  3. I like to paint several baits at the same time so I use a halagen work light to heat set/dry my paint. When you are doing several baits at the same time it's alot easier to paint one set it in front of the light and grab the next bait.
  4. Sorry I missed this post. Please post again if there will be more.I would love to meet other local lure makers.
  5. I use redwood for all of my crankbaits. It is easy to work with and has great action. And if you get termites in your tackle box they will not eat them.
  6. Go to page 3.And look for the thread Cutting slot for diving lip.Mark Poulson and the gang have your answers there
  7. I use an Iwata hp-bcs.But my next brush will be a Iwata eclipse hp-cs,It is a gravity feed brush with a 35mm nozzle for more detailed work.
  8. Welcome to TU.Get the best airbrush you can afford, don't forget the 40% off coupon for hobby lobby.I can't help with the dvd.Get some old lures and start painting. And keep reading here.Check out ebay for paint, you can find some great deals.
  9. So the number of posts indicacts your skill level .Or my right to post my opinion.
  10. Hey 52nd, did you read my post? I said this site is about learning and sharing.IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE ANSWER DON'T RESPOND! And yes I have lots of chutzpah.
  11. This thread has been driving me crazy for days! This site is for sharing and learning. If you have nothing positive to add please stay away.yes there is a learning curve and yes you can learn from your mistakes.I made my first bait in 1980.So I payed my dues. If I can help anybody on this site i will.If not I just go to the next thread.
  12. Janns netcraft has a nice selection of pre cut circuit board bills.
  13. Mark, I think the single large ball is the way to go.I build my baits with a hollow belly for rattles.Sometimes I use lead shot for the rattle, sometimes a single large split shot. The baits with the single split shot tend to hunt. All of my work is free hand so I don't know for sure if it is the large single rattle or just a fluke.
  14. Streamdancing, Get a coping saw, bench top vice, small wood rasp, utility knife and sand paper. That should get you started. Then you can upgrade to the power tools one at a time.
  15. I don't sharpen them but I do check them through out the day.A few months back I was fishing a jig and got hung up.A couple of quick snaps of the rod popped it loose and I continued to fish it. After two missed fish I checked the lure and the hook was gone.I guess it broke off when it was pulled loose from the snag.So always check your hooks ,especialy after a snag.
  16. I have two bamboo poles that belonged to my grandfather. They are in fair shape and I would like to preserve them .I would also like to know about them, one says Crown, made in Japan and is 5pcs,the other says Grampus& co. inc Tokyo Japan.
  17. Gene, I'm in if you can put it together .I did it last year and got some great lures. They have never been fished, couldn't risk losing them.when you make your own lures you realy appreciate other peoples work.Hope we can do it again. Bob
  18. OK, Canada in the summer,Florida in the winter.Rub it in some more.ENVY. This is a great place welcome aboard.
  19. After 35 years of bass fishing it finaly happend.I caught two keeper bass on one cast. The best part was it was on a crankbait that I made.My friend said I am no longer welcome on his boat, sure hope he was kidding. How many of you have had this happen?Hope you all are having a great day.I did.
  20. It's 3.99 a gallon here in Louisville KY.But i'm lucky,the small lake I fish is only 1 mile from home.

  23. They are stainless steel wire.Search barrel twist in the search feature at the top of the page.It will give you all the info you need.I wish I could describe it but I am just learning how to do it myself.
  24. Great topic! I think the term hand made is used very loose'ly.Where is the line between hand made and hand assembled. You can buy pre-cut bodies, bills and screweyes.Put them together and some will call that hand made.I make all my bodies by hand.No power tools. And thanks to this site I will be making my own screw eyes and bills soon.Do'nt give up on your lure because of one failure it will get easier. You can do it!
  25. Why all the fuss about this rig? I thought we were in this for innovation not duplaction.
