  1. LC has a Lee pot for melting plastic & Bears has Presto Pots. I would really welcome some advice on the advantages of one over the other. My wife actually ordered me a Lee but we got the lead melter IV instead. I assume thta is too hot for plastic. Thank you for your advice and assistance
  2. Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) works well for thinning most epoxies. Sherwin Williams also sells several epoxy reducers with different affects on the wetting properties of most epoxies. If temperature becomes and issue also look at MIAK or MIBK, typically used to reduce vinyls but effective for slowing or speeding reaction times, respectively.
  3. Thanks again for the help. I will get some.
  4. Is a mold release spray a good idea for jig heads that will be painted? I have heard that "blacking" the cavity by holding it above a candle works also. Thanks for the advice.
  5. 32" to 39" is probably the range you want to look at. I would pick 33" or 36" based on the stool height you use and how long your legs are. I am setting up my garage to do some woodworking, jig & plastic bait making for my own amusement. I just ordered these workbench legs so that I could adjust the height for my work desk http://www.grizzly.com/products/Adjustable-Height-Legs-34-/G9924 Hope that helps
  6. Can you tell us who "Ted" is with?
  7. Is the purpose of the stretchy material to add durability to the bait or does it have another purpose?
  8. Who do you think make the most realistic crawdad mold? Something akin to the the Huddlebug in 2" to 5"? I don't see the color in shelf baits that really "match the hatch" for the crawdads I see on upper Tablerock. They change color through the season and I would love to try to match some of them in an ultra-realistic bait. At the very least it will keep me busy this winter Thank you for all of the help provided on this forum. .

  11. Have they had anything in them before?
  12. I was looking at jig molds and saw that Do-It makes a "Grave Digger" Jig Mold but I have never used or seen one before. Anyone have any experience with these jigs? Are they for walleye or bass? Thanks
  13. Where could a guy get a custom jig mold made? This would be for pouring a modified lead-head Arkie type jig.

  15. I fished with a fellow last week that makes his own plastic baits and he makes a translucent bait with a some purple color in it that he told me he gets by making the glitter/flake bleed some of its colorant out. He told me this only happens at a certain temperature. He was kind enough to give me some to try and if they work I will buy them from him, of course, but I was curious if only that color bleeds or if they all will. If so what temperature does this happen at?
  16. Thanks, guys. I will try those.
  17. I am looking for a mold to duplicate the Zoom Lil' Critter Craw. Suggestions appreciated.

    aluminum worm mold

    how long is the worm?
  19. Looks good. I may copy that idea!
  20. I don't think I understand. Are you saying let the tip of the injector rest in the hot plastic for a while before I try to draw it up into the injector? Right now the injector just wont draw the liquid up out of the cup. The plastic only stays hot for a short period after taking it out of the microwave. I am using an infrared thermometer and pulling it out of the microwave between 325 and 350 but it does cool and start to harden pretty quickly. I did just get some new plastic so that may change.
  21. I am just getting started making baits and just bought someone elses "kit" and have made a few hand pours. The injector I have (Del's) won't pick up the hot plastic. I expect that the O-ring is wore out? It doesn't look like Del sells the parts. Can anyone tell me how to get this thing working and/or where to get a new O-ring? Am also planning to get a dual injector and an "eyedropshot" mold from BT. Is the 3 oz per side big enough for that? Thanks.
