  1. There is a third way My last Nutty Idea post covered that I think .
  2. If I can make a lure anybody can . Just jump in there . I started with a hickory stick some screen door screw eyes and a couple treble hooks . Course that was so long ago there were no such things as in home computers or cell phones .
  3. Fish know seasonal food and target it . They tend to partially ignore other sources at times . Light weight blades clear or not may not spin as well so I'd use a folded clevis with a metal bead under it to act as a bearing . I'm not real crazy about match the hatch theories but if you use clear blades try to make the bait as close to the minnow color as you can . Fresh water fish see in spectrums of color unlike salt water fish which see somewhere close to our range of vision .
  4. Amen to that 2yrs and still waiting on a curl tail grub.
  5. Mark , that forum is slow as molasses when navigating and you have to load pics from photo bucket or something . The Guys there are great and don't mind poking a little fun at one another .
  6. I'm a member of that forum but I think I got to pass unless they wish to send me one free . LOL
  7. Not only a prayer for your wife but the doctors as well . They have gotten pretty good with that type of thing but I think that they still need a nudge from above . Things are gonna work out Pard .
  8. Of all the lures they could have choosen they pick a senko . Lordy Lordy
  9. Nope my molds already have a wire keeper . The foot ball is another story . I'll mold a skirt collar on the hook shank before I put the hook on the swivel head . Some thing like this . This bait was designed by a friend of mine Don Butler formerly of Okie Bug Tackle in Oklahoma .
  10. Most of the time when I try to use pop . I just wind up saying BAD Words . LOL Guess I'm to impatient .
  11. No templates I know of . But a seamstress could make you a pattern . If any still exist .
  12. Klass Kote , call them up . He'll mix it thick or thin for ya . I get mine in pints or quarts . The stuff is as good as anything you can buy anywhere .
  13. When I can I make old style lures from the same materials that our forefathers used . But there are some things simply not available any more . Like leaded paint . Like my gramps always said , make do , I use what is available even the hair off the butt of the cat if it fits the purpose . If we could bring back some of the great tackle makers now gone. They would go absolutely wild with our stuff now . Human nature never changes . An addiction then is the same as now .
  14. I found one too haven't bought it yet .!!!!!!!!!!! BooWahHa
  15. Think I'll see if I can find one . Got potentiel for being dangerous . Right up my alley . Thanks for the post Jmart21
  16. My lure making started with the first creepy crawler sets on the market and yanking the tail feathers from my moms prize rooster .Had I known then how far ahead of my time I was I may have been a major contender in tackle today . Alas hind sight is 20/20 . Had a business or two but it became a drag . Now I just experiment with out of the box ideas . If its crazy I'm probably game . Hobby yes and no . It is therapy my escape from the humdrum days in my life . It is a quest to do what no senseable man would and yet make it work . Upside I get to let everyone critique my nuttie ideas . Some think I should not be allowed out of my house . Others cheer me on . It's all good and FUN.
  17. Because I don't do production I don't have a need for speed . So I use weed eater line . Smash the end flat cut a V for the hook point to lay in . You also don't have to use all the strands in the multi mono gards if they interfere with hook up . Y guards like the weed eater line can be useless if not fitted properly . That is why I make my own . Wire guards have to be fitted and bent as well or you won't get any better results . Personally I'd rather loose or hang a few jigs with no weed guard as to sacrifice a hook up .
  18. Wish I had that thing . Bazillion Idea just flashed before my eyes .
  19. I would like to see any or all of your present work lure or not . Folkart is something I personally enjoy . It has a personallity and warmth to it that is not found in mass production . Welcome . Ithink you will be a great addition to the forum . May even want to pick your brain now and then because I tinker with a lot of stuff myself .
  20. If I make one I drill it . in the long run it is just as quick and not nearly as frustrating . I use 00 buck shot for weights a lot of the time .
  21. Some times you can visit your local body shop, they throw away partial cans of paint all the time . There is enough paint in those cans to paint quite a few baits . Make a deal to get those . Good stuff to practice with .
  22. I use it on salt water stuff where they prefer a slimer line to the bait . Keep an eye out for tiny suction cups . The things that stick to glass or on the back of matts that go in the bath tub . Makes good flaring devices when you run them on a hook .
  23. Use it .Everything causes cancer . Except women . They just make you wish you were dead .
  24. Some times they will hit a black fly that looks like a mosquito . Shiners will hit it too if you can keep the perch off long enought to get one . I just put a split shot on and kind of jig it .
