  1. Green-Fingers they do have Peacock Bass in Florida but if I had the choice it would deffinetly be to make the trip to Brazil. Just something about catching those fish in their native surroundings in the Amazon Jungle would be such an awesome adventure. My wife and I looked into making the trip when we got married 12 years ago and it was just over $9,000 to go down there and have 4 days of fishing. Maybe one day.............Joe
  2. Thanks guys. I tear up pieces of green masking tape to make the stencils for the black bars and I mixed some sun rise yellow createx with satin gold pearl for the the smaller outlining stripes and tail spot. Then just dip a tooth pick in the sun rise gold mix and trace the edge of the stripes and tail spots. I like that when using this method it gives the gold lines some irregularities that you don't seem to get when sprayed through a stencil. When using the tooth picks you can also trim the tip off to give you a slightly larger line when painting. Be carefull using the tooth picks as to not dig into the paint on the lure. I would assume a very fine paint brush would work to but I just like using the tooth picks for this. Thanks again guys and ya'll feel free to help yourself painting any of these patterns and let me know if I can help in any way........Joe

  5. Thanks A Mac. There's so many different variations in the pics I found online of these fish I don't think you can really get this pattern to right or to wrong. Lot of fun to paint it.......Joe

  11. I read a few articles on tackle making. com on color theory and things that trigger strikes a while back and they say one of the biggest strike trigger is the lures eyes. According to them and some other folks the pupils size draws more stikes than the actual size of the eyes. The article says large pupils represent prey and a smaller pupil represents a predator. I'm not sure what to think but it does seem logical. Maybe that's why some of the high end crankbaits seem to produce better such as the LC's. They have the 3-d eyes with the very large pupils. But like y'all said when a bass gets ready to taste something I'm not sure they take a bunch of time to look to see if your lure has big pupils. And talking to a fish would definitely be a big help for sure........Joe

    Tennessee Shad

Thanks Brent. It does have a very lite transparent greenish tint to it. The original kvd 1.5 Tennessee Shad is painted with some kinda iridescent pearl on the sides and belly and I don't have any iridescent paint so I had to improvise. Definitely going to order some of those paints this week. Hopefully the guys that wanted these will like em. If not I guess they'll be hanging up in my shop for a while.......
  13. Thanks man!! Working on making a logo that will be put on the side in that big red empty spot. Still got lots of shading and adding highlights and shadows to get it how I want it to look. Don't think this will ever get wet......toooo many hours in it. Probably a display on my mantle. lol. Thanks again .......... Joe
  14. I think these came pretty good but I have to repair a bug in the finish ........... Da!n I got knats on me!! LoL ......... I will be putting a bug deterrent in my shop beside my clear coat wheel......Joe

    Tennessee Shad

Painted several of these for some guys fishing Lake Gaston. It was a copy of the kvd 1.5 Tennessee Shad. The belly isn't blue it's just the reflection from my shirt on the pearl paint.......Joe
  16. This is the bait I mentioned in the hard bait forum under stencil making. Although I also use vacume formed stencils I wanted to show you can use just plane on masking tape to make stencils as well. On this particular bait I am "trying "the to go for a riveted look, kinda like an old airplane . All stencil work was done will green masking tape. On these 1.5's you use another blank and stick the tape on, press it down around the 3-d details and gently trace the gills or which ever part of the bait and trim the tape with a sharp exacto knife. Make sure you heat set your paint well or it could come up with the tape when removed. Now I need some advice for thinning white createx paint to get it to be not so grainy. Also advice on adding a light source effect to the paint job.Any ideas??? This part of airbrushing is new to me. Thanks........Joe
  17. Good job on the stencils. I have the same set that you do and it is very tricky to get both sides perfect. Haven't found a good method for making it exact yet. I've been doing some stencils by just cutting them out of my green masking tape and it seems a little easier for some patterns to get it just right....fins and shad spots mostly and also some "different" patterns. I've got one almost finshed that all the stencils were made using masking tape. I'll put the pic in the gallery and show you what I talking about......Don't laugh at the bait when I post it, It's not finshed and I'm trying to paint outside of my skill level...........Joe

    Rapala

I was using a sandable primer at one point but createx didn't stick to it very well. I have used d2t 30min for repairs before was just wondering what other options I had to choose from that set up a little faster. I get alittle impatient sometimes..lol Thanks Rayburn.........Joe
