  1. Hey guys, I'm new on here, but i've been making lures for a while, and this website has helped me along the way. I'm now at WPI for college, and once i take a safety course, i'll have full access to a machine shop. All I need to do is provide my own material, and i can do whatever i want. I want to use the CNC machine to make my own two piece aluminium injection molds. Anyone have any experience doing this? Tips would be much appreciated! Thanks - Alex
  2. Hi, My name is Alex and I'm a high school senior. At my school seniors need to work on a project related to their planned college major. My friend and I are going into engineering, and we are building a small cnc machine for cutting blanks like yours. I was wondering if we could exchange emails and if you could help give us some advice. Thanks

  3. I just picked up some filters from my chemistry teacher, Im not sure what they are called, or where you could get them, but they work great
  4. I just put this together today (with the help of all the threads on making fluid beds). Works great, im using brown paper from a lunch bag as my membrane, what do you guys use?
  5. Thanks for the replies, and nice bait psv! I do have a follow up question though. How do i get the eyes to stick if I dont use epoxy. The sticky side of the eye is not strong enough to hold it on. Should I just put a drop of epoxy under the eye to hold it on?
  6. Hey guys. I have been making lures for a while, and am just getting into making spinnerbaits and jigs. I use powder on all my jigs, but I was wondering if this is what i should use for my spinnerbaits as well. So should i powdercoat the spinnerbait or just airbrush it and clear coat it? thanks

    Gold Leaf

Hey guys, just wanted to share a new trick i figured out. My friend gave me a tube of "gold leaf" (its really just copper dust mixed with some sort of petroleum product). The way it works is you rub the paste into something, the oil evaporates, and it just leaves it coated in shiny copper. I made a couple lures with it, and it looks awesome. It is completely paintable, so I faded some black scale pattern onto the top of it and it looks like a golden shiner. I will add pictures in a little while. Im not sure where he got it, but a little research should turn up something. -alex

    Weights

I was wondering what you used to weight your lures, especially smaller lures. I have a few swimbaits all carved now, but they float too high in the water, and i want them to be slow sinking. thanks -alex

    Fumes?

Hi guys, im new here, and new to lure making. I poured my first lures today, a few finesse worms (pics will be up in a few minutes). When I heated the plastic there was smoke coming off it, I was wondering If I should be worried about the fumes, and what I could do about them. thanks
