  1. I tried to match a certain color for a Hell Hound this past week. When I started to mix the d2t I wanted to add some green glitter to it and spilled to much glitter into the finish. As it turned out it was way to green for the pattern that I wanted. I raised 4 muskies on that lure this past Sat. Didn't catch a one of them, but the color is right even if it isn't what I was looking for. Colors look so much different when you apply the clear coat I seldom start over. But then I just paint for my self. Musky Glenn
  2. It's now down to about $3.39 here in western North Carolina, USA.
  3. RayburnGuy, I didn't mean to imply that the originals had lead. I have never bought an original and was referring to my copy which I did use lead. Crankpaint. They have to tumble one time at least- from their position on the back cast, to the position on the forward cast. That is where a lot of my tangles happen. Musky Glenn

    fishsticks

    Great looking lures.

    Amazon "A

That looks like a good musky color also.
  6. From a guy that really likes to musky fish, I can tell you that a striper will do just as much damage as a musky. They also fight harder. Lakes in SC have some really good stripers so you should have plenty of fish to work out any bugs that you will need to worry about. SC also has some muskies in the Broad River area of upstate. The Green River leaves Lake Adger in NC, which is stocked with the muskies that end up in SC. Some where the river changes names to Broad River and that holds the SC state record, approx. 24 pounds or so. Lake Adger in Polk County in NC is probably the closest water with numerous muskies. Muskies are the fish of 10,000 cast so don't expect a lot of action like can happen with Stripers. I fish Adger on a semi regular bases, so if you want the free guided tour just get in touch. Bring a hand full of your swim baits and we will give them a try. Musky Glenn
  7. I also make my own and I had trouble with the rig tumbling on the cast. I eliminated the lead where the wires join and just twisted them together and that helped a bunch with the tumbling. I still get some tangles as it is hard to stop all the tumbling which causes the arms to grab any type of line that is used. A lob cast so the rig doesn't tumble is the secret. The best rig that I have made used a "Pop rivet" shell and crimped around the wires to hold them in place. (This was from Larry Dahlburgs site, sorry for the spelling) Thumbing the spool during the cast helps keep the jigs leading the line tie, which is what will stop the tumbling. I doubt these thoughts are even worth $.02 but they are the best I have got. That Alabama rig is a killer, worth figuring out!
  8. My first 63 muskies were caught using no leader at all. I thought I didn't need it, then I had three muskies cut me off. I started using a steel leader and the strikes didn't drop off. I haven't had a line/leader failure since. Caught my 92 musky today on a Shallow Invader, 36 inches. Lake Rhodhiss in North Carolina.
  9. Seeking 54, I was basing my opinion on one single experience, that of a fellow musky club member. He was trolling on Lake Adger here in North Carolina and lost a mid 40 inch musky on Flor. A piece of the flor was brought to the next club meeting. I have nothing else to base my comment on. I always thought that flor. would allow for more strikes. Musky Glenn
  10. If you want a soft net for scales you really should try "hair netting". They are stretchy, stay placed, and conform to any shape. They also give a nice design. Best thing I have used for small baits. Musky Glenn
  11. It has come back down to $3.79. Seems odd how coming down to 3.79 is better than going up to 3.79 was. Musky Glenn
  12. Flourocarbon is a lost musky waiting to happen. Musky Glenn
  13. I agree with counter weighting the body. I believe if it isn't heavy on one side the whole lure will spin. Musky Glenn
  14. I have been retired for a while now and don't have any "off" time. Retirement was meant for me. I fish three days a week and work on the honey do list some and "tinker" the rest of the time. But I still don't have the patience to make a swim bait and work out all the bugs. I appreciate all the work you guys do on such wonderful master pieces as you produce. 15. Anyone know of a mold similar to the rapala ice jig which have hooks coming out each end and the bottom with the line tie in the middle top. 1/4 oz. size would be my choice. I can't find one close to that. Musky Glenn
  16. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder--- mine aren't that pretty but they work very nicely. I just twist wire and don't try to cover the twist with anything. Quick and easy and ugly. Musky Glenn
  17. Those are all good answers, but sometimes it is easier on old equiptment to go straight to the component with a battery and bypass any switches and wiring to see if the Light or aeroator is actually good. Just my $.02 worth. Musky Glenn
  18. Which type ring is coming loose, the slip rings or the screw type. I would guess that the cork under the reel seat has compressed so that there is not enough friction on top of the reel foot. Maybe shim the reel foot between the cork and the reel foot. Just a thought. Musky Glenn
  19. I want it for musky size lures like double blade number 10's. Even Alabama rigs are hard to pull when large jig heads are used. I remember one thing about Lance Armstrong's bikes was that he used a lower gear than most because he could peddle faster with less effort than using a higher gear ratio at a slower speed. The effort in reeling number 10 blades is so much easier with 3.8 gears than higher gears. I have been using 3.8 for three years now and they are still quite. I'm using them in an ambassadeur 5501 left hand reel. Interesting side note, right hand gears will fit in a left hand reel, but as soon as you turn the handle the pressure disengauges the small pinion gear from the spool. Low gears are just so much easier to crank. I believe Daiwa used to make a 3.8 gear ratio reel. I have a couple in the right hand model, but only the one 5501 left hand which I prefer. I have been thinking about the 7001 garcia's, but don't know if I can take the added weight of those reels. This is strickly casting situations. Thanks to all you guys for the help. Musky Glenn
  20. Thanks BobP, I'll give them a try. Musky Glenn
  21. I would like to have slower speed gears for the 5501 left hand Garcia reels. Does anyone know if the Revo Toro winch gears are a fit for the 5501 (left hand) I would love to have the 3.8 to 1, which they don't make anymore, or would settle for the 4.7 to 1. Anyone want to sell a 3.8 to 1 left hand reel, any brand. Musky Glenn
  22. Wood has some odd characteristics which show up as wood reacts with moisture, water or chemical. As wood absorbs moisture it swells, as it dries it shrinks. Keep this in mind when choosing your piece of wood to carve or when you lay the heat to your paints. I would think that the sealer that dries the quickest without penitration would be the best if it meets all the other requirements. Musky Glenn
  23. Great looking bait, hope it performs well for you. I know that pictures can be deceiving and I sure can be wrong, but the wood grain just doesn't look like Oak. I would guess Maple or Cherry. Then it could just be me being wrong again. Still a great looking bait. Wish I had that kind of patience. Musky Glenn
  24. RayburnGuy, You need to schedule yourself a trip to Tenn, NC or one of the other southern states that have good populations of muskies and give them a try sometime. If you are ever in NC just let me know. I don't believe I could stand the excitement of a night strike from a musky. Daytime is all I can stand. When they blow up at boat side it will really start your heart pumping. The figure eight at boat side is a wreck waiting to happen. We call it"practicing our looking cool move", when in reality all we are doing is trying to hang on and stay in the boat. I have caught one musky here this year on March the 8th. It was 39" and 18#. They have to be 42" to be legal here, but I release all mine anyway.
