Your welcome my friend. Thank you for your kind words. I Hope it catches you something nice one day. Dave, I suggest you get those lures in the mail soon. Sadly this is the only one Dieter liked out of the dozen or so I sent, so you had better send a few if you want to make the cut.

Here is how I cut it. http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/24139-tackleunderground-hardbait-tip-of-the-day/page__st__20 Works well for lexan too but the G-10 cuts like butter.

Thank you for the dimensions Gene. Mine is a good inch longer and a 1/4 inch taller taller. Width and the shape are only things the same. The bib placement on such a short bait is even more curious to me now. What is the action like? I will send you a pm with the addy. Tater Hog Can't speak for Gene but this Winston Churchill quote came to my mind “We can always count on the Americans to do the right thing, after they have exhausted all the other possibilities.” It is just more fun.

I like the idea and still make some baits with two line ties but have to agree with Know it All for most fishermen it is over kill. First they have to decide where and when to go fishing. Then pick out just the right lure for the situation an of course the right color. Now that all that is settled it is time to tie that baby on. OHHH great!! Now which line to use? They are probably thinking if the guy who made this d thing does not know what action is going to work how am I to know?

Hello Gene I am just discovering for myself the fish catching power of this style of bait. An oldie but a goodie for sure. I like your jingle. I was carving a rapala floater at the time but this wider hump back bait turned out the result. After looking at baits I realized the rebel floater is what I have carved. Not sure the dimesions of my carving will match the real thing but I would like to know how the real bait sets in the water. Where is the waterline on the bait . This along with the appx center of gravity will give me a good idea of how much and where to weight my bait. Thank you.

Has anyone built one of these before? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Rebel-Floater-Rainbow-Trout-crankbaits-fishing-lures-Old-Tackle-Box-Bagley-/150847742502?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231f39e226#ht_500wt_951 I carved one recently by accident and after seeing this I am going to finish the shape just like this rebel floater pictured. But weight placement is the only question left. Any ideas? With the bib so far back on this short bait leaves little room. I am guessing at the lowest point and in the center. The Bait is similar in design to Rapala floaters and most likely weighted the same? Anyone taken one of theses apart? Hate to destroy another bait . LR

Smokey, I have never seen the waddle bats but will be making myself one now that you have shown me one. Thank you for sharing. That bait has some crazy action. Really like it. What is true hunting and what is not is hard to pin down, if you ask me. Ask ten people and get ten different answers. The waddle looks to be doing some hunting to me. Though it may not be same style of hunting another hunter may display. If you ever seen a beagle with his nose to the ground after a rabbit you'll know exactly what i mean. No two beagles hunt exactly the same but the premise is the same. Mark , hoping this link will work. At the 1:30 mark, the Bagley comes sliding in from the top right dead stick and just as it approaches the camera kicks out to wobble again. LR
-
Try this one Mark . A bit slower. In a few frames the Bagley can be seen coming from deadstick to wobble. Not sure this link will work. Skeeter I agree with you and Bob. The weight is swinging around and throwing the bait off course but this kind of erratic action might just get a bass to strike.

Here is a video of an original Bagley I shot nearly a year ago. I had a wire with a lead weight on the end of this bait instead of the usual hook. The lure had has a really nice wobble to dead stick action. The action can be seen in the video. When the lure would hit dead stick it would slide out one direction or the other. The action could be induced into the lure at will with speed and back again to normal wobble. I think each bait will have it's own reaction to the added weight on the rear bait. Whether this change in action is good or bad I suppose that will be up to the fish. Might be fun to play with till one bites.

Left Lure In Hot Car... Finish Bubbled... Doh!
littleriver replied to bluetickhound's topic in Hard Baits
Mark , I initially thought it was a weak seal coat. But BTH says he is sealing with epoxy. That would make one think the problem may be in the paint between the layers of epoxy. Personally experienced bubble back baits with a variety of woods, before I stopped making the same mistake(thick coats of paint and sealer with inadequate dry time) LOL. Musky Glenn, No worries mate. No offense taken. Thank you for all you share. I have bought many cedar bricks and had no idea what the wax on the end was for till your post. Thank you! My first post was less than informative and even misleading. But the microwave is a good fairly quick way to remove water from wood. I have even heard of folks storing their lumber in the attic space of their home to dry faster. LR -

Musky Glenn, I would not say your wrong but the dry time will vary greatly with the size of the piece, type of wood and exactly how wet is it. As a southerner , I am naturally prone to exaggeration . Please forgive me. Here is a link describing the microwave drying method for wood I am referring to for those interested. http://www3.sympatico.ca/3jdw8/microwavedrying.htm When working with wood from the yard, I sometimes finds this a useful. littleriver replied to bluetickhound's topic in Hard Baits
A short 1 min trip trip through the microwave would virtually guarantee no moisture was left in a piece of wood before one seals it . Though honestly, I never do it myself unless the wood I am working with is known to be wet. -
Great Information Bob ! Thank you for taking the time to make us all smarter. Never heard of the paste before but I will be looking for it now. Thank you! LR

BTH What are you sealing the wood with? I had some problems with this early one. I was not letting the wood sealer or my base coat dry. I was dipping lures with multiple coats upon one another to hide imperfections. Bad idea. Now I wait 24 hours between all coats. Also was told by another balsa lure builder that several of his baits did what you describe. He traced the problem to high humidity. The wood itself was acting like a sponge. He now only seals his baits in the morning while the humidity is at it's lowest point and the problem went away. He told me what he considered a safe humidity range but i have since forgotten. -
A second coat worked for me. If your worried about the action, make it a thin second coat. How is the action now? Just kidding.........been there myself. Really need to figure why it did not cure the first time. Either the mix ratio is off or the mixing was inadequate.

We fish at night this time of year . The biggest problem we have is many fish are caught deep and even more people have no idea on how deflate the air bladder on these fish. Many summer bass are lost due to ignorance. i see these fish floundering around the docks this time of year. I deflate them when i see them. Still pisses me off .......
