What is it your customers want? Are they going to buy enough to offset the cost of new molds, colorant, glitter, plastisol, shipping, labor? I got thousands in molds, glitter, colorant, plastisol. and I'll grantee you what ever somebody calls and wants, I wont have it made.lol I just make lures for fun. Tried the whole biz thing. Took all the fun out reel quick.

Spoke with customer service rep for Diawa today. Super nice guy. Got everything done and my parts on the way. They have really good customer service.

:pissed:I recently ordered some parts from him for an old Diawa I'm trying to repair for a friend. Since placing the order almost two weeks ago the only thing that has changed is my credit card has been billed. I've tried calling, and sent several emails and cannot get any kind of response. Have any of you guys ever ordered from him? I have sent emails to some of the other dealers on the diawa site and all they can tell me atleast the 2 out of ten that responded is "we sell reels not work on them". Never thought two gears would be this hard to get. Diawa wont help unless I fill out a credit app and become a dealer.

You can also check out mikesreelrepair. he has hundreds of schematics with the part numbers for all the parts. Quantums usually fail either in the bearings or the bushings that align everything. There cheaper reels use a lot of plastic bushings which you can just swap out with the stainless ones either from another quantum. But I have had to use some ABU bushings and alittle dremel work to get everything smooth.

The majority of my reels are quantums. If it has not been apart in a while you may have to depress the lever and then lightly tap the side plate with a rubber mallet to get it freed up. Had several energy PT's that I reworked for a friend and I had to beat every side plate off. But these reels hadn't been into in 6 years.

A lot of good information here. I believe the question that started all this was could it be done. Short answer is yes, if you are willing to do all that is needed to be done to make it work. The only thing I don't understand is why is it that every time somebody ask about buying in bulk, producing in bulk, or selling lures it all goes to a tax debate? I understand this is information that would be needed if the person moved forward with there business plans, but dang. Some of you all make it sound like the first time he makes a lure the helicopters are going to start circling, or if he sells a $2.00 lure to his best friend the guys in the black suburban's are going to roll up and slam him on the ground. If you choose to make it a business then yes you will need to do all the same things any other business does. accountants, marketing, employees, payroll, overhead.

I just got a bottle of this and want to clean up my old grips and coat them. Does anybody know how long this stuff takes to cure? I have built several rods and have a rod lathe, but I have about 14 rod grips to do. Didn't want to start late and be up half the night.lol

I just got a bottle of watermelon from lure craft. It says on it "new formula" this stuff is more like bears emerald green not watermelon. Anybody else seen this?

Don't sell yourself short. Figure up your material cost, plastic/glitter/colorant/bags/labels and the time it will take you to make them. If your price is higher then the commercial brands so be it. If they work and you offer something they cant get any were else then it is what it is. I have a local guy that I make a particular three color craw for, and it takes some time to make these. I charge him $2.50 a piece for a little 3.50" craw and he buys them 50 at a time, at least twice a summer. One night I had a couple local tourney guys coming by to pick up some lures, just as a joke I told them that they were the last I could do because the colorant was no longer available. When the bidding war got to $65.00 for the "last" bag of 10 of them I let them know I was just messing with there heads. I build custom rods for myself and several others also that cost a lot more then store bought rods, one guy I had stopped by probably ten times in a year talking about me building him one. Finally he said do it, and has bought 12 from me since. I guess what I'm saying is "never sacrifice quality for quick cash". But there are times when I'm stuck in the shop making lures when I would rather be on the trolling motor. Be carful what you ask for you might just get it. LOL

I read a story in there a few years back about one of the elites, I don't remember which one now but he was upset because he didn't know if he would have the money to fish the next year. I remember in the article it said they talked to him at his 40 acre ranch, sitting out side of his 40' 1/4 million dollar RV, while his kid played in his 21' 80K bass boat hooked to his brand new 50k tundra. And I'm supposed to feel bad for him? I sent an e-mail to the lady whom wrote the article and she was very nice and have talked to her several times since. I think she really understood what I was saying, the guys that don't eat lunch all week so they have entry fees for the week tourney is what made BASS. Not Toyota. JMO.

I've been making lures for the last ten years all that you have heard here is true! I have gave away thousands of lures, and sold hundreds. "not a good business profile here" Lure making is more addictive then drugs for sure, trust me if I never made another lure and used a bag or two a day from now on I would probably die long before I ran out. I have several big green totes I got at wallmart every time my wife has to move one she complains that I need to get rid of some of these lures. She hasn't realized that there are 12 of them between the house and the shop. LOL I'm a lure junkie!

Cooler temps as said before and make sure they are both about the same temp so they flow even.

I think I talked to this guy once, seemed real helpful. If it is him and I remmeber right he has a machine that will pop a lure out every 45 seconds, i think it was made by a guy in FL and runs around 15K.

I think im talking about the same thing here the stuff I tried was called diamond somthing, it was an almost clear milky like thick liquid almost a jell, I picked it up at micheals and tried it. It went on smooth and could thin with aceatone but it never set up I kept some baits hanging for over 6 months and it wasnt tacky but you could peel it off with your finger nail. I never water tested it. Now I may have gotten a bad jar I dont know, but what I experienced wasnt good, I just went back to DT-2.
