  1. Spbubba, just got mine from Cedar Run Tackle, Andrew & wife are GREAT people to deal w/
  2. Dakota sells a great product, check out his You Tube videos on how he paints these baits and other of his blank patterns
  3. Thanks for your input gentlemen !!! I will buy the mold and see what will be entailed for a modification. I wonder why nobody continued the "sputterfuss" style ?
  4. I need somebody else's clear mind & eyes. I miss using my ol' Fred Arbogast Sputter Fuss style "buzz" baits, where the buzz blade is just in front of the lead body, I don't like them over the lead, nor do I like "r" bend wire forms. I have a wire former. WHAT I'm contemplating is buying the Do-It mold buzz keel bait mold Part Number 3457 And instead of using the suggested wire form, just using a straight piece in the mold, adding a metal bead bearing, buzz blade or prop blade, another metal bead bearing and then a closed eye. Will this work ? Am I missing something ?, I'm thinking the hook would still ride continuously up.....Right ? THANKS IN ADVANCE, Marty
  5. I'm contemplating this "airbrush thing" & I see these waterborne/ water clean-up airbrush paints http://www.createxcolors.com/ in my fishing lure parts catalogs (various vendors) & also http://www.csipaint.com/products/uv-fishing-lure-paint/uv-blast-clear-seal-coat.asp also water clean-up.................How do they stay on fishing lures ?
  6. http://fishingskirts.com/index.php?main_page=index this help ? they have the "bands" & the "tabs"
  7. EXACTLY SMALLJAW !!!!! the cup side of the spoon blank holds too much paint !, nope not doing production, guess I'll have to try the spray gun for powder, just heard you waste more. Lacquer is nice, but gets scratched up after a few fish, I heard that powder is a little more tougher. An old fishing friend of mine put it this way "why have a hundred different spoons, have a hundred of one kind that catches fish" THANKS GUYS !
  8. New to powder paint, have ovens & furnaces at my disposal, so anyhow I got the fluid bed plans from Cadman (THANK YOU AGAIN CADMAN), I know I probably thought to much into this, but I'm doing nickle plated trolling spoon blanks, I put them in a oven to "preheat" @ 350F, swished them in powder paint & got GOBS!!!!, I had to put them in a muffle furnace @ 900F(I think 825F did the job) to get the total mess off, I'm thinking the pre 350F heat was too hot (stuff "cures" @ 350F) there was no "shaking off" of anything !, so whats a good temp to pre-heat a lot of spoons ? I want to dip & run.....but not runs THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP !! ......HELP !
  9. THANK YOU !!, you ALL have been very helpful, I knew I came to the right place
  10. Thanks David, is there a particular company you use to buy your tin ?, preferably somebody that will sell me light weight to try this "experiment" ?
  11. Mark, Do-It Molds Banana head spinner-bait mold gives both the options your looking for,(if your not looking for a "minnow head spinner-bait) here is the link http://do-itmolds.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=1_9_45
  12. Question for the pros out there, I was reading somewhere(I think the on-line DO-IT mold catalog....or a company that sells DO-IT molds) about an idea that one could use lead molds & pour tin in them, the idea being the weight difference, for example a certain jig mold affords a 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 ounce jig using lead, but by pouring tin instead it would give 3 more lighter weights but still keep the sizes.......this sent me out on the internet in search of "what is made out of tin nowadays" (don't let the name fool you) & of course I learned a great deal about the tin mines & how they are running out of ore(?) & even they know what day they actually will be done mining....another search sent me to obscure metal companies that sell it for $20.00/pound & a minimum order of 25#'s !.....so I go to my local scrap yard & I get a look & a statement "we pay 10 cents a pound for tin & I'll sell you ALL you want"...(different tin?) I believe I read where "real" tin has a lower melting point than lead ?........needless to say this junk yard tin ain't melting w/ a torch none the less my Lee production pot, I've been told the only real tin out there anymore is the foil around wine bottle tops ? & "some" decorative "tins" (don't tell the wife but I stole some of hers.....they didn't melt either) & "bar solder" So my questions is 1.) where can one find tin to recycle, & 2.) have any of you tried this ?
  13. Thanks Ben, your absolutely correct in your statement of "the vast wealth of information and the willingness of everyone to share their knowledge" There's something here for everybody !.
  14. Hi, my name is Marty, I'm out of Horseheads, NY, 55YO, been doing something to lures since I was 12YO, I've bent wire for spinners, tied flies, painted plugs, poured lead ( I swear lead is going to be the next silver and gold )...., was just a "general" fisherman who always thought he could improve on something with the addition of a spinner, feather or a dab of paint ( @ 12YO ALL my Rapalas had painted gills & red dot A**'s ) 2 days ago I landed here looking for DIY plans on building your own fluid beds, met "cadman" & I haven't left yet, I have since then seen "Michelangelo" painters, learned about decals, learned about powder paint ( yes & fluid beds THANKS CADMAN ), powder spray guns & probably saved myself 5 years of making mistakes just by reading some GREAT forums.........Just wanted to say THANK YOU in advance for ALL the information I will glean from you all. My newest hobby is trolling for trout on the Finger Lakes of New York ( thats the BIG FAT part of New York, North of the city ) everybody here swears by Michigan Stinger spoons, but don't like how the paint jobs hold up after a few uses ENTER POWDER PAINT !!!! & the thirst of knowledge ................ Hmmmmmmmm decals & flutter spoons, squid skirts & spinner blades THANKS AGAIN !, Marty Brown
