  7. Howdy. I'm having a little trouble and hoping yall can help. I've been making baits for a while now and have no trouble carving or turning baits but I do have a lot of trouble painting and putting a final coat on. No real trouble actually painting the baits(except for a few splatters), I can't find a good paint that airbrushes and gives that blur effect. Ive been using createx and a water based acrylic bought at HoobyTown USA. I also need a strong clearcoat. Been using polyurethane and it chips easily. I'd like to know what you use and how. Thanks for the help.
  8. Thanks. I'll see if Hobby Lobby has it.

  9. Where do you get your alumilite?

  10. Thanks. But you probably won't find a mold like that. My dad made it off a discontinued bait(aluminum).
  11. Alumilite regular-the first one listed on their "products" page. Comes in tan or black. Says only 250 degrees. Where do you get yours?
  12. I'm starting to make my own soft plastics and i have a few molds, aluminum and plastic, and I made a mold out of wood then coated it with polyurethane...turned out nice but the polyurethane isn't gonna last long under that heat...so i'm gonna try to reproduce the worm i made in that mold with alumilite. The top heat resistance i found on their site is 250 degrees. I know the plastisol is heated to 350 but ive heard of alumilite being used for forms. Will it Work? if you know of any other materials it'll be helpful. thnks
  13. Thanks for the help. I think im gonna try the silicone next.
  14. I was thinking of making a mold, maybe out of two part urethane foam...anybody know where i can find this or another material to make a mold?

    little bluegill

    did you carve that?
  16. If you dont want the hard line of the tape on the bait you can hold it off the bait by putting whatever you use to paint scales(net , mesh,...preferably a metal screen to hold it off farther) and then taping on that. It will give you the natural pattern and hold it off the bait.
  17. Here's a link for an iwata http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/products_id/35361/n/Iwata-HP-CR-Revolution-Airbrush?utm_source=Google-Base&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Product-Feeds
  18. If you arent too against using a "stencil" here's an idea. For one stripe, tear off two pieces of masking tape or painters tape and put them on the bait parallel to each other to form a stipe. The tear pattern make the stripes look more natural and cant be replicated. You can find the "how to" process on one of the topics here.I think it's called "how to make 3D scales" or som thin like that.
  19. Thanks yall. This has helped alot.
  20. I've been using polyurethane as a clearcoat and it's not good enough: it chips easily and yellows. So I'll probably change to Etex ot Devcon 2 ton. Which is better? And if you know where I can get it it will really help.Thnx.
  21. Thanks for the help.I'll try to find some of that stuff.

  22. Hey. I've been seein your lures and they're awesome. What kind of paint and clearcoat do you use?
