 you can purchase them at Wasco taxidermist supply or Mkenzie, they are abnout 35.00 dollars each go to www.taxidermy.com Gino
  5. Here is the bait and a foil sample that I made for a crane bait Gino
  6. I made two baits with aluminum foil one using HVAC tape backed foil and another jus plain kitchen foil, I used a fish scale tool to make the scales both the scale are really visible, the plain aluminum its even more pronounced due to the lack of paper backing. I painted the baits using transparent paint and thinned out even more, after the baits are painted the scales really kind of disappear. I am thinking either not to paint the scales and just do the back/shoulder and belie to hide the seams, or just a very light coat of transparent paint on the aluminum sides. Looking for some suggestions Gino
  7. I pulled both sights and you are right the other material is thicker. I did find the AmacoArtEmboss Thanks Gino
  8. Thank you for the info Jim. I logged on to Amazon and they have quite a selection of colors Gino
  9. Hey Guys I used the silver aluminum foil, my first foil bait to boot, it worked out beautifully. I sealed the foil seams with thinned out Devcon 2-ton the seams did not come through when I painted the bait. I done a golden walleye pattern and I followed Ben and Musky Glen advised used the sunrise yellow to get the gold effect worked perfect. To finish the bait I sprayed the back with Createx gold than shaded the bait with transparent black very thin. Got the job done Thanks again fellow bait builders Gino
  10. Thanks Bob I tried the same, google it and no one seems to stock it. I am going to use the HVAC alluminum duct tape, it's good stuff and easy to work with. I just wanted to try some of the gold foil Gino
  11. I searched this site and tried suggested suppliers, seems like that Venture tape is not making any of the foil tapes, only strips of tape. I cannot even find just the silver foil. Anyone that has a current supplier for the BriteBak foil please help out Gino
  12. A top view of this bait to show the coffing type lip. this bait hunts about two feet, not by design Gino
  13. Made these two baits for my coming trip to St.Clair. The bodies are 4 inches long by 1 inch diameter at the widest with 2/0 hooks on these baits. Stainless steel lip 1.5 inches long by 1.5 inches wide. The coffing style diving bait lip has a real nice hunting about 2 feet side to side, not by design, just got lucky, very cool. these are a take off from Bomber style lures Gino

  18. I have built many musky glide baits with grea success, musky guys they are looking for a foot/second sink rate. I have been using Vodkaman sytem for couple of years and it works great very accurate (Thank You Dave) I have purchased a beaker that is graduated in MM and is 3 inches By 20.5 inches toll, I use this beaker to find how much ballast I need. I also molded a all bunch of weights from .5 grams 20 grams with wire hook on them, I will hook this weights from the belie of the bait until I get the sink rate I am looking for, I have also done suspending baits using this system. You can also make a balancing a scale to balance the bait or find the attitude of the bait, like perfectly level or nose down etc. etc. When you this with a balancing scale you must find the center of balance or gravity of the blank before you add any hardware. I made a wish bone wire hangar that I hang the bait from the back at the center of balance than when I had the hardware and ballast everything is balanced from the marked center of gravity that was established earlier. Some day when I have more time with the help of a friend I will do a tutorial, I have learned so much from this site that I would love to give back and make some new builders their bait building more fun. On one note by figuring things on your own will teach so much more, but I always looking for some good tips, and definitely you will find them here Gino
  19. You can find iridescent eye's on e-bay up to 12mm, you can also take silver and black pupil 3 D eyes, than air brush them with pearlized white until the black pupil are barely visible, they come out really nice Gino
  20. Great videos and very informative. You should consider making a DVD on how to paint, with some paint patterns. I would buy it Thank you for sharing Gino
