  1. Everybody know when your pouring jigs you'll get the occasional mishaps. The lead didn't cover or a blank spot on the jig. Its going to happen & over time the bad jigs tend to stack up. My question is, can I melt the lead off the hook & reuse it? I don't know if the heat from the failed pour & the heat to remove the lead would weaken the hook. I've never tried to reuse a hook before, I thought I would get everybody's opinion. Thanks for your replies.
  2. Thanks everybody for your advise. If you say Worth the best then that's the I'll go. That's what I like about this web sight. Ask a question & get a answer. It saves me a lot of time going throw the trail & error of knowing what to buy or if it will work. The swivel I bought yesterday where from DO-It but I think I'll use them on my personal spinnerbaits. Gives me a chance to practice some more on the spinnerbait. Now on to blade selection. Lol... Thanks again everybody.
  3. I think I bought some Worth swivels today. They are pricey. Lol.. I got a pack of 10 from a local store to try. I found a 6 ball bearing swivel @ fishingskrits.com, $8.00 per 10. Has anybody tryed them?? There made by Boss just for Fishingskirts.
  4. Need some advise. I'm starting to experiment with spinnerbaits. The one thing I'm unsure of is swivels. What to look for, what to buy & what size. I only have1 mold, 1/4 & 3/8 C style Do-It Mold. I got .040 R wire & #5 colorado blade. I've been told a #2 size swivel. Would really like some input, the do's & dont's of spinnerbaits. Thank's

    Lead Ban

Whats the latest on the proposed or restriction on lead fish lures? I haven't heard anything since 2010, I was wondering what you have heard.
  6. Thanks everybody, the advise is helpful. I think I'll use the high temp silicon first. I would have never thought duct tape could do that. I've been pouring jig over a year now, I've learned alot but I still have alot to learn. Underground has really helped me out with all my question. Thanks again.
  7. Local tackal store are screaming for the arky jig but here's the catch, They want the wire weed guard. I've heard talk of filling the mold where the Fiber weed guard goes and then cutting a grove for the wire weed guard. I was wondering what I could use to do that. Maybe some advise so I dont messs up the mold to bad. It's a ARK-18Y 1/8oz 4 cavities Y guard & Fiber guard.

    Jig Hook's

I was wondering if the 630 or 635 would fit. Wish they made that in black nickel. Most tackle store don't like a bronze hook. I just modified the mold. I hope I didn't made it worse. Also, I'm going to take cadman advise. I going to start using Mustad 32746. The matzuo hooks break to easy. I'm not saying the Matzuo are bad but I hate to think someone losing a fish because the hook breaks. I've poured alot jigs with Matzuo and only had one break in the vise. These hooks are sharp and they look good on a jig. Thanks everybody

    Jig Hook's

I forgot to add, bending the hook would fix the problem but the Matzuo hooks do break. That makes wounder if I should use them at all.

    Jig Hook's

Thanks' everybody for your help. I'll try to answer some of your questions. I did smoke the mold before I started pouring.I do flux the lead and skim the top often. I preheat the mold before pouring. I have to work outside so keeping the hooks warm is a challenge for now. Warmer weather is setting in. The hook recommendation stamp on the mold are every pricey. Of course using Gamakatsu 604 or Mustad 32798 BLN Would fix my problem. Maybe the next best thing would be finding a hook like the 604 but at a lower cost. Any suggestions??

Am I better off switching to the 32746??

    Jig Hook's

1/8 oz with a 2/0 hook. I've notice that some hook's (not all) are nearly touching the back of the cavity.

    Jig Hook's

Here's my problem. I've been pouring jig's using a Matzuo 9014 Sickle in a Do It mold SRH-6-18 which is a Shake-it mold and the back side of the jig is not covering. I thought by turning the heat up on my melting pot would cover better. That helped alittle bit. I know what your thinking, that hook is not recommended for this mold. If the Gamakatsu 604 wasn't so expensive I would use that. Right now I'm thinking about changing hook"s. I'm looking at Mustad32746BLN but I would like a second opinion. So please tell me what you think.
  17. Watermelon might be the best choose but I need alittle more brown than green. I've tried pumpkin brown, black and green pumpkin. None of these colors look right. The color I'm trying to match is molting craw. It's a blue gill color. Lite green pumpkin and saphire blue. You can find this color at fishingskirts.com. Take a look and tell me what you think. url="http://fishingskirts.com/product_info.php?cPath=73&products_id=428"]My link[/url]
  18. I need some help mixing lite green pumpkin. I'm using Pro-Tec Powder Paint. Does anybody have the color ratio for lite green pumpkin? I've tried to match other colors and the closes I can see would be Watermelon. Regular Green Pumpkin is to dark, it just doesn't look good on the jig.
  19. As you can tell I'm a newbie, I just started pouring my own jigs. I really can't complain about how they are turning out. Most are good but still get a bad one every now and then. My main reason for this post is clean up. I need some advice on how to clean the lee melting pot. Should I leave the unused lead in the pot or pour it out into something (small cast iron skillet) for storage? Any comments would be helpful.
  20. I've been searching for instruction for a fluid bed. There was alot of information in the forum but I didn't find actual plan. Can someone help me out and point me in the right direction?
