  1. I have a Iwata Neo. I use it for base coating & spraying some of the thicker pearl colors. My main gun I for detail or small spray pattern stuff is a Master G22. You can use all 3 needle sizes .02,.03&.05. I've had the Master for almost 2yrs. The Neo for a year. The only problem I've Had with the Neo is finr tuning the air pressure to spray smaller detail lines or patterns.
  2. I use "s" hooks in my rear hook hanger and belly hanger(unless the line tie is in the nose then I connect there). I usually paint my bait and install the lip right after. Once the epoxy is set up then I can use the line tie on the lip and rear hook hanger(as pictured) when I do my top coat. If I make my line ties to small for the "s" hooks to fit then I use 19 guage ss wire "c" shaped. By the way the baits in the pics were done before I started installing my lip after paint. Hope this helps and not confuses. LOL!
  3. I do on certain balsa baits that I make. On some of the others I use screw hangers I make from 19guage stainless steel wire. Do a search, there is a ton of info and opinions/facts on the thru wire construction.

    Foil Tape

Do 2 pieces. It will take practice to get it right. I use a dowel rod to rub the foil with. Do a search on foiled baits and you will get a lot of good info.
  5. Skeeter, it was a hand made bait or so it looks. By who????? dont know. I bought it locally. It had the belly weight hanger combo that you can get from lure parts online. It had a plastic dowel in the rear and had a screw eye for the hanger(that can be purchased at lure parts online as well). One other thing the lip was drilled and line tie placed through the lip and it had lead where the hole was drilled for the wire to go throug the lip. I guess to help it get a little deeper. By the way woodie it doesnt look like a bagley. Thats not to say it isnt, just never seen a Bagley this style.
  6. I appreciate the input from everyone. I enjoy learning about baits. Whether by cutting one apart or building and testing them myself. Hopefully I want cut apart the wrong lure. Meaning one might be worth some money to someone or a bait that was and is super unique and not built anymore.
  7. a white seal coat before? I have a crankbait that was hand built(by who???) and decided to cut it apart. Reason for cutting it apart was the bait seemed to be made from balsa but had a screw eye in the back for hook hanger. I wanted to investigate and see if there was a dowel piece for the screw eye to screw into(there was a dowel). As I started to cut it apart the paint seemed to almost come off in big pieces. The paint was more like chipping off in chunks. There was a white coating that seemed to act as the seal coat and base coat. I tried to scratch it to see if it was painted over epoxy but it would just either chip off or not scratch. Is there a white propionate or did someone mix something in some epoxy or do yall think its plasticoat?
  8. Thanks for the help. Ill keep tinkering.

    Foil Tape

Thanks everyone for the replys and help. Crzyjunyr, thanks for mentioning that tape. I got some and tried it and like it pretty well. And it saved me from having to order online or drive to a somewhat local stained glass shop.
  10. Bassguy, thanks for the response. The bait I built was 2 5/8" long and about 3/8" wide. I believe the ballast and rattle combined is just under a 1/4 oz. Also does cold water have an effect on the rise. Like I stated I test them in my pool. The water temp is probably not much higher than 40 degrees at this time.
  11. I read in one of the many post about pvc that it was quite bouyant. Is this a incorrect statement? I got some AZEK trim board material to try out. Built a small flat sided bait and added about 1/8 oz of ballast and a small rattle in the back portion. Put a lip in it to test it in the pool before doing any finishing stuff. The bait sits nose down and seems to have a super slow rise(not necessarily bad). I havent put any hardware on it yet and sure if I do it will not rise at all but probably sink. Did I buy the wrong board or is my scale off??? Thanks for amy help.

    Foil Tape

Do any of y'all know if the hobby stores sell foil tape? Done a search haven't had good results. Or is ordering it online the best source? Thanks.

    littleriver

Did you brush the orange on? Has a cool looking effect. Lure looks goood as well.
  15. Great tutorial. One thing I did to help with the lead overfill is countersink the top of my holes. Once finished pouring all I do is take a pair of side cutters and cut the excess lead from the coutersunk area off.
  16. Im not an expert but those looks good to me! Nice Job!
  17. Thanks Fishnart. I thought that was correct reguardless of airbrush or paintbrush. Im a little slow on the termanology! Lol! You do awesome work.
  18. When you say "thin washes" are you referring to spraying that spot with a very lite coat then same area dif color lite coat again???
  19. Do the bills have a slightly rounded corner? Well if so you can find them at Janns Netcraft. Catalog refers to them as FG 55 and 60 shallow divers. Theres another one as well FG Shallow Diver. The difference between the 3 is one is 2", another 2 1/4" and 2 1/2". Hope this helps.
  20. Good idea Mark! I might get something and try that out. What would be ideal is to find something thin and strong enough that I could still use my guide for straight cuts without having to remove it.
  21. I got a SKIL brand band saw. The in-laws gave it to me as a christmas gift. It works but thats bout all. I dont like the table/deck on it. It has ribs that run in the straight cut feed direction. So if I want to make curved cuts it makes it a little more difficult cause the ribs want to catch/snag the wood. So I use my scroll saw mostly. I say all this to say dont buy a SKIL.
  22. By the way I use stainless steel 19 guage wire.
  23. Thanks guys for the info. Yeah I didnt know how possible it was and if it was worth the effort. By the way do yall think 19 guage wire would work for the hinges? Instead of purchasing any screw eyes(or other wire)figured I would twist em up myself. Thanks again guys. Lee
  24. whats the smallest swimbait you have built? When I say small I mean 3" or smaller. I have some PVC and want to build some swimbaits using it. My understanding from this forum and others the smaller the bait the harder/ more tedious the build!!!??? I would like to know if you built the bait to perform a certain way and if it did so. Also do you think a bait 3" of smaller will need a bill to make it wobble/ give it the swim action? Thanks for any feed back. Lee

    Dipping Lips

Not until it starts to release from the lip! LOL! Its happened to me. I noticed the bait didnt have the same thump and looked at the line and it was running crooked. Upon inspection I seen the mcu had raised up and causing the bait to run crazy. So now if using mcu I only coat far enough to cover the bait.
