  1. So funny. I have never even bought a jerkbait.............until yesterday! I was at Scheels and saw the megabass 110's for 23$ I just could not do it. But I also noticed the RC jerkbait for 8$ so I bought one. It looks exactly like a megabass.
  2. Looks like Folk Art Bronze Metallic to me......! But who knows?
  3. Gino, Hobby Lobby carries etex also. And 40% off is good too!
  4. I buy the large Folk Art paint at Wally World. Its 2.99 for the big bottles. I also get the clear ketchup bottles to store the paint in. I thin it down with a 60% future and 40% water reducer and hve not had any problems doing it this way.
  5. I have been experimenting with the jones tones silver tape. Last night I tried gluing regular foil over the bait and then sealed it on with etex. Today I applied the JT foil and pulled it off. There was a couple small spots that did not stick, but with the foil undercoat it is barely noticable! Rob
  6. Forcepts on line tie......and ya get epoxy in sometimes.
  7. I have one of those. They work fairly well. I just didn't like cleaning out the bottom feed jar after every color. So I bought the neo from HL for 40$ and have been happy with it so far. Only had it for 3 months though!
  8. Just my opinion here. But I would use a wooden dowel as opposed to the drill bit! If th template gets grabbed or flung I would think the dowel would cause minimal damage as opposed to the heavier, sharper drill bit. Rob
  9. Someone said on a previous post, to email dick nite on his real website. Personally, I had th same issues and just gave up. Went back to etex.
  10. Well thanks everyone for the advise. But after experimenting with a few options I have found the best/easiest method for me is to hold the lure on a nail and paint it. Then add hangers and lip, then topcoat. I still get a little epoxy on the lip, but I need to be able to hold the lure by the lip, it just works best for me, that way. Thanks for the tips. Rob
  11. Hobby Lobby has a 40% coupon online. Just print it out and use it!
  12. Here is how I do it. I use the thule you get at hobby stores. Cut a 5 inch piece off the roll. Lay it over the lure. Clamp the thule to the front hook hanger with small hemostats or aligator clips.. then pull the thule tight and clamp the back hanger. Wrap the thule up underneath and clamp onto belly hook with hemostats.

    Painting Pvc

I apply a coat or two of etex, prior to painting.
  14. Well you just helped me fix that problem. Thanks
  15. Its kinda funny you asked this. I just ordered a painted lure from jannsnetcraft. It came looking pretty cose to the lure you posted. However the scales were already falling off, so I attempted to put a coat of etex over just the scaled part. When I checked it in the morning, the etex got flung off the scales and ended up in big globs on the top and bottom of the lure. It was the american shad color
  16. I like to dip my balsa baits in sanding sealer. Sand them baby bottom smooth, and then coat with one coat of etex. Lures come out super smooth. Rob
  17. For me its more about the hobby (addiction)! I have always enjoyed working with wood and making my own crankbaits has allowed me to continue wood working! If i had to guess money wise I probably have not saved a whole lot, simply because I keep trying new things that never really seem to work. Its a fun habit for me!
  18. If you do not have a turn wheel, d2t would work better. However both work best with a turner!
  19. BTW. Lowes and Home Depot in my area (NE) do not carry d2t!
  20. Probably the two most common epoxies are devon two ton (d2t) and envirotex lite (etex). I personally prefer d2t but its hard to find in my area. So I have settled with etex. It takes longer to harden but works well.
  21. Good luck finding that mold! That's a sweet beaver made by Reaction Innovations. And they probably already sent you a nasty letter. I bought one about 3 years ago right after RI decided to protect their design. A bunch of people freaked out and stopped making them, because of the threat of a lawsuit.
  22. I have eperimented with PVC. I started with Azek from HD. It was not as bouyant as the PVC that Lowes sells. My lures are about 2" long and I add .25 grams of lead for the ballast. My first lures I made with the HD Azek. Looked great in the tub, but sank as soon as I put hooks and paint on them. If I was you I would but the hooks on the lure, and then put 3 or 4 paper clips on and see if they still float. That should let you know if they will still work.
  23. Ben, do you drill out the eyes prior to shaping the lure? Or after its sanded down?
  24. Jblaze, thank you. Luck would have it I have one do it mold. And it happens to be a spinnerbait mold. I will try it out and see what happens! Thanks
