  1. I roll my lures at night also...with Etex. The nightly temps here (s Louisiana) have gotten maybe 8-10 degrees on the average lower than they were during late summer. It has really caused the "drying" time to change. Where it took 2-3 hours before I could remove from the wheel and hang a month ago...it now takes prolly 5-6 hours. I just let 'em roll all night. Envirotex works best for my particular needs, so, I can put up with these minor changes. I've found that, on my foiled lures, I can control the rate of fall on some lures by the amount of Etex I use. Usually, the "sweet spot" is a matter of one more (or less) thin coat. The thing with this epoxy is...you can make the coats as light as you want w/o compromising the makeup of the epoxy by using too much thinner. For the final coat...I use KBS Diamond Finish. I've tried all the rest and it works best for me. Dick Nite without the storage issues.
  2. This kinda crap is inexcusable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A simple email response might have cleared up everything. Instead....it looks like a shady deal. I don't blame the OP one bit for feeling ripped off!!!!! This happens to me...they're toast!!!!!
  3. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Tried a couple ways to turn it and nothing would hold. The clamps would either spin on the bar, or, the other end would turn loose of the spoon. So,I dipped it in the mcu and held my breath. I let the glue dry for 24 hours before doing so and I can't see any signs of a reaction. If I do these lures for the guy...guess this is the route I'll use. Just have to put multiple coats.
  4. A dude in AZ wants me to foil some vertical jiggin' spoons for him. He sent one for me to try. I got the foiling done and realized that I now have a problem.....attaching it to my lure turner. This thing is 6 3/4" long, 2" wide and weighs (I'd guess) 3-5 oz. It's flat on the underside and rolled in somewhat of a lure shape on the top. Has a hole drilled in each end. How in the world am I gonna attach this thing for turning. I wanted to use epoxy for the first coat because I'm afraid of how my moisture cure urethane might react to the glue. Any ideas from you engineers and such? Thanks
  5. I wish I could do that. Looks great.

Aren't most Dupli-Color products lacquer-based? Not really familiar with it. If so, be careful because Rustoleum is not.
  7. The TU tutorial helped me tremendously when I first began. Plus, I bugged the carp out of a couple members until I finally got a grasp on the basics. Nothing like hands-on for the real learning, tho. I started out with the decal paper but went to foiling exclusively a short while later. I use Open Office for prepping my photos. This program is free and it is about as simple as it gets. Simple works for me. I use an HP Ink Jet printer and have never had any issues. If I can offer any assistance...just holler.
  8. I've just never felt like I was in control using any adhesive-backed foil. I foil prolly an average of 12-20 lures every week and I do it the old-fashioned way....household foil and Loctite Spray Adhesive. I spray the foil for one side of a lure, let it sit a couple minutes (time varies depending on temp) and, after spraying the other side, I apply the first. After that's done I do the other side. Allowing the glue to tack gives me enough time to roll out all wrinkles, but, it also allows me to reposition the foil if need be. If I didn't wait those few minutes....Loctite will set immediately and permanently on contact. Everyone should do what they're comfortable with, tho.
  9. I've tried most all of 'em and the one I like best is Etex, as epoxies go.. Like Bob said, there's the lengthy cure time, but, I like how thin it is. Allows me to put an added coat without altering the performance of the lure. After the epoxy I always use KBS Diamond for the final finish.
  10. This thread alone should show just how informative TU is. Had I not ran across it....chances are I'd have never laid eyes on an airbrush.
  11. Ben, I'm now using my second quart of KBS. I didn't have any problems with the first quart stiffening up until 6 weeks or so of using it 3-4 times per week. Brad told me to thin it about 20% and it did just fine. I didn't thin it until it started getting stiff. After coating you can dip again as soon as the previous coat tacks off. I've used Devcon and hated it. It's a PITA when you're trying to do 10-12 lures at a time. I still use Etex on my foiled lures, but, I dip it twice in KBS for the final clear. Works great mixing glitter with it, too....gotta brush it, tho.
  12. OK, I'm only gonna say this once.....KBS Diamond Finish. Bassnbrad turned me onto it and it's the best I've used. I use it as a topcoat over Etex on my foiled lures. Clear as gin and rock hard. Dip 'em 'n' ship 'em with very few storage issues. http://www.kbs-coatings.com/diamondfinish-clearcoat.html
  13. With MCU involved, the only "safe" option as far as a primer would be something waterborne...an acrylic or latex product, IMO. When I was using Garco as a clear, the only paint I found that didn't cause friction with the MCU was water-based. Latex primers, however, tend to be not as good as far as adhesion as the others. Proper surface prep is a must. Good luck.
  14. I blame TU for everything bad that has happened in my life since discovering this site. If it weren't for my lure painting addiction, my wife would not be screaming at me constantly about "priorities". She just doesn't understand.
  15. I 2nd this. Jim is a good option for buyin' blanks.

Send it to me and I'll try it for ya. It was only 96 in the shade here today, but, just right for a free bait. I wish I could start out with "no idea" and have a bait turn out like that. What am I sayin'.....I never start with any idea.
  25. Thank goodness. I just squirt out equal (as close as possible) amounts into hospital med cups and then mix 'em together.
