  1. Well this would be considered an "S Waver" swim bait. I have solved the roll issue. The reason was weight placement. The 2 weights at the far front and back were to high inside the bait causing the ballast to fail above a slow speed. As far as the action goes.....the bait has a wide "s" pattern on retrieve. I can get a sexy tight darting walk the dog action twitching the rod on retrieve which I like but I think moving the joint back a bit will tighten up the "S" pattern a bit and add to the glide on pause. I will post a video in a day or so.
  2. Thanks for the input guys. To follow up on some resposes....this is actually the second glide I made. The first one I made was the same profile but the joint was further back probably the 2:1 ratio suggested. But the bait didnt swim at all. it just swam strait through the water. So I will probably try to move the joint a little further back but not as far back as before. I am anxious to test the joint spacing as sugggested. I closed up the joint thinking that would reduce the action or degree of the turn bit it does seem like it does get frozen in the turn until the force of the line pulls it back the opposite direction. The profile was supposed to be a gizzard but I made the nose less blount so the bait could resemble other profiles too but not its not that important to me. I would rather stick with the gizzard profile. So I guess Ill start making the easy adjustments on this bait to see what changes. Ill repost after some trial and error. Thanks again.
  3. Need some wisdom about glide bait design. This bait has 3 oz of weight distributed evenly across belly and is currently slow sinking. The action is a wide "s" on slow retrieve (wider than I want). The bait wants to 180 on the pause. The bait also rolls slightly at slow retrieve but wants to roll and plain out at medium to fast retrieve. The roll is also causing the bait to rise a bit. I thought I read some where that thin deep baits were not good for glide style swim baits. I also made the front section shorter than back section. Any suggesstions on.... A. How to obtain a more subdued "s" action on retreive and ultimately on glide. B. How to prevent the tendency of bait to roll and plain out. Thanks for any help!
  4. Thanks....yeah I was thinking about the syringe idea for delivery. I hope I can save these 2 swimbaits by drilling out the affected areas and filling with some quick setting stuff. Lesson learned!
  5. I did just read about the difference between _solvent bourne _water bourne _sloventless epoxies.... I assume because the epoxy I ordered was meant to be applied in thin coats to finish lures its more than likely solvent based. Damn!
  6. After 1 weeks worth of work on 2 pvc swimbaits I went to epoxy the eye screws in the bait with a 2 part finish coat epoxy I ordered from Lure Parts Online and this stuff is causing the pvc to get mushy around the pilot holes I drilled. The epoxy has a 4 hour mixed work time (which concerned me), but I wanted a thin flowing epoxy to squeeze into the drilled pilot holes. I have used 5 min epoxy on pvc with no problems. Does the slow cure epoxy have retarder chemicals (possibly acetone) that slow the curing and causing a adverse reaction with the pvc?
  7. I used 3 weed guard protectors that I had left over from making some jigs. I am a little concerned about the long term durability but it seems to be very functional and durable for now. Guess well see after a few strikes.
  8. I installed the lip yesterday (approx 30 degrees) and gave it a test run at a lake close by. It has a great swimming action and seems to dive to around 6-8 feet. The best part is that I can still slow roll it on the surface as a wake bait. I am going to get it painted soon. Now I just hope it holds up to a big stripe or spot.
  9. Good stuff fellas. Guess ill go test swim this one before I add a lip just to see the action. I hope the lip doesnt kill the swim action. I will work on a second bait for a slow sink prototype and thin the belly out like suggested. Thanks for the help! I will post again after test run.
  10. I was using the mobile mode I guess...so had to view the fullsite version to post pic
  11. I cant seem to figure out how to post a picture....
