  1. I am so glad you posted this tutorial! Thank you very much! I have already poured several POP molds, but I had one certain mold of a ringed worm that kept coming out with many air bubbles in my plastic when others didn't - know I know the answer! I have already sealed all my molds 2-3 times, but that one obviously needs a little finer attention. Again, thank you!

    2 For 1

I for one am another one that really appreciates the sales. I am just getting started and ordering everything at once can be expensive. I have several POP molds I made, but wanted some aluminum molds for that more professional look. I cannot wait to get them!!!
  3. When I was a taxidermist, I had to use retarder all the time in my paints it just seemed like it always worked best. Airbrushes and paints take a lot of experimenting to get the flow just right.
  4. Yes, taxidermists do mold fish, but usually not crawfish. For crawfish we just injected them with a solution, positioned them on cardboard with T-pins, then let dry and finish with paint, sealer, etc. As for fish, there is tons of info on taxidermy.com on how to mold them. Most likely smaller fish as even with crawdads, a lot of them freeze dry them and use the orginal, but that would not work in this case wanting to mold one to make a bait with.

Frank, thanks for mentioning this sale. I am a newbie and went ahead and ordered some molds. I sure appreciate the "heads up". Thomas

Very nice! Can't wait til I get as far as you.
  7. Nevermind, I did what I was afraid I would have to do - place another order! I bought several MORE items than the softener of course! I think I might need an intervention at some point in this new addiction I have.
  8. I am a newbie and ordered a bunch of stuff from Bears Friday, and thought that I could get some scent/worm oil from the local Academy or Walmart since I forgot to order some. The ones they had did not say if they were oil or water based - I need oil based, right? One was Lunkersauce, don't remember the others. I saw on here where someone uses one from Bass Pro but I'm looking at getting something local for now. In the interim, what can I use as worm oil to coat the worms with once finished and/or do I need to brush some on the mold itself prior to pouring? (POP mold) Thanks for all the help!
  9. Hi Newbie to bait making, but not new to silicone and making molds, etc. because of my former taxidermy career. I can tell you that we make a lot of molds and use a lot of silicone in the taxidermy profession. I can tell you that if tube silicone gets too thick it will not cure all the way through. Looks like with the molds for what I plan to make and others here have made that it will work fine. I was hoping that the use of silicone would be brought up. Thanks for the tips in this thread! Tom
