  1. I used silver glitter and it worked fine. The glitter starts to settle to the bottom after awhile so you have to stir it up.
  2. Yeah RG, Climb aboard and give this stuff a try. I really like the speed of curing this stuff. I have had really good luck using it as a seal coat on wood blanks. Still in the trial stages of liking it as a top coat. I hope it is not as brittle as D2T or it won't work as a top coat for my musky lures. I had a pike bite into on of my lures top coated with D2T and it was too brittle and chipped. So I quit using it and moved onto Etex. I will have to try Solarez this summer, too HARD to cast a lure in MN this time of year. CLM
  3. Been getting this message alot today. More than ever!! Very frustrating!! Been trying to respond to posts been when I go to post I get this message and lose everything I type. CLM
  4. Mark, I assume you hold the lure horizontal then with the bill up when you dip it? I make bigger lures 6" and up. I will need to find something to put the solarez in that is big enough for my lures. CLM
  5. I am definitely liking Solarez as a seal coat. I brush a quick coat on and let it soak into the wood then rebrush with another coat. Then I put under the light for 3-4 minutes to cure. I sand lightly and it is ready for paint. I was using etex or d2t but had to wait about 8 hours to sand lightly and paint. Still not sure about Solarez as a top coat. I have coated a couple of lures and I'm not to sure about the finish. I am having some leveling issues. Etex seems to self-level better. Also I get a glossier finish with etex. I would use Solarez for myself if I wanted to fish a lure quicker. Still have to see how it holds up to musky and pike teeth though. Hard water in MN so I will have to wait till summer. As of now if I were to sell my lures I would use etex as a top coat. I feel you get that more store bought look with etex then you do with solarez. I will still keep trying solarez as a top coat in the future to see if I can get a better finish. CLM
  6. When dipping crankbaits with lips installed do you cover the lip with something? Tape? CLM
  7. Wal-mart has that bulb. So does menards, a home building supply store should also carry them. CLM
  8. Received mine from Fed ex. It took awhile to get it. CLM

  10. I was using egg sinkers now I use water gremlin pencil lead wire. It is 1/4 inch diameter and I get it at fleet farm. CLM

  13. Ben, Your info helped alot. Thank you.. Scott
  14. The one I am using is working just fine. The only problem I am having is I am getting some minor brush marks in the resin when it cures. I might be applying too thin of a coat??? I am still messing with the curing process to get a a glossier finish. CLM
  15. I have been seeing what I think is brush marks in topcoat after curing. Lure looks fine before I add light to it. I am brushing on alittle thinner because I was having sagging issues before. I even rotate the lure awhile before I turn on the light. I am using an acid brush to coat the lure. Has anybody else ran into this problem? Maybe I am brushing on too thin now? CLM
  16. I actually got the bulb at menards along with a hardwire fixture for the bulb. I'm at Walmart right now and they have the black light bulb. It's around $9.
  17. Original finish was wearing off so I sanded down and repainted.
  18. Well I tried out my Solarez Gloss Resin. There will be some learning curves with it just like anything else. My first coat I brushed too much on and it sagged alittle before it cured. Brushing on less (a thin coat) should work better. I ended up putting on two more coats and it went better. It didn't completely cover my sagging issue from the first coat. I put gold glitter in the resin and mixed it up for the first coat. After two more coats it covered the glitter and my flat eyes just fine. It doesn't have as nice of a gloss finish to it as etex does. I think it is from the wax rising to the surface during curing that gives it more of a dull finish. I tried the 30 second light on light off idea. I wonder if you could use a rubbing/polishing compound to give it more of a shine? I don't think the fish will mind either way!! I am using a GE 18" (F15T8) black light and it cures the resin in 3 minutes. The resin does have a smell to it. It reminds me of being back in plastics class in high school. I think DN has a stronger smell than this stuff. The 2" ice fishing jig below has the Solarez on it. I didn't put enough ballast inside it so it floats. I will have to add an external weight to it if I want to fish it. Probably to the treble. I like what I see so far with this stuff but the real test will be how it holds up to musky teeth!! CLM
  19. Finally got my gloss resin today. I'm going to let it warm up to room temp and give it a try. I hope it works for me like it seems to be working for everybody else. I will post my results.
  20. I don't think it matters. Where you put the weights could differ depending on the shape and size of a lure. What it really gets done to is putting the weights in the right spot to get the best action out of a certain lure. Alot of trial and error. When you change a weight location only make one change at a time and keep notes. Eventually you will find what works best. CLM
  21. If you are mixing equal parts and mixing properly you might have old d2t. I had some for over a year and it became tacky. I just use it for gluing in hardware. I brought some new d2t and didn't have a problem. If your surface is tacky and you can't rough the surface with sandpaper just mix up some more d2t. It will adhere fine to the surface.
  22. I tried the low voc and couldn't get the surface to dry. It was always tacky. Solarez thought I had a bad batch. I decided to switch to the gloss resin but I'm still waiting for it in the mail. I believe cougarftd is using the gloss resin.
  23. What are you using to heat set? Heat gun or hair dryer? CLM
