  1. Really? He is talking about when you pour a swimbait and it shrinks, causing it to be concave. And if yu overflow it you have to trim it for 20 minutes to make it look decent. I have the same problems. Rob
  2. I made a caulk rtv mold last week and it worked great. The only problem I see with using it for a swimbait, would be pushing it down into the silicone, seems like it would smash the tail down, and cast it at an odd angle. But I don't know for sure.
  3. I am an amateur, so take this with a grain of salt. I was trying to match GY pumpkin. I thought bears amber was a dead match, but I was told by TU members to go with rootbeer. Well when my colors arrived both colrs were way off. One to dark, one to light. So..........I mixed em together, 10 drops of each in 3/4 cup of plastic and 3 tbsp of salt with a dash of green and black glitter. And the color was dead on. However, I had the same issue you have. I could not see through my bait, like I could with the GY bait. I believe, the more drops of colorant you add, the harder it is to get a transparent bait. So I backed the drops back to 7 drops of each, and added one drop of red. Also, I lowered the amount of glitter, and it is a dead match now. So try what was stated above, fewere drops of watermelon and add one drop of a darker color, it should help. Also, I believe GY uses the sugar flakes to add weight and keep the transparent look. Good luck, Rob
  4. I use Calhouns soft plastic. I add 2 tbsp of salt per every 1/2cup of plastic. And they weigh the same as a senko. But I have dels stick mold which is very similar to a senko. I do not use softner and the stick is I tad stiffer than agy, but I do not sell many baits. I only sell to friends. Bears stick that I had 2 years ago was much smaller diameter than dels.
  5. I simply let the sticks cool for a few hours, spray a bag with a little spray canola oil, and put a few drops of bears scents and lay the sticks flat.
  6. I know this is an old thread, but I had been trying to find a way to make an inexpensive RTV mold for a long time with very poor results. But yesterday. Found this thread and it worked fantastic. So I figured I would say thanks to Husky for this great info.
  7. This is what I ordered two years ago and have been satisfied. All from Bears. 2.5 gallons Calhoun soft plastic. 4oz of clolorants shad red, watermelon, green pumpkin, white, black, june bug, and chartreuse. Glitter was black, red, green, gold, and silver. Salt I just buy at the store and grind it. Every once in a while I fish with smeone who has a color they are smoking thefish with. So I just take a picture of it and mix colors til I get it close. Good luck
  8. Thanks, I was thinking this color frm bears its amber
  9. Anybody know how to make this color? A guy outfished me 4 to 1 with this color today and I wanna make some, Thanks Rob
  10. Thanks Bilky, I still have the two little pieces, I cut off, and will probably jb weld them back on to have the sprue again. I guess 1 out of 3 good pours is better than 1 out of 10. And I have actually had a couple offers from people to nuy it like it is. I can't find this mold anywhere, and it is not going anywhere, even if it pours horrible. Thanks everyone for the tips. Rob
  11. Well I went and grinded the air slots with a dremel and it seemed to help. But it took me about and hour and a half to get 20 useable baits for fishing today. Here are some pics. The mold is a creature mold that I have been told is copyrighted, and supposedly I am not allowed to reproduce. So that's why I am reluctant to post pics. I know I am paranoid but hey, its my favorite lure. Rob
  12. Thanks, bassgeek, there are really small air vents. But I was thinking since it is an injection mold the vents were made really small. I may have to take my dremel and cut off disk and make airlines bigger..Rob
  13. The mold in the pic is not my mold. But it has the same pour type hole. What I did was cut the part off on the right side of the pic. About 1/4 inch. My thinking was I could bypass the 90 deg turn, and just pour the plastic straight down the hole.. but apparently that does not work. Rob
  14. Only having 3 molds, made it difficult for me to inject. The time it took to clean the mold after erery time I shot it didn't add up for me. So I sold injector and just pour. Much less headache adcleanup. I don't pour much, so just made life simpler. I will take pics tonight. No clue how to post though. Rob
  15. Hello all, I only have 3 molds and am just a casual pourer, but here is my problem. I bought an injection creature mold, but did not like injecting so I just hand pour. The mold I have has a 90 deg pour spout and usually poured a good bait 1 out of 3 pours. So like an idiot I thought, if I just cut off the top 1/4 of an inch of the mold, I could just pour the plastic straight down the sprue. But boy was I wrong. Now the belly of the lure gets a huge air bubble every time. I am worried I screwed it up. I think I have two options. JB weld the top back on or make the little airlines on the mold bigger. Neither one sounds really good, does anybody have any advise. Rob
  16. Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I only have hard and soft calhouns plastic. Can I put 1/2 hard and 1/2 soft to make medium? Rob
  17. Try this http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/20527-yamamoto-cinnamon-color/
  18. Personally I think what happened was the plastic chunks were not pushed all the way to the bottom and the cup got hotter than the plastic I really don't know for sure. Also it was a anchor brand cup, with the three spouts that holds 1 cup of plastic.
  19. I have been able to achieve that look, but not on a consistant basis. I simply heat and dip the jig in powder. Then quickly flick the tip of a small cheap paint brush that has been dipped in the second color. It will generally create that look. Rob
  20. Be extremely careful when remelting old plastics. they will explode in a pyrex cup if a little virgin plastic is not added. I had a cup explode last week when I forgot to add some new plastic to the pile of old baits. Rob
  21. I put my hands on a megabass 110 yesterday at Scheels. A buddy works there and absolutely swears they are the greatest lure ever. The paint jobs on those things is absolutely astonishing. I swore I would never pay 25$ for a lure ever!!!!!! But oh my gosh, those things look crazy good!!!!!!
  22. Thanks, just wanted to make sure. A little birdie told me the same thing the other day. But just wanted verification. Rob
