  1. Hey Dave, I recommend perch, walleye and fire tiger. I just caught a pike on a jointed rapala fire tiger the other day. Let us know how they come out, good luck.
  2. I think cedar is a safe choice , it is light, very buoyant and it is naturally water resistant . I have heard a lot about people using red cedar too. I am glad to hear Poplar works well . I can get end cuts of Polar free from the shop where I work.Hmmmm. Good luck!
  3. I have to tweak the lip a little more but the general idea of jerk baits is to create an erratic fleeing action or stop and go works to. I tested it last week and I need to adjust the diving action. Its goes off to the side to much. The Xrap baits are awesome by the way I love them all. Thanks Again!
  4. Thanks again Deeter. I always enjoy hearing from you.
  5. Yes> another marbled creation.
  6. this is my first jerk bait. I used a circuit board bill and tried out some scrap booking paints.

    3" Popper

This is a test of scale mesh I found at the dollar store. It works pretty good.

    bottle cork baits

There is so much around the house that is overlooked I too love making bottle cork lures. Each one of these 3 lures are awesome. You have inspired me again;)

    Crackle Paint

What a cool effect. Good job!
  11. DSV, I would give it at least a try. There are many kinds of lacquer. You might have to shop around for one that is going to take a beating from fishing extremes. Most lacquers I have seen will yellow over time especially when exposed to the sun. I have been experimenting with this myself and have settled for an outdoor formula spar urethane . I feel like it is less likely the crack or chip than lacquer . I am no expert at this stuff its just what I have been messing around with. If you are concerned with your paints being compatible with lacquer just put a coat of clear acrylic over it as a buffer. Good luck.
  12. When I was about 14 I used bacon and dough balls as my regular at a farm pond. It usually caught catfish and bluegill. I ran out of bait so I started looking around the shore for something to use. I found a very old and weathered ciggarette butt. I joked about using it and my friend convinced me to put it on . I could not stop the blue gill assalt that followed. The fibers of the butt made it hard to remove so I caught a dozen or so before it came off. just strange.

    VANNDALIZER

Nice . I wish I lived near there again.
  14. I have read that Rapala uses this as a top coat . There is a thread about it with a link attached on Surf Talk. Check it out.
  15. Nice trick! I just put a coat of black down and now I know what I want to do. Thanks
  16. Testing of this lure went well. The action is crazy, now I just have to find a pike or muskie.
  17. That is totally it!!! I am so happy about this topic:lol:
  18. This is my first jointed lure. I went 8" because pike are in town since the ice left. I am going to try it out this weekend. I am still tweaking the marbled paint job. I like this pattern but the black would not float properly. I wanted more black stripes. Maybe next time.
  19. I think it is good for extra income unless you go balls to the wall with it and make major investments. I went to a fishing expo a month ago , there is a lot of competition out there. You need to come up with a really great lure that stands out of the crowd and stand behind everything you make. i am going to start selling on e-bay and a local flea market. IF you want it the sky is the limit. Good luck!

    Big MN Bass

Nice fish . Get a new digital scale soon it looks like an 8 pounder.
  21. Nice carving Milia, I wish I had those skills. I carve a little bit to keep things fresh. Some times I take preturned bodies and carve them into my own creations. I have been really playing with colors though. Keep that knife sharp and don't ever stop creating.
  22. Bass!! Large mouth and small mouth. I am a top water freak if you haven't already noticed. The jitter bug is my weapon of choice. I love early morning and sun set top water action. I am going to dedicate a good chunk of this season towards trout and pike too. Fishing is so huge to me. I love it!!!
  23. I guess I was misinformed . Thanks for the correction and saving me the hassle. I was told it would be a good top coat but cost alot of $$$. I am glad I didn't but it yet.
