  1. Hi Rob My choice of the bit was more to do with what i had than what was ideal. Honestly this cheap HF bit is way more useful now than it ever was as a drill bit. Also like to say I have never had the jig get away from me but I guess it could happen. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
  2. Hi Woodenfeather I took a bit of what you said and came up with this jig. Even made a bib with it. Very stable and not tippy at all. Like your use of of round over bit as well. Thanks you for sharing. Here is some photos of my jig made from your idea. Something I think would make this better would be to use two key shafts or key with a different shape besides round so the the template cannot turn while cutting bib.
  3. HI Rowingadubay It needs to be thick enough for the bearing to ride on and mount a handle. Should the bit grab the piece and throw it from your hand while feeding it into the blade, your fingers very quickly become the template being cut.
  4. John I find it less scary than it may look. Very limited blade exposure. Very small cutting surface. When it grabs it throws your hand and template away from blade. The grabbing is preventable by keeping the template flat while engaged with blade. And work in a counter clockwise motion. Follow these two rules and it is really is a smooth operation. Not wanting to down play the danger but neither hype it ; If you touch the blade you are cut like anything else in the shop just faster. The only question is how deep and wide is it. So do not touch the blade. The template photoed is the smallest bib I make and it made it in a cinch with ease. However, I believe a smoother, slicker surface would be even better. Ben Looks like formica would be a good choice but the cost is too high. maybe I'll see a counter top on the street from a remodel some day. I think Laminate flooring would be too rough. Still looking. Thank you Ben. Vic
  5. Sweet shape and paint. Nice!!
  6. Thanks Mick What does the web page say exactly? Vic Ok here is what came from your suggestions. I have to say I felt ten fold safer using and still just as easy to use. Thank you gentlemen! Any ideas on what to put on work bench to reduce friction and not muck up bib?
  7. Mark, I hear your concerns and understand them having used this method. You have given me an idea. I will post it as soon as i can make it. Thank you. My father is a retired butcher by trade. He severed both index fingers with a band saw. He still has them but not much movement with the pins and arthritis that has set in.
  8. Have you guys ever done anything like this for the get together? http://www.reelfoot....at_reelfoot.htm Just thought it might be something fun, not too expensive and enough room for everyone.

  12. Here is a little meat courtesy of long time contributor Lincoya. Thank you Gene for this gem! Here is a photo of my own cobbled setup. My own cheap router is now mounted under the bench with what I had available and is now a dedicated bib maker. Still need to cleanup this mount but working well. I cannot over emphasize how easy this was and what a huge time saver it is. I can make ten bibs in the time it used to take to make one. The results are perfect and exactly the same every time. Very powerful stuff. It is important to work bib in a counter clockwise rotation as Gene demonstrates. Try going the other way and it will tend to grab. I found slowest speed was best for me because if it did grab was much easier to control template. Also felt safer with bit just exposed enough to do the job. Finally , I chose to leave backing on lexan. No clean up required and sticks well to template. Littleriver

  14. "I have caught several fish with the first unpainted proto, including a 5Lb toothy bawal and the bait handled itself flawlessly. Incidentally, my first fish on my own lures, can you believe it!" Dave the barrel twist through loop sounds like a solid solution. I looked up the bawal. Flat sided fish can really put up a fight. A five pounder would have been great fun. Congratulations! I would say your endanger of liking to fish if this keeps up. Are you using a white base coat proto or a nudie? Might try some simple patterns as well. Like red and white; a classic fishing color pattern. Vic

If gets more real Brad you will have to store your baits in aquarium. I like it!

Have you ever tried to swim one of these supersize baits behind the boat?

If they are both spinning the same direction, the bait may want to spin or set sideways the same direction. If you make one spin the opposite they will counter act one another and the bait should ride more straight up and down through the water.

  20. Biggest fish I ever hooked was a tarpon. Girlfriend of mine at the time took me to see her father. He was a retired big wig from black and decker living in Bradeton Fl. He lived in a gated community on an island right on intercostal water way. We would wave at the sailboats as they floated by. Like any good TN country boy would do; I took my bass gear with me. Never know when the opportunity to wet a hook will arrive. Be prepared is my moto. Anyway, with water everywhere I was chomping at the bit to wet a line. First day by the pool, I kept noticing something big breaking right at the edge of the mango trees growing along the edge of the shoreline line. Off I went to get my gear. I figured nothing stood a chance againt me and my allstar med/ heavy graphite rod with a brand new shimano Curado reel loaded with 50 pound spider wire. I tied on my all time favorite bait pearl white zoom super fluke. Soon the fish was breaking again . I casted just like my dad taught me and bullseyed the break ring. just a couple of twitches and the line was off and moving away fast. I reeled down set it deep. Thats when all hell broke loose. I have never seen a fish so big jump so high and make so much commotion in all my life. I did not know whether to stand my ground or run. After the initial shock, I decided to hold on for the ride. The fish would break then run at will about all I could was hold and pray nothing failed. The only thing saving me was the drag. After several minutes of this, to my surprise the fish finally tired and I was able to guide him to shore. I still had no idea what this animal was but he had gained enough respect I wasn't putting my hands in his mouth. The fish was bigger around than my thigh and longer than I was tall. I decided to let the him swim back out in the bay while my girlfriend ran for the camera. During this brief moment the fish mustered up enough strength for one more trick . He leaped from the water all nearly six feet of him cupped his body then with all his might snapped his head back and this was the last saw of him as he broke my 50lb spider wire. The next day in same spot I hooked another one( maybe the same one for all I know) on a rapala minnow. My favorite one at that . He showed me same trick . Never did get the photo...... or the fish.............
  21. Bassguy if your going to share a photo at least include a few closeups. That tips chart you have hanging is just out of view like a big tease. I can't read a thing.

Juice Nice looking bait. Really like your wire twisting on those prop hangers. Very nice! Do both props (front and back) spin the same direction? If they do, you should be able to reverse the angle of deflection of one of the props and reverse the spin direction.
