Yes, they have to be totally taken apart, painted, cleared and then put back together. I only know how to do the Quantum Pt reels, as I have fished with quantums for the last 20 years. Although I finally do own a Shimano Citica reel, I caught it and a rod, a few months ago, in a lake while fishing. I will do before and after pics on it soon.

I have a 15 gal with 120 psi. I can let it fill up to 120 psi and paint all evening and night with the one fill up.If you have room for the larger compressor, they are a bonus, but if not the smaller ones get the job done.

I like to try some things that I havent ever done, just too see if I can do them. I guess its the challenge of it that makes me want to try it. Its the GREAT GUYS of TU that post all of the AWESOME tutorials, I am still just a student trying to learn new things!!

I was used to taking my quantums apart before I started painting. I always have took them apart to clean, polish and relube every year. I know them inside and out. I am not comfortable doing that with any reel. I have not owned a lot of other types of reels over the years.
