  1. I have a mold that one of the aluminum handles broke off. JB Weld didn't work worth a darn for that poor mold.
  2. Just buy the skirt tabs and collars and go to work.
  3. Also clean your mold. You might have a very small amount of lead that's preventing it from closing. It will be hard to find. I use a plastic paint scraper to remove those little spots of lead and not scratch the mold.
  4. I've never painted that particular one but I do paint egg sinkers and worm weights for use a spinner bodies. I use toothpicks to hold the lead. That blocks one end and I rarely have the other end plug. If I do I use a piece of stiff wire to clean it out before I cure the body.
  5. http://www.fishboss.com/ Scroll down about half way. I was given a bunch of this paint. How do I apply it?
  6. With my bottom pour I had to keep it around 5-6 to get the lead to flow. It's pure lead. The 4-20 also needs to be about 5 or it will not pour. I picked up a casting thermometer and once I clean the bottom pour I'm going to do some testing. I can say that the inside of the smaller pot looks like it's falling apart.
  7. Used some of the new Rosey's paints to day and I'm impressed. The pearl white from Rosey's puts the Pro-Tec pearl white to shame. Lots more pearl and it covers slabs in one coat,
  8. Used the new 4-20 pot today and I'm impressed. It has a slight drip at times but I can work with that. I filled the new pot with the same lead I've been having problems with in the smaller Lee pot and it was fine. Fluxed once and I was done. The 4-20 has a much larger orifice so the pours on the bigger jig heads and slabs goes very quickly. The only drawback as I see it is that it's a bit harder to position molds under the 4-20. Again I can work with that as long as the pot works.
  9. That would solve one problem.
  10. I picked up a Lee 20 lb bottom pour pot today at Cabela's. Since I'm fishing tomorrow I won't get a chance to fire it up till at least Sunday. I'm hoping that it will work better than the smaller pot. Lyman has a larger bottom pour pot that has a suggested retail of $319.99, but it does have a couple of nice features. Digital control that shows the set temperature and the lead temperature. Beyond that it's the RCBS. Street price on the Lyman is $250. It would be nice if there was something between the sub $100 price point and the $250+ price point.
  11. Well at least we're not alone in the problems.
  12. It's pure lead that I've had for years. I purchased it from a commercial sinker maker that was going out of business. I'm getting the same problem as dlaery. If I melt the lead and let it sit the dross just keeps building up. I can flux it and clean it and a few minutes later there's a crust of dross sitting on top of the lead. Went to a commercial caster near by and picked up 10 lbs of his pure lead and the same thing happens. I've filled a 24 ounce container will slag and dross in just a couple of casting sessions.
  13. My new Lee Production Pot IV is driving me nuts. I'm using clean pure lead and the amount of dross that is being generated by the pot is amazing. The pour spout clogs continually. The pot is just a couple of months old and the problem is getting worse. I've tried storing the pot full of lead and empty. Doesn't seem to make a difference. When stored with lead in the pot the next time I use it the pour spout leaks lead and I end up having to force the unmelted lead at the top down into the pot. Is this the new normal with Lee pots or did I get a bad one?
  14. Heavy braid is normally used. Similar to the Gamakatsu 510 assist hooks.
  15. Rosey's is having a good sale right now.
  16. I have a feeling that plating your own blades will be the way to go.
  17. I've tried three different browsers, tried backing out. Tried restarting the computer. Can't seem to get it to work.
  18. Trying to order some more clear from Roseys and it says the shipping method is not available. Driving me slightly more nuts.
  19. It covers quite well. As stated some of it is a bit denser than the Protec so mix it with some clear.
  20. I'm guessing ya don't live in Texas. That kind of clothing would kill me ASAP.
  21. If ya don't get it too hot and have any ventilation at all it's not a problem.
  22. Rosey's, Columbia, Powder by the Pound, Eastwood Any number of places.
  23. Hmm, I'd like to get one reflective side on my slabs. Looks like I could use the method in that video to do it.
  24. DUH! I never thought of that. Ya learn something every day. I always held off on getting any spinnerbait or buzzbait molds because of the painting issues. Time to hit eBay and see what I can find for cheap.
