  1. I am gonna try putting one coat of epoxy over the lure before painting, the scales hide the effect of the loofa!
  2. The temp finally got up to 40 in the Midwest so I did some experimenting today. I am fairly sure he painted it with a shower loofa. I pretty much achieved the same scale pattern by using a sewing hoop and stretching it into the proper shape. I was not able to get the white built up on the back of the scale like the original painter did. But I think I'm on the right track. Here's a couple pics for now, my first attempt has been dipped in gst and I will take a pic later. I also believe the lure has to be slick ( no scales) the first one I painted was a ok and had scales, which really detracted from my painted scales.
  3. On the belly shot, it looks like a shower loofa!
  4. The hobby lobby 30 minute is horrible too. Here's what I would start with #1 Bob smith 20 minute epoxy, #2 etex, #3 devcon 30 minute.
  5. If you look at the scales they are offset from row to row. Either he has a secret mesh he shots threw or he paints each scale individually!
  6. I had an old do it mold for small jig heads. I closed the mold and drilled out 1/4" holes to pour my belly weights into.
  7. I tried painting three spoons with it yesterday. They all looked decent, nothing like chrome though. I dipped them in gst and that took all the silver off! I will keep trying though
  8. I do mine in a 65 deg basement they are usually dry in 12 hours!
  9. The 20 minute is great, it's more like etex as far as setting up. But dries rock hard!
  10. I have a hobbytownusa right by my work. So I buy it in the stire
  11. I'm thinking I will spray the spaz stick on and then dip it into gst and let it sit a few days. I've never like epoxy over foil or chrome!
  12. I just bought some. We shall see how it works!
  13. My lowes and Home Depot carry a different brand of PVC. I did not care for either one, my local lumber yard had a 10"x10' piece of Azek for 30$. I like the azek so much better.
  14. same here, white acrylic base coat. And really heat up every coat. No wrinkles!
  15. I've never seen another mesh like that! Maybe it is mesh, but it's really unique looking!
  16. When I tried glueing two halves together I had a problem. When I drilled the hole for the hook hangers and the belly weight, the hole would wander off to one side or the other, because the epoxy was too hard to drill through!
  17. I have another guess! The scale pattern is very unique, so I'm thinking he made a small press out of metal that he pushes into the lure to make each individual scale, he may cover the lure with aluminum to have something to leave a pattern on the lure. Then spay it at an angle?
  18. I will throw in another guess. Base coat was black. Then used netting that was sprayed with tacky glue, to stick it to the lure. Sprayed white at a angle to build up the back of the scales. Then removed the netting! Maybe?
  19. I think the scales are photo finished, and everything else is painted with transparent paints. Great looking lure though!
