  1. Snapping Neck, I guess you get all of the solid water you care for in Michigan. We have a year round musky season in NC. Usually we can fish for them the year round. Musky Glenn
  2. In western NC frozen lakes just don't happen often. That caught me totally off guard. Round trip, 2.5 hours of driving time. Just thought I would share that with you all. Musky Glenn
  3. I have a question concerning Photobucket. When I choose the photo I want to show here which option do I use. 1. email & im 2. Direct 3. html 4. img On some post the photo shows up and that is what I want. But on some post there is a link that leads to all my photobucket photo's. I don't know which option to us, or is there a better way. Musky Glenn
  4. I went to my favorite lake in NC Sat. and couldn't get the blades to spin on my bucktail. I believe the clevis is to small for the wire shaft. Musky Glenn http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd58/muskyglenn/100_3475_zpsd077940e.jpg
  5. That tire happened in Oct. when we were doing the yearly musky stocking. It was still holding air. Musky Glenn
  6. Below is a photo of a white $16.00 spool of lumaflex. Lumaflex stretches about three times it's on length when pulled. I set the spool on the floor and use the wire frame shown to wind loosely about 40 strands. I tie each 40 strands in the middle then cut the ends loose. I usually make about a dozen skirts before I make spinner baits. The spools are 2 inches in dia and 6.5 inches long. There is approx. 7/16 of thread on the spool and that is "many" feet of thread. It goes a long ways. The brushes I use for epoxy is shown in the packs that I buy for $1.00 per pack at our local Dollar Tree store. Also shown is my Iwata hp-e2 airbrush that I just can't get the hang of using. There isn't anything wrong with the gun, the problem is all me. I just can't get used to controling air and paint at the same time. I use a single action gun and that works best for me. I would like to trade this Iwata for a good single action airbrush. 7. Mark, you are dead on. That second from left is just like the spinnerbaits I make. I usually use two gold blades but really can't tell the difference. Bass Craft is our local supplier for ready made SB. The spool is a cardboard tube about the size of two rolls of toilet paper stacked on top of each other. Instead of paper it would have 1/2" of "fine" lumaflex. I took a wire coat hanger and made a Y shaped frame out of it so that it would fit into my electric drill. I turn the drill on slow and count about 40 strands or 20 revolutions. I tie the middle of the wraps then cut the ends seperate. I use nylon thread to tie them on the spinner bait and coat the thread with clear finger nail polish. I use 40 strands of white and mix in 8 chart. strands. Of all the post that I have made on this site, this is the most important information I have had the honor of sharing with each of you. You really owe it to your self to try a few of those spinner baits. Musky Glenn
  8. I just stick the eyes on any way that will hold them until the epoxy is applied right over the top of the eyes. It doesn't have to be sealed under the eye. Musky Glenn
  9. I stand the wire shaft straight up in my fly tying vise. That way I have both hands free to handle parts especially when putting two blades together where you use clevises that overlap each other half way. First clevis-first leg on shaft, second clevis-first leg on shaft, first clevis-second leg on shaft, second clevis-second leg on shaft. Nothing to it but still not fast. Musky Glenn
  10. Round nose pliers gets my vote. Musky Glenn
  11. My first thought was that the Krylon might be lacquer based and reacting with the water based Createx. Musky Glenn
  12. My name is Glenn and I am a lureaholic. I'm 68 been married 49 years with two grown daughters. I am President of the Western NC Muskie Club out of Asheville, NC. I live in Marion NC and am retired form teaching cabinetmaking and construction trades at McDowell Technical Comm. College. I love all phases of lure making. I love to whittle/turn lures but hate the process of weighting them. I mostly do repaints, make spinnerbaits and bucktails. I go by Musky Glenn
  13. Today was a great day for me. I found a reliable source for my favorite skirt material on a spinner bait. Lumaflex/spandex what ever you want to call it. Supreme Corp. has it and knows it by lumaflex. They have a small spool of it that measures 2" in Dia. by 8" long and the material is approx 1/2" deep on that spool. The price of that small spool is $16.00. Lumaflex is a thread on a spool that you cut to length to your specs. I shape a coat hanger into Y shape that I can put into my drill and turn it 40 times at slow speed for each skirt. I then add 8 strands of char. to the 40 strands of white. This makes the best char/white skirt for 1/4 and 3/8 oz. spinnerbaits that I have ever used. I don't know how many yds. come on one of these spools but it is much cheaper than buying it already made up into skirts. I am in no way involved with this company, just sharing the address for materials of a good spinner bait skirt. They do not list the material on their web site. Just give them a call or drop by if in the Conover area of NC. Musky Glenn Supreme Corp. 325 Spencer Rd. Conover NC 888-604-6975
  14. A musky lure is one that is attached to a musky leader. Size has nothing to do with the ability to fool a musky. A lot of early season muskies are caught by walleye fishermen. .041" will work for hook hangers, just use epoxy when you install them. I have caught 16 muskies on 1/4oz. spinner baits. I used that spinner bait because I could also catch bass at the same time. On a good day musky fishing is slow fishing and that kept me at it longer. I have caught five muskies on Bill Norman deep little N, most trolling. If you want to look at a good source for true musky lures do a search for "musky shop" Their catalogue is approx. 1/4 as thick as the big Bass Pro Shop and it is nearly all lures. You just don't realize how big the musky market is up North. Wish North Carolina had a musky shop. This is just my $.02 worth. Musky Glenn
  15. The information is still relavent for those browsing the site. Musky Glenn
  16. Check out www.tinboats.net they have some great projects with photo's of project boats of alum. Musky Glenn
  17. Check out www.tinboats.net they do some nice stuff and no fiberglass to worry with. Musky Glenn
  18. All the lures where I have epoxied over foil have dulled the foil to some degree. That is still the best "chrome" that I can achieve for myself. I have tried rattle cans and can't get as much shine as foil. Musky Glenn
  19. Google "wood turning blanks" and you will get a number of different suppliers. Musky Glenn
  20. .035 is not that large of a ss wire if you are using round nose pliers. If another loop like the one in the end of the wire won't work what other requirements are there for the attachment? What would be the ideal attachment for your application? Does it need to hold the hook straight in line with the wire so it doesn't wobble? Help us understand what you need it to do. Musky Glenn
  21. Glad you found the problem. Hardest problem to solve is that one of a kind problem where there is no past experience to learn from. Look forward to seeing some of your work. Musky Glenn
  22. 1. To close, move away so it doesn't leave any then work in closer 2. To slow, go fast so it doesn't leave any then start slowing down 3. To much pressure, try 5-10 pounds of pressure and increase as needed. Could be a combination of all of them. Your paint is not to dry or thick.
  23. I don't understand why the need for heavier wire. It looks to me like regardless of the weight you would want to scrape bottom the same or the lead will just start dragging. It is also very likely that I am just wrong. Musky Glenn
  24. I like the closed loop so the snap doesn't slide down against the blades. I really like .029 for vibration, forget about how long they last. They just catch more fish (for me). Do you know how bad a 1/4 oz. spinner bait looks after it catches a 20 # musky? That is just the price we pay. Musky Glenn
