  1. OK, got the gist of the whole thing. I think an Rtv hand pour would be a start. Use a standard weighted swim bait hook , slide a paper clip through the eye to hold it out of the mold . slip a swivel onto the shank of the hook let it lay down in the mold. Use a dowel rod or something to hold the point of the hook out of the mold. Then when its poured you should bee able to pop the swivel out of the plastic for treble attachment. Just a thought to help get your gears turning.
  2. What type of mold are you planning on using. Pic would help . Sometimes I can come up with a wacky solution. Probably won't be mass production effective but usually works to some degree.
  3. I have a 1/32 - 1/16 RH mold it has 1/32 on one side and 1/16 on the other . I'd like to see those kind of molds again . Even do barbed and unbarbed foot ball heads in sizes like that. Seems like the custom mold makers are putting most of their effort into plastics. It would be Nice to find someone that did a combo system that matched the custom head with a custom plastic. Say a plastic craw with a lead realistic looking lead jig head/tail. As far as hooks the only kind I don't like are bronze hooks because they corrode easily. Those expensive ones I just have to ignore.
  4. HOO WEE ! Thats generally the size I catch. If it has a head and a tail hanging out on each side of my hand I call that a keeper.

  6. It would be better if you cool the hook in motor oil. Also if you intend to use a lot of hooks hook mfg. will do special runs to give you an open eye hook. Some hooks are currently sold that way now. Check EC and other Mfg.
  7. For those of you who are in the business I STAND CORRECTED on all counts. I've not been in business for more than a decade. Poke a little fun ,have some grins and giggles thats all I do. By the way one of my nutty ideas is for sale in the form of a mold for plastics. Didn't cost the guy a dime to put it into production on my part. I hope in the future to do the same for others As long as I have fun.
  8. MUSTANG WIRE IN OKLAHOMA. 405-787-1684
  9. The best part of NUTTY IDEAS is the fact that you can do something without spending a lot of or any cash and achieve good results. In this day and age The attitude is total instant gratification. Buy it don't build it . This frame of mind hurts ingenuity. I like you folks that think around a problem and take it where no man has gone before . To quote an old star treck phrase . Its what made AMERICA great .
  10. Now that's what I'm talking about. Unsupervised men can do anything. There is always two sides to every coin. Good idea. If you use the bolts put a plastic washer on them. If you use a smooth jaw vise to clamp, fold a piece of card board around the mold before clamping. Protect your molds their like our children or we wouldn't keep letting them in and out of the house. Thanks for posting a nutty idea.
  11. All plastic molds have been sold. Lead keel mold is sold pending payment.
  12. As far as I know he has a good reputation. I know others that have ordered from there as of the moment I've heard no complaints. Sometimes the folks that handle the orders coming in drop the ball.
  13. The stuff I used was just very old lures, no scents, salts or additives. Usable but you better be able to have an exhaust the size of a refrigerator or do it out side. Lesson learned when I first started playing with plastics.
  14. You may run into some plastics 10 yrs old but are new so to speak in the package . Beware some of the older plastics have very noxious fumes. If you get it to hot and breath it it will mess your lungs up . If you handle it with bare hands and happen to rub your eye that won't be pretty either. Harken to the voice of experience. Be careful do as I say not as I've done . WHY ! cause it hurts.

  18. ALL RIGHT BOB, attaboy You can call it the poor mans gun drill.
  19. Not really, I haven't been able to work on anything in several days. I post nutty Ideas in hopes that it generates more nutty ideas from others. In the end I hope to get a few laughs make some friends and see something I started passed on and taken to new heights. I have not been disappointed in either case. Thank for reading it.
  20. I wouldn't use vinyle paint. it will eventually damage the powder.
  21. Personally I like the powder air brush. It will seem like you waste a lot of powder but not really. Because the fluid bed puts it on really thick you will actually use about the same or less with the brush. There is a lot of info on TU about both. It might be good to buy the brush and make your own fluid bed . They are a piece of cake to build.
  22. Since cnc machining has sky rocketed and the number of extremely talented people doing molds with fantastic detail I would'nt get my hopes up. Do-it molds are Great . But they tend not to put to much new stuff out.
  23. I would use high temp rtv for the pop. Lasts a long time. afew drops of water will make the rtv set fast. be sure to dry it well before the lead goes in. As far as the plastic I'd need to see what youare trying to achieve.
  24. Oh heck , powder paint can't be used in anything metal or coated . Glass or ceramic only. and it is difficult to use with any source of heat other than nuking it. Even then it must be stired during the heating cycle. Addressing the unusual appearance seems at this point after disecting the bait the plastic created a honey comd web , not bubbles in the lure. I think that is where the added tensil strength of the lure comes from. At this point thats about all I've had time to conclude. Thanks for the input. Don't forget to post your nutty ideas. Come on guys i'm not the only semi dangerous individual out there. Unsupervised men can do anything.
