Thank you cali. I have learned a whole bunch from all the TU members that take the time to share do’s and do nots of lure painting. This place really is the best tackle building site there is. Thanks again...........Joe

    Rapala

Thanks BBM. Got a bunch of these old twitch raps laying around I need to get some paint on since speck season is in full swing around here. Not sure if you can see the deep scratches toward the tail of bait but what would one do to fill these in? Wood putty? They don't bother me on my pesonal lures like this one but if the boys in neighbourhood bring em to me as beat up as this one was I would like to make em smooth again. Thanks again guys.........Joe

Spent all day painting cranks for everyone else so I figured I'd paint one for myself ...Bourbon Street Perch. Pearl blue fade to purple down the back. Chartreuse sides blended between the bars and down to the belly which is bright orange. Ripped up some masking tape for the perch patterns and sprayed them with createx pineapple then outlined with a few passes of some thinned black. Not sure if it'll catch a fish but just felt like something a little different .........Joe

    Chub!!!

If you think bass fisherman are bad about hiding info you should see the speckled trout fisherman around here! I usually am pretty good about sharing tips, tricks and locations to most of the anglers I run into. Heck I know some guys who won't even buy fishing lures if there are other folks in the tackle shop for fear of someone seeing that "magic" lure........Joe

    Chub!!!

That's funny! lol...my buddy went down there with one of the guys in his bass club. I stayed back in NC and got the the play by play over the phone each day. I know that the St Johns River was the place they started at but not sure if they stayed there the entire time. They fished for 7 days and he said the wind blew about 20-25 everyday .

    Chub!!!

He tried to but the batteries went dead in the digital scale he has. He took some measurements but I haven't talked with him to see what they came out to be. My guess is its 9-10 lbs. The one he caught just after was a little smaller, probably around 8- 8.5lbs. I was glad to see him finally catch a few good ones. I have landed more than my share of trophy bass over the years while he's been fishing with me. These came from Florida in the St.Johns River...I think......Joe

    Chub!!!

My buddy's biggest to date so far. Caught another the same size on the very next cast. He only caught 4 bass all day but when you catch 2 this size I don't think it matters how many you caught..........Joe

    Pencil Jerks

Picked up these little blanks online. Painted them in some of the preferred speckled trout colors for my neck of the woods. I think they're LC ko's. They work pretty good. They sink about 1ft per second and 2 1/2" long........Joe

    11" Glideator

    Two for one special!!!! Nice
  18. How many coats of s81 can be applied? I mainly saltwater fish and need a little more tooth protection from the sea critters . About 99% of my lures are suspending jerk/twitch baits and etex changes the sink rate a little more than I like. Was going to order some DN a while back but the timing was not good and with that discount I don't think I'll wait any longer. Sorry not trying to steal the thread, just curious. Thanks .........Joe
  19. If you type in "cisco" in the search bar for the hard bait gallery it brings up some pretty cool cisco patterns. Maybe use those to help get an idea and then pull up some reference photos online from the body of water that the lure will be used in the most to match the hatch. Sorry but I haven't got got any paint tips for I have never painted a Cisco..........never seen one either. Lol...........Joe

    Tiger Bream

I just checked out the 6th sense bait and it does look a lot like my pattern. A little more subtle and realistic but close. Wish I could paint like that guy, he's got some serious skills..............Joe
  21. Still waiting for my med bills from my recent surgery. Figure I better buy some supplies now to hold me over for a while before they get here Thanks again..................Joe
  22. Thanks guys. Stretcher66 I have been checking Ebay and hadn't seen this kit up there before. Don't know why it wasn't coming up in my search but thanks for the link. $318 with free shipping is a deal!!!.........Joe
  23. Looking to purchase one of the large pro series Auto Air paint kits tomorrow. Does anyone know the best place to order these? I have checked a few places and the going rate seems to be around $400. The kits I've been looking at have 36 bottles of paint and the proper reducers included. If anybody knows of a better deal let me know. Another thing I was curious about is I keep reading about baits that have "Gem Dust" in the clear coat. Is this just ultra fine glitter that can be sprayed or something else? Thanks for any info. Tight lines!..............Joe
