  1. My guess is it will swim. But?
  2. Well here is what I found so far. It does not dry rock hard, I can peel it off with my finger nail, and it has a real strong odor. I actually want to try the DN s81 but nobody will respond to my emails. I have sent 3 in the past 2 weeks. Apparently they don't need any business.
  3. Lol, that's piece of pvc that I was messing around with and trying to make a Alabama Rig. I had brushed some nail polish on it a few weeks ago. Its ugly, I know, but it didn't effect the uglyness. Rob
  4. I bought a QT today at Oreillys auto. I am using spray paint white, over a pvc lure. Ad using creatix to do the details. Has anybody tried this top coat or any other lacquer finish. I dipped a piece of pvc in it 6 times and it looks good so far. Just wondering how it will react to paint. Rob
  5. How do you hold your lure on the turner when drying. I have tried aligator clamps, but the etex gets stuck to them. I have tried putting a toothpick in the rear hanger, but that gets stuck too. I am getting tired of my lips looking crappy, so I figured I would put them in last. Any tips? Rob
  6. BTW, I am not saying anything bad about engineers. Some the "techy talk" I actually enjoy reading, it teaches me a lot about why some lures do not swim right. Rob
  7. My own opinion is this. I find a lure I like, trace around it, cut out a piece of balsa, sand it down, add a lip and weght, coat it and test it in the bath tub. I know this hobby can get very technical, and people are doing and building some amzing lures here on TU. But to build a normal 2" crank its pretty easy. Swimbaits, are totally different, it seems you need to be a rocket scientist to build one of those. JMHO
  8. I have noticed in recent years, that the sporting departments have shrunk here at our local WalMarts (Omaha). However some have more than others. Some sell ice gear, tree stands, ad nice bait casters. While others only sell the basic stuff.
  9. Go to the Member submitted tutorial section. There is a good PVC swimbait tutorial. Good luck
  10. When I use a stencil, I use hemostats to hold onto the bill or hook hanger. Then put hemostats into a bench clamp
  11. I was actually thinking a single hook, no trebles. My thought was to mount the hook hanger sideways on the belly. Which would allow the hook to hang parallel to the body. Thanks, Rob
  12. Has anybody ever built a single hook crank? I have been wondering if it would work. For me it would be more for the cost, and I hate trying to unhook a fish with two sets of trebles. Would it be better with a hook in the front, or just one in the rear?
  13. BTW, does anybody know where I could buy two plastic bottles like the ones in my pic. I hate how the etex runs down the sides of the bottles.
  14. Well I tried it, and I was not happy with the results. It ended up being very bumpy and a lot of air bubbles. I put it on bare wood as a sealer and on a white lure as a top coat. Will stick with etex for now.
  15. Eewwww....that sounds cool. Where would someone find mixol dye?
  16. I am kinda confused, I have tried etex and d2t, and both seem to yellow on white colors. So I saw this and figured I would try it too. I will coat a white lure tonight and see what happens. Sounds like some think its bob smith and some say not! Thanks for the tips though, I guess the best way to find out is to try it.
  17. It says distributed by hobbylobby, nothing about Bob Smith.
  18. Has anybody tried it? If so, what were the results? It looks just like Devcon. I found it in the Remote Control area, and bought it with my 40% off coupon.
  19. I have had good success making cranks for some buddies that have the NU logo on em. I just spray paint some tin foil white. Copy a small logo onto tissue paper, and spra glue the logo to the white foil.
  20. Thanks all for the help. I will try the basswood, on my next baits. I seem to catch a lot of fish when I jerk the lure and let it rise. But mine are shootin up pretty quick. And don't look right. Rob
  21. Thanks guys for the help. I like the action of the cranks, but when they stop they rise to quick. So I think I will just up the belly weight to 5 grams and see what happens. Rob
  22. I have made some balsa cranks and love the action but they seem like they float way to much. When I top reeling they rise up pretty quick! I have been adding 4..5 grams of lead to a small 2" lure. After top coat and paints the lures weigh about 10 grams. Has anybody tested a piece of balsa to find out exactly how much weight it takes to sink. Like 2 grams. of balsa requires X amount of lead. I was going to get a 2 gram lure, weight without top coat. Then coat it and attatch weight until it just barely floated which would tell me exactly how much lead to add per gram of balsa. If anyone knows it would save me a ton of time. Thanks, Rob
  23. That is so true......I watched the video and was thinking how every one of his videos is so entertaining! Thanks for the videos Diemai.
