  1. Just start with a microwave. Heat your plastic at 30 seconds, mix well, then repeat at 30 seconds, stir, till you are ready to shoot.. once you figure out your microwave you will be able to heat faster..
  2. Hey Ben......I don't personally mix my own rootbeer.. I shoot different layers to achieve it. I use createx paints. First I shoot a Pearl Pineapple, then a light coat of Transparent Sunrise yellow, then a light coat of Transparent Light Brown... you can shoot the Sunrise a little heavier for a deeper rootbeer..
  3. I agree with going fluorocarbon.. I have hauled in about everything with them and had no issues..
  4. If you have a lathe or access to a lathe they are easy to make... I always use eye hooks in thefront and rear, and hook hangers on the body... to finish them I seal the wood with a sanding sealer. Then heat set each paint layer and finish with Devcon two ton... Smithwick still makes a Devil Horse. That's where I got my design to copy off of.
  5. If u use a microwave for heating plastic, make sure you don't use any metal flake glitter...
  6. Beeswax is great. I also use plastalina clay. Van Aken, and Prima are two good ones. They are oil based clays that don't dry out and actually get better with age. If you making molds with RTV silicone you wont even need a release agent...
  7. I pretty much always use popsicle sticks. I like the wide craft style sticks. If you hold it at a good angle it gives a great teardrop effect.. blows the toothbrush effect outta the water..
  8. There are a pile of them on eBay. Unfortunately most sellers don't list the rpm. If your looking for around 6 rpm you may check out microwave motors. They pretty much all run around 6... my first homemade dryer was made with a microwave motor...
  9. I pretty much use nothing but Createx... I thin them slightly with a bit of water and future floor polish. Createx is pretty thick so for best results you will probably want to thin... one thing to keep in mind especially if usuing pearlized, the Colors will look pretty bland. But once you get your clear coat on they will pop... it is definitely best to heat set each layer with a heat gun, hair dryer etc... Just experiment and have fun with it...
  10. Hey there.. new to This site.. but I have been making my own lures for quite some time... one of the best things to do is practice. I know that sounds lame but that's the best way to get a God feel for the process.. I like to start with my base color that I want my overall lure to have.. then build off of that. Usually darks over lights. I definitely agree with heat setting if using createx. And my final clear coat is usually devcon two ton.. had great results with it...
